Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha's past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

Now on to my review

Well I’ve got no words for the awesomeness that was Obsidio! But f*** this was amazing!!!

I won't be able to talk about what I want to without spoiling everything about Obsidio. It's funny when I first read Illuminae I liked it I just wasn't obsessed with it like so many others but, after I had put it down I started to appreciate the book for what it was, and that was an awesome sci-fi book. Then I read Gemina and I fell in love! I already liked Kady and Ezra but meeting Hanna and Nik (and Ella) solidified my love for this series! Normally I'm not one who likes it when a book series jumps POV's either but the way they incorporated Kady and Ezra and even AIDAN into book 2 was bloody brilliant! And that's what they did in Obsidio as well! We get to meet Asha (Kady's cousin) and Rhys who are completely new characters with their own personalities that you get to know but, your old faves are back as well and the way they all come together to destroy BeiTech is awesome, heart wrenching, and bittersweet. I'm not going to tell you all how this ends or even spoil any of the story just know that it rocks in the best possible way and get this when it comes out on March 13th! You're going to want to drop everything and read this one!

Go see Amie & Jay on Tour! These two are awesome and you won't regret meeting them!

It certainly filled the Battlestar Galactica-shaped hole in my heart.- --Victoria Aveyard, bestselling author of The Red Queen

Read the New York Times bestselling blockbuster that critics are calling -out-of-this-world awesome.- The first in an epic sci-fi series unlike anything else out there.

Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the worst thing she'd ever been through. That was before her planet was invaded. Now, with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating craft, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship could be the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their biggest threat; and nobody in charge will say what's really going on. As Kady plunges into a web of data hacking to get to the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: Ezra.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents--including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more--Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Brace yourself, because you're about to be immersed in a mindscape that you'll never want to leave.- --Marie Lu, author of the bestselling Legend series

Prepare yourselves for Illuminae.- --EW.com

You're not in for an ordinary novel experience. . . .- --Bustle.com

A truly interactive experience. . . . A fantastically fun ride.- --MTV.com

Now on to the interview!

Hey Amie and Jay! Welcome back to Two Chicks on Books! I love having you two come by to chat! We’ve done quite a few interviews together so this time I thought we’d do something a bit different! Some “Would You Rather” questions!

Would you rather have the ability to fly or teleport?

Teleport. We’re both fundamentally lazy.

Would you rather have the ability to read minds or to heal?

Heal. Who’d want to read most of the things people are thinking right now?

Would you rather change the past or be able to see into the future?

See into the future. We’d like to know if we have one.

Would you rather be able to visit 100 years in the past or 100 years in the future?

We’d rather visit the past. See aforementioned concerns about future.

Would you rather read one awesome book for the rest of your life or a hundred mediocre books?

If we read the hundred mediocre books, can we have a red pen so we can improve them?

Would you rather eat sweet or salty foods?

We divide them up. Amie takes sweet, Jay takes salty. (Cuz he’s salty. Ahahaha. Yes, Amie’s typing right now.)

Would you rather have a dragon or be a dragon?

ALWAYS BE A DRAGON.

Would you rather get up early or stay up late?

Stay up laaaaaaate. That’s when the words get written.

Would you rather always have the same song stuck in your head or always have
the same dream at night?

Is it a good dream? We’ll risk the dream.

Would you rather live in space or under the sea?

Everything is cooler in spaaaaaaaaaaace.

Would you rather live without a telephone or a television?

Are we allowed to live without telephones? That would be amazing.

Would you rather live in the city or the country?

We are city mice.

Would you rather be stuck in a house with someone you hate or be stuck in a house alone?

Home alone, please. (Jay doesn’t really like anyone, and Amie’s so polite that she’d be stuck talking to her hated housemate.)

Thanks for having us!

The highly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that critics are calling “out-of-this-world awesome.”

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They've totally got this. They hope.
Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

Praise for Illuminae:

A New York Times Bestseller
A PW Bestseller

Now on to the interview!

Hi Amie and Jay! First I want to say welcome back to Two Chicks on Books! GEMINA was absolutely fantastic! I think I liked it better than Illuminae and am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

Thank you so much for having us! We’re so excited to see Gemina getting ready to head out into the world, and there’s no higher compliment than readers liking book two even better!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about GEMINA and the characters? BTW I’m calling it Event Horizon meets Pandorum, and Alien with a bit of Die Hard and romance mixed in :)

Oh, that’s awesome! We’ve been called it Die Hard meets Alien, so you’re right there with us. Readers of Illuminae might remember that the Hypatia was broadcasting to Jump Station Heimdall, desperately hoping for help, or that the station would even be there when they arrived, seeing as how they weren’t replying. Gemina is the story of what was happening on Heimdall in the meantime.

We’ll meet Hanna Donnelly, the station commander’s daughter, who has a killer
wardrobe (and some killer moves as well literally) and Nik Malikov, whos a member of the stations local criminal element, and would really like to date Hanna. He’s been striking out on that one so far. And for everyone who wants to know if they’re going to see the characters from book one again absolutely, yes.

The ones who survived, anyway.

What about book 3? Is there a title yet?

There is a title, but it’s top secret! We’ve finished drafting it and we’re editing it right now. We’re really happy with how it wraps up everyone’s stories, and you’ll get to see some stuff that we’ve been planting in books one and two really come to the fore in book three!

Ok who’s idea was the Lanima? Because they freaked me the hell out (seriously I had creepy dreams!) and I don’t freak out easily!

We decided together that there were going to be super freaky creatures in this book, and Jay wrote  the original description for them. We don’t freak out easily either, but those things ugh.

Tell me about Nik’s tattoos did you research different gang tattoos or did you just make them up?

The tattoos are inspired loosely by the tattoos of the vory v zakone, the modern-day Russian Mafia. Jay researched vory tattoos to get an understanding of the patterns of the iconography (he has an unhealthy obsession with international criminal groups give him a drink and ask about the Hells Angels and youll be there for hours). But the House of Knives, which is the name of the syndicate Nik and Ella belong to, is inspired by several international criminal groups.  Members of the HoK get tattoos on their bodies to denote stretches they’ve served in prison, and the crimes for which they were incarcerated, which is a vory v zakone tradition. But they also have tattoos to denote their House affiliation, which is closer to the practices of the yakuza.

Nik has a particular tattooan angel across his throatwhich symbolizes a certain crime he’s committed for the cartel. But, we won’t say anything else about that one, because, spoilers. J

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

This probably sounds like cheating, but there really aren’t any least favourite scenes. If we’re not having fun writing something, it goes, or we rework it until we are having fun. After all, if we don’t love it, readers probably won’t either!
In terms of favourites gosh, thats really hard. Nik and Hanna are obvious choices, because we love them to bits. We also really enjoyed writing Niks cousin Ella, and a bunch of the badass mercenaries youll meet in this book. Theyre not all good guys, but theyre a lot of fun!

What is your favorite passage/scene in GEMINA? I know you both probably have different ones!

That’s like asking us to choose a favourite limb! There are so many we could pick. Without spoiling anyone, for today we’ll say the mirrored scenes.

OMG those scenes killed me!!!!!!!!

Please tell me you have the full lyrics for “I Wanna Lick Ya (Lollipop)? I am really dying to see them all together!

Yes, of course we do! You’ll even hear a snatch of it sung on the audiobook! We’ll share the whole thing one day when the time is right.

What can we expect for book 3? I’m hoping we’ll get to see the gang again?

Well, we can say that whoever survives Gemina, you’ll definitely see them in book three. As for what else you can expect well, lots of answers. And the most epic battle weve ever written. Which is saying something.

Thanks so much Amie and Jay for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read GEMINA and I can’t wait for book 3!

Thank you so much for having us!
