Benjamin SOLOMAN

Eighteen-year-old Jon, obsessed with fantasy and the supernatural, dreams of her still.

Now she has returned. She says he’s no longer safe and that he needs to come with her; that the necklace she gifted him is no longer enough.
But who is she?
And who is he?

Joined by his best friend, Miles, Jon is led on a frightening tour of an Otherworld he knew nothing about; a missing Seer, the nefarious Otherworld hit men the Vipers, witches, Not-Mermen and the ugly toads that had once captured him.

And his companions have their own gifts.
They are Darovit; their scaled Dar their constant companions.

But she is not just his hero
And he was not just a boy
And the Otherworld
Is hunting him still

This new urban fantasy from the author of the Aquila novels brings myth and legend into the modern world.

My Top 5 Favourite Books

Yes I know its cliché and divides opinion but this was the first book that truly got me hooked on the genre I now love so much. I like epic fantasy but the YA urban stuff is where my interest really sits. The idea that the world we see around us is just a shade of the truth is fascinating and exciting to me.

I don't just love this series because it's an Indie Author, though her success is an inspiration. I also love the writing style; it's fun and airy even when it deals with terrible and strange situations. Anything can happen in Paragon, I recommend giving it a read.

It's a futuristic dystopian  fantasy, not completely in my comfort zone but Oh So Good. There's incredible world building and fighting oppression and segregation. It's got a Hunger Games vibe (didn't make this top five but still a good book) and there's quite a bit of Gorydamn violence.

The whole series is a national treasure. I've shared these books with my daughter and immersed ourselves in the world of Hogwarts; the magic, the spells, the creatures and characters. If only acceptance my letter had come.

Yes, all three books in the series are combined to be my favourite. No, that's not cheating. Something about the historical element in the urban fantasy/paranormal just makes these books my favourite ever. The story is good, the characters are perfect. I like the Shadowhunter world, nephilim and downworlders, but these three books are where Clare really shined.

Blog Tour- MIDNIGHT ON STRANGE STREET by @Kathsby With An Excerpt & #Giveaway! @DisneyBooks

I am thrilled to be hosting a stop on the MIDNIGHT ON STRANGE STREET  by K.E. Ormsbee Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours! Check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway!

About The Book
Title: MIDNIGHT ON STRANGE STREET
Author: K.E. Ormsbee
Pub. Date: January 21, 2020
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Pages: 400
Find it: GoodreadsAmazon, Kindle, B&NiBooks, KoboTBD

AVERY MILLER is looking for a fresh start, away from all the bomb sirens and talk of war in Los Angeles. She expects to find a haven in Callaway, Texas, where the cool new substance “glow” was first discovered. What she doesn’t count on is making friends with glowboard skaters Dani, Bastian, and Lola, aka the Sardines. . . .

DANI HIRSCH, captain of the Sardines, knows for a fact they’re the best glowboarding team in Texas—if only they could prove it. Nothing will distract Dani from leading the team to victory at this summer’s big race. Not even food explosions in the school cafeteria, or a mysterious midnight message, or secretive government workers in Callaway. . . .

BASTIAN GIL is sick of the bullies who tease him for being a Sardine, for being different. Sure, he and his twin sister, Lola, can share thoughts. That’s just twin telepathy, though—nothing too weird, right? But when Bastian finds he can do even stranger things, he starts to wonder if maybe he really is different from the other kids at school. . . .

LOLA GIL wants life to go back to normal, to a time before big glowboard races and government investigations. But the more the Sardines discover about themselves—like how they can share thoughts and move objects with their minds—the more Lola begins to fear there was never anything normal about her. . . .

When the Sardines receive an ominous, otherworldly message, they must decide if they’ll use their newfound powers to stop an impending disaster—one that could have more to do with the war, their bullies, and glowboarding than they can possibly imagine.

EXCERPT:

“Hey!” called Avery. “Slow down, okay?”

Dani didn’t slow down. She wrapped her legs around the branch, hoisting herself and, without pause, throwing her hands out to catch the next branch up.

One of her hands did not catch.

It slipped free, upsetting Dani’s balance and sending her hurtling downward.

What happened next happened very quickly. Lola raised her hands to her mouth. Bastian shouted at Dani’s descent. And Avery thought, No, she can’t hit the ground.

The way Dani had thrown out her arms, the way she had twisted her back—Avery couldn’t bear to watch the impact. Stubbornly she kept thinking it: Dani can’t hit the ground, she can’t, she can’t, she won’t.

That’s when something inside Avery began to burn. It was a sensation she’d first felt at her old school in LA. It was the heat between her stomach and her heart that burned every time she skated downhill on a curve. She felt the blue light’s energy, and suddenly she saw it, pulsing out of her. It washed around Avery, poured over the branches like water, rushed under Dani’s back and cradled her in its arms.

Then, in a snap, everything was fast and loud again.

Blog Tour- SCAVENGE THE STARS by @EachStarAWorld With An Excerpt & #Giveaway! @LetsTalkYA & @DisneyBooks

I am thrilled to be hosting a stop on the SCAVENGE THE STARS by Tara Sim Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours! Check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway!

About The Book:
Title: SCAVENGE THE STARS (Scavenge the Stars #1)
Author: Tara Sim
Pub. Date: January 7, 2020
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook
Pages: 336

When Amaya rescues a mysterious stranger from drowning, she fears her rash actions have earned her a longer sentence on the debtor ship where she’s been held captive for years. Instead, the man she saved offers her unimaginable riches and a new identity, setting Amaya on a perilous course through the coastal city-state of Moray, where old-world opulence and desperate gamblers collide.

Amaya wants one thing: revenge against the man who ruined her family and stole the life she once had. But the more entangled she becomes in this game of deception—and as her path intertwines with the son of the man she’s plotting to bring down—the more she uncovers about the truth of her past. And the more she realizes she must trust no one…

Packed with high-stakes adventure, romance, and dueling identities, this gender-swapped retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo is the first novel in an epic YA fantasy duology, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Sabaa Tahir, and Leigh Bardugo.

Excerpt:

Revenge. It was a simple word when spoken out loud, but it was so much bigger, like the hidden city under the atoll. It was a word of fire and blood, of a knife’s whisper and the priming of a pistol.

It was a word that consumed her, filled her entire being until she knew that she could no longer be Silverfish. Silverfish’s will was to survive, to simply make it to the next day, and hopefully the day after that. But that was no longer her will.

Now it was revenge.

Captain Zharo. Kamon Mercado. Moray.

They would all pay.

About Tara:

Tara Sim is the author of SCAVENGE THE STARS (Disney-Hyperion) and the TIMEKEEPER trilogy (Sky Pony Press) and writer of all things magic. She can often be found in the wilds of the Bay Area, California.
