Top Ten Tuesday (77)- My Top Ten Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

August 9: Top Ten Tuesday REWIND-- go back and do a topic you missed over the years or recently or a topic you really want to revisit.

I chose a topic from April 2011, Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign. These are all books I've read, loved, and hated the covers or books that I've read that had an amazing original cover that the publisher decided to redesign and was an awful redesign.

I'll add book covers so click on the cover to be taken to their Goodreads links. Also if the cover is a redesign I'll post both the original cover and the bad redesign. You'll notice that all the redesigns I hate are Penguin or Simon & Schuster redesigns. I have no idea why they feel the need to redesign perfectly good book covers.

1. I just recently read this one and I really enjoyed the story! I can't stand this cover though.

2. Loved this story but man do I hate this cover something fierce!

3. Ok here's one that's gone through a cover change. There was nothing wrong with the first and it's by far my favorite.

4. Another Andrea Cremer book. Such a good book and such an ugly cover.

5.  Another redesign I hated. But I am obsessed with this series!

6. Another bad redesign. I loved this book too!

7. And one last Andrea Cremer one which had a horrid redesign. Book 2 was redesigned as well but I didn't like that original cover.

8. And I think these are the worst offenders when I comes to redesigns! I feel really bad for the author too! Talk about a bad knock off of the Throne of Glass Covers!

9. I love this series but this redesign really made me upset. The original covers were so pretty!

10. And last but not least! I lost count how many redesigns this series went through and I still think the original cover for book 1 was the best!

So what about you? What are some covers you wish you could redesign? And check back next week for my Top Ten Books With X Setting (top ten books set near the beach, top ten book set in boarding school, top ten books set in England, etc)!

Top Ten Tuesday (66)- Ten Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

May 24:  Ten Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed (less love, more love, complicated feelings, indifference, thought it was great in a genre until you became more well read in that genre etc.)

This is probably going to end up being mostly books I don't like but I'm hoping to add a few that I ended up liking more too. But that might be hard since books I don't like usually stay that way.

1. RED QUEEN by Victoria Aveyard. When I first read this one I really loved it but as time passed I realized it was just ok and I hated the sequel.

2. THE FORBIDDEN WISH by Jessica Khoury. While I rated this one 3 stars because I actually finished the book now I really wish that I hadn't. I really didn't like this book.

3. GLASS SWORD by Victoria Aveyard. I rated this higher when I finished it but after a week or so I realized how much I hated this one. I really wish I would have DNF'd this one too.

4. THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN by Sarah Fine. When I read this I loved it but as time has passed it's become just an ok book to me and I don't even know if I'll pick up the sequel.

5. The whole TWILIGHT SERIES. Ok don't hate on me for this let me explain. I will always be appreciative for this series for getting me back into reading and also getting me to read YA books. But honestly this series isn't that great. I loved it when I read it but, after reading so many other YA books that were awesome I now know that the writing was just mediocre.

6. ILLUMINAE by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. When I read this some things really pissed me off about it like all the uses of quotes or phrases from movies but the more distance I put between myself and the book I started to really love it! I gave this one 4 stars but am seriously considering upping it to a 5.

7. HALF BAD by Sally Green. I rated this a 3 but now that I think on it this book really sucked.

8. THE WINNERS CURSE by Marie Rutkoski. I DNF'd this book the first time I read it but a few friends kept pushing me to pick it back up. I ended up liking it at the time but now that I think about it I wish I never would have picked it back up. I am just not a fan of this authors writing style I DNF'd all of her other books that I tried.

9. SHADES OF EARTH by Beth Revis. It's been years since I've thought about this book! When I read it I rated it a 5 but now that I think on it, that book really pissed me off it wasn't a good finale. So yeah had to add this one.

10. TIGER LILY by Jodi Lynn Anderson. My god what was I thinking rating this 3 stars???? Man I freaking hate this book! I guess my hatred has grown over the years for it.

So what about you? What are some of your go to websites? And check back next week for my Ten Beach Reads and since I don't read contemporary lol I don't have any so this will be a tens list of my upcoming TBR books I would definitely read at the beach!

Jaime

Here's this week's topic.

September 29: Ten Books To Read If You Like This Super Popular Book/Author

This is a mix of high fantasy and sci-fi and sci-fi/fantasy all in one :)

2. Across the Universe series by Beth Revis
3. The Firebird Series by Claudia Gray
4. Nameless by Jennifer Jenkins
5. An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
6. The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
7. The Orphan Queen series by Jodi Meadows
8. The Zodiac series by Romina Russell
9. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
10. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Also 2 honorable mentions.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Top Ten Tuesday (14)- Ten Books I'd Love to Read With My Book Club/If I Had A Book Club

Hi and welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

January 27: Ten Books I'd Love to Read With My Book Club/If I Had A Book Club!

I don't have a book club but if I did I would add these to our reading list for sure!

1. The STUDY & GLASS Books by Maria V. Snyder. It's my favorite High Fantasy seirs of all time so of course I would add this!

2. The WICKED LOVELY Series by Melissa Marr. Marr's take on Fae is still my favorite to this day!

3. The VAMPIRE ACADEMY and BLOODLINES Books by Richelle Mead. Two words. Adrian Ivashkov. Everyone needs to fall in love with him!

4. THE HUNGER GAMES Series by Suzanne Colins. I may have hated the ending to the third book but this series always makes for some interesting conversation.

5. The WVMP Series by Jeri Smith-Ready. This series is one of my favorite adult PNR's and I love how she ties music into it!

6. PERSUASION by Jane Austen and FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS by Diana Peretfreund. I loved Austen's and Peterfreund's books! I would love to read Persuasion and then Darkness and compare the two!

7. The FIRE AND THORNS Series by Rae Carson. My second favorite high fantasy of all time!

8. The HIS FAIR ASSASSIN Series by Robin LaFevers. My friends and I still talk about this series. We absolutely love it!

9. The CAHIL WITCH CHRONICLES by Jessica Spotswood. I love this historical paranormal and it has a lot of good issues to talk about.

10. The ACROSS THE UNIVERSE Series by Beth Revis. Probably one of my favorite sci-fi's of all time even though the last book did piss me off a bit. This one would be another great one to discuss!

So this is my list. What about you? What books would you have your book club read?

And come back next week for Top Ten Books I Can't Believe I Haven't/Want To Read From X Genre! I'm not sure what I'll do but it should be fun!

Hugs,
Jaime

Top 10 Tuesday (1)- Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

So I've never done a Top 10 Tuesday before but I saw the topic and I was like... Oh I have to do this one! There are so many epically bad covers out there and it's time I share the ones that make me cringe the most! Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting Top 10 Tuesdays!

#1

White Cat by Holly Black actually the whole series. I adored the first cover and the books and then Simon & Schuster made this disco ball 70's theme with the series and all I want to do is vomit!

#2

Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I adored the very first cover! This series has had so many makeovers I actually got whiplash!

#3

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. Another series I love and I loved the original cover!

#4

Crewel by Gennifer Albin. I loved the original cover it was so vibrant and colorful!

#5

The Shade Series by Jeri Smith-Ready. Another series I adore and I loved the original covers. I think this was another fail from Simon & Schuster.

#6
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood. The original cover was so stunning! I'm still scratching my head as to why Penguin Teen changed this one.

#7

Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey. This book was an ok read but it did deserve a better cover. They tried with the paperback edition and it is a bit better. But still not great.

#8

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. I really, really loved the first cover and this was an epic fail in redesigns.

#9

Delirium by Lauren Oliver. Hated this revamp the original was soooooooo much better!

#10

The Hollow by Jessica Verday. I actually still have this one on my bookshelves and it reminds me of the Pretty Little Liars opening scene she looks like a doll. I also have the new paperback that was for once in my opinion the right redesign from Simon & Schuster.

So what do you think? Do these make you cringe as much as me? Let me know!

This was kinda fun I may have to do Top 10's more often!

Review- Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

Shades of Earth
Beth Revis
Release Date: January 15, 2013
Hardcover: 400 pages
Publisher: Razorbill (Penguin)
ISBN:  1595143998
Source: ARC from the publisher
Rating: Obsessed!!!!!!!!!!!
From Goodreads.

The final book in the New York Times bestselling trilogy, perfect for fans of Battlestar Gallactica and Prometheus!

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn't the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed's former passengers aren't alone on this planet. And if they're going to stay, they'll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been for nothing.

FUELED BY LIES.
RULED BY CHAOS.
ALMOST HOME.

OMG y’all this book was amazeballs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the best in the series in my opinion it’s another case of the author saving the best for last! Beth has wrapped up Amy and Elder’s story with such a beautiful but heart stopping end that I will definitely be reading this one over and over again!

We finally get to see the planet and its crazy dangerous and there will be deaths peeps… just be forewarned. Beth doesn't hold back on who she will kill. I cried more than once in this story. Also we get to meet so many new people; the frozen become unfrozen; and we get to meet Amy’s parents I loved her mom and hated her dad until about halfway through the book lol. And Beth introduces us to a new guy whom I didn't like at all even though he’s totally hot! I will not say more and leave it up to you to judge him. There’s not much more I can say about Shades without spoiling a lot of the story but believe me people you need to read this book go get it when it comes out!!!!!!

I chose a passage from the beginning of the book because I loved it and I didn't want to be too spoilery.

I spent three months trapped, the walls of the spaceship more cage than home. But at least I was alive. Who knows what the planet will hold, what new dangers we will face?

All I have now are questions, fear, and a big blue and green and white planet looking up at me.

We have to go. We have to face the world below. It will be better to die quickly with only the taste of freedom on our lips thank to live long lives pretending not to see the walls that imprison us.

I tell myself, it will be worth it. No matter what price is paid, it will be enough to escape Godspeed. I tell myself these things, and I try to believe them.

Lights blink up at me from the control panel. Elder and I sit directly in front of it, a huge metal lever set into the floor between us. The main Bridge—the big room designed to control the entire ship—had six chairs and dozens of control panels, but this smaller bridge has only two of each. I hope it’s enough. I hope we’re enough.

I reach up—toward the window with the shining planet beyond or toward the control panel, I don’t know which—and Elder grabs my shaking hand.

“We can do this,” he says, no doubt in his voice.

“We have to,” I say.

“Together?”

I nod.

Both of our fingers press the INITIATE LAUNCH button.

Dying to Read (8)- Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

Hey y’all thanks for stopping by to see my Dying to Read post and of course as always I have to give credit to the lovely Jill over at Breaking the Spine for the Waiting on Wednesday Meme!

This week the book I’m dying to read is Shades of Earth by Beth Revis! I am seriously dying to see how this story ends! I love Amy and Elder and I can’t spoil for peeps that haven’t read this story but let’s just say I can’t wait to see what happens!

Shades of Earth
Beth Revis
Release Date: January 15, 2013
Hardcover: 400 pages
Publisher: Razorbill (Penguin)
ISBN: 1595143998
The final book in the trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis!

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceshipGodspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience. But this new Earth isn't the paradise that Amy had been hoping for. Amy and Elder must race to uncover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. But as each new discovery brings more danger, Amy and Elder will have to look inward to the very fabric of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been meaningless.

So what do you think? Will you be adding this to your pile? What are you dying to read this week?
