Dying To Read (167)- RISE OF FIRE by Sophie Jordan

Hey y’all thanks for stopping by to see my Dying to Read post and of course as always I have to give credit to the lovely Jill over at Breaking the Spine for the Waiting on Wednesday Meme!

I loved Sophie's Rapunzel-ish retelling and I can't wait for this sequel!

Title: RISE OF FIRE
Author: Sophie Jordan
Release Date: February 7, 2017
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 304
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Find it: Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
The richly suspenseful sequel to Sophie Jordan’s romantic fantasy Reign of Shadows.

Luna and Fowler have escaped the kingdom of Relhok, but they haven’t escaped the darkness. When a battle against the dark dwellers mortally injures Fowler, Luna is faced with a choice: put their fate in the hands of mysterious strangers or risk losing Fowler forever.

Desperate to keep the one bright part of her life alive, Luna accepts the help of soldiers from a nearby kingdom. Lagonia’s castle offers reprieve from the dangerous outside world—until the king discovers both Fowler's and Luna’s true ties to Relhok and their influence over the throne.

Now pawns in each kingdom’s political game, Luna and Fowler are more determined than ever to escape and build the life they’ve been dreaming of. But their own pasts have a tight hold on their hearts and their destinies. Luna must embrace the darkness and fire within her before she loses not only Fowler, but the power she was destined to inherit.
So what do you think? Will you be adding this to your pile? What are you dying to read this week?

Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok’s lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna’s survival depends on the world believing she is dead.

But that doesn’t stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized.

With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet.

With lush writing and a star–crossed romance, Reign of Shadows is Sophie Jordan at her best.

Now on to the interview!

Hi Sophie! First I want to say welcome back to Two Chicks on Books! I freaking LOVED REIGN OF SHADOWS and I know my readers will as well and am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about REIGN OF SHADOWS and the characters?

Sure! REIGN OF SHADOWS is an epic story told in the POVs of Luna (a lost princess) and Fowler (sexy badass archer). It's a dark and twisty fantasy full of adventure and romance (lots of smooch!), monsters, evil kings, bad guys. You name it, REIGN OF SHADOWS has it. :D

So book 2? Do we have a title yet? How about a cover?

Oh, wow... I haven't announced it yet, but it's not a secret. So ... sure, why not? I love the title for book 2! It's ......

RISE OF FIRE

As I was reading REIGN OF SHADOWS I felt like it was a loose retelling of Rapunzel was that the idea?

Well, there's a kernel of RAPUNZEL in the story ... mostly at the beginning. I love the whole notion of "girl-trapped-all-her-life-in-a-tower". I'm surprised at how many readers are identifying with the idea of it as retelling though. Mostly because I go so far off the rails from the Rapunzel fairy tale after the beginning. But, hm, maybe that's the idea of a retelling??? Taking a well-known fairy tale and driving it off the rails?

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

This book is "shared" between Luna and Fowler. I view it as their story, so I have to say they are each my favorite characters. I've never written a dual narrative in a young adult book and I loved it so much! As for my least favorite that award would have to go to the baddie - King Cullan.

What is your favorite passage/scene in REIGN OF SHADOWS?

Hm... there is a scene where Luna walks in on a naked Fowler. That was one of my favorite scenes!

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I researched moles, believe it or not. Since they're underground creatures like my "monsters", I researched their habits and how it is they survive/operate underground.

What are you reading right now?

Right now I'm reading THE HATING GAME by Sally Thorne and it's unbelievably good.

Who is your ultimate Book Boyfriend?

Hm. Off the top of my head? Jay from Kimberly Derting's THE BODY FINDER.

Top Ten Tuesday (40)- Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

September 8:  Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish

I'm normally pretty good at finishing series so I'm going to have to dig deep into my goodreads lists for these lol

1. THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS Series by Cassie Clare (I was done after 3 and will never finish this one)
2. The FIRELIGHT Series by Sophie Jordan. I wasn't a big enough fan of the first two to read the third.
3. The VAMPIRE DIARIES Series by L.J. Smith. I finished the ones that counted (the first 4) after that they went downhill and I refuse to read the ones written by a ghost writer.
4. The VAMPIRE KISSES Series by Ellen Schreiber. IDK why I never finished this one.
5. The LUX Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I got bored with this one plus I hated the new covers so refused to buy them.
6. THE GODDESS TEST Series by Aimee Carter. The series was good just not good enough for me to continue. I got through book 2.
7.THE MEDUSA GIRLS Series by Tera Lynn Childs. Same as #6
8. THE SEVEN REALMS Series by Cinda Williams Chima. I love high fantasy so I was really disappointed with this. I read book one and half of book 2 but this series totally bored me. I know there's some hardcore fans but I just don't get it.
9. THE STEAMPUNK CHRONICLES by Kady Cross. Another I don't know why I haven't finished I loved the books I read just never got around to finishing.
10. The MARA DYER Series by Michelle Hodkin. I loved the forst book but they took so long to release the ones that followed I decided to give up. Doubt I'll eve finish this one.

So what about you? What series haven't you finished? And come back next week for my Ten????? FREEBIE I'll have to think about this one!

Hugs,
Jaime

Jaime's Trip to The Smart Chicks Kick It Tour and The Northwest Book Festival

This weekend I got to fly up to Seattle, WA (Kirkland actually) for The Northwest Book Festival who hosted The Smart Chicks Kick it Tour. It was a beautiful cool overcast Washington weekend which was awesome because it has been pretty warm here in Nor-Cal. Mindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads, her friend Tiffany, and my mom who is a huge Jeri Smith-Ready fan flew up from Sacramento as well.

The festival is pretty small and it seemed to be mostly indie and self published authors but I did get to meet one of my favorite indie’s Cyndi Tefft who wrote the amazing book Between if you’d like to know more check out my review HERE. Cyndi signed my very own copy of Between, I sat in on a panel she was on, and we had an awesome time! Then my Saturday wound down so mom and I went to see Moneyball which was AWESOME I’m an Oakland A’s fan so I knew it would be but even if you’re not I suggest seeing that movie Brad Pitt was perfect as Billy Beane!!!

Sunday rolled around and the sun was shining it was a perfect day for the big event! We had breakfast at The Original Pancake House which if you’re ever in Kirkland and want some great grub eat there the food was fantastic! Then we headed over to the Teen Union Building where the Smart Chicks event was to be held; we met up with Kristina from kristina-worldofbooks who is a WA native and fellow blogger that I was really excited to meet! I also got to hang out with Tera Lynn Childs who wasn’t on the panels but drove over to visit. The Smart Chicks arrived shortly after us and my mom went kinda photo happy so most of the pics in the slide show are hers ;) The authors that attended this year were Melissa Marr, Melissa de la Cruz, Kelley Armstrong, Jeri Smith-Ready, Rachel Vincent, Rachel Caine, Richelle Mead, Sophie Jordan, Margaret Stohl, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Nina Kirkiri Hoffman, Sara Zarr, and Stephanie Kuehnert. There were so many of them they actually split up into two panels so we had about an hour and a half with each group to ask questions and hear funny stories. Then the signing started and I thought last year’s Smart Chicks event was crazy but this one topped it. I didn’t even get all my books signed I would have missed my plane but, Mindy and Kristina were more than happy to help out and get the rest of my books signed and will send them to me! Thanks ladies BIG HUGS!!!!! Oh one more thing before the slide show. Last year I went to the Smart Chicks event in Menlo Park, CA and this was before we had the blog. I can honestly say after that event one year ago was when I started to really want to start a blog and a big reason why I did so thank you Smart Chicks you have a loyal follower and friend here and I will always make your events!! Much love –Jaime

Ok and now the slide show I hope you enjoy!!!!!!

Mom took some video with her new camera so I thought I’d share one of those clips My #TeamKilt girls will like this clip since it's Jeri talking ;) ;)

Thanks for letting me share my weekend with you I’ll have more fun event stuff to post after October 9th when Patricia and I go to the Becca Fitzpatrizk and Michelle Hodkin signing and then in April when I (and hopefully Patricia) go to the Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention in Chicago!
