Blog Tour- Poison by Molly Cochran and a Giveaway

Today I have an author spotlight for the Poison Blog Tour! Make sure to check out the info and enter the giveaway!

POISON (Legacy, #2) By: Molly Cochran
Publisher: Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books
Release Date: December 4th, 2012

Arthurian legend mixes with modern-day witchcraft in this haunting sequel to Legacy, which Publishers Weekly said “should please the legions of paranormal fans looking for a sophisticated supernatural thriller.”

After the riveting—and romantic—events of Legacy, Katy has won Peter’s heart and is now claiming her place in the magical world. Though half the students at her boarding school come from witching lines, the use of magic is expressly forbidden at Ainsworth, so as to keep the witching world hidden from the blue-blooded preppies, aka Muffies, who also walk the halls.

But the Muffies have at least a notion of magic, because Katy catches them staging a made-up ritual—and to her astonishment, the girls collapse at Katy’s feet and fall into comas. When Katy is blamed, she becomes desperate to clear her name and finds herself battling all odds to harness her growing magical powers in order to save the Muffies and dispel the Darkness once more.

From Goodreads.

Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.

But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.

Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?

Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress—she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon.

This book was so cute y’all!!!! It wasn’t the epic, heart-wrenching, OMG my soul hurts High Fantasy that I normally love and am drawn to but, it was a fun quick read!

This book reminded me of a cross between Maria V Snyder’s Healer series and Rachel Hawkins Hex Hall series. It had the high fantasy aspects I love but it also had humor and snark. The MC Kyra had me laughing at some of her antics. Like crossing a river in a lacy slip with a pig on her head; yep that really happened and the scene is hilarious! And let’s talk about the pig... she’s a tracker like a kind of bloodhound and she was the cutest thing ever! She made me want to get a pig of my own lol. Oh and there’s a boy and he’s handsome, funny, smart, and a bit mysterious and I loved him! He totally reminded me of Archer from Hex Hall.

The story itself was kind of predictable but hey I had fun reading it and I think it’s a standalone; but if Ms. Zinn decided to delve back into this world I would definitely read it!

I chose a funny scene for you enjoy! J

For some reason, the ridiculous drinking song reminded Kyra of her dad. He would love Fred.

Kyra quashed the thought as quickly as it had sprung up on her. She couldn’t think of her family.

They sang it through together, complete with imaginary beer. The way he watched her sing made her feel as undressed as she’d been when they first met.

When they finished, Fred picked up the cooking pot. “I’m going to go give this a quick rinse.”

Kyra was warm all over. She pulled her bedroll out and snuggled down into it.

A few minutes later, a chuckle came from behind her. “Kitty, don’t be alarmed, but this part of the forest seems to be populated by a bush I’ve never seen before.”

“Hmmmm…?”

“It seems to be sprouting women’s underthings.”

Kyra sat bolt upright. “Leave those underthings alone.”

Fred sat beside her. “I wouldn’t dream of touching such an unusual plant. It’s probably poisonous.”

Jaime's Review of Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1)
R.L. LaFevers
Hardcover: 560 pages
Release Date: April 3, 2012
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children
ISBN: 054762834X

Rating: Loved

From Goodreads. Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf? Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others. Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

I rarely read historical fiction mostly because I haven’t found any that have blown my mind. But this book did!!! Not only was there a main character who was an assassin and a complete badass but there was a love interest that had me at hello (yes I know cheesy Jerry Maguire quote) even if he didn't have Ismae’s.

The court intrigue and the twists and turns gave me whiplash, but it was the good kind. I loved trying to figure out exactly who the bad guy was and who could be trusted and I fell in love with many of the characters not just Ismae and Duval. I think what I loved about this book the most was there was an ending. Yes I’m sure there will be more about Ismae and Duval in the upcoming books, but book 2 will be about another character Sybella who was a mystery wrapped in an enigma in book one and I can’t wait to find out more about her. And I have an idea who her love interest is but I won’t spoil anything all I will say is yay and I can’t wait for their story!!!!
I had a hard time just picking one passage from Grave Mercy but I think I found the perfect one J

“I fear it is what my convent expects,” I tell him.”They may train us in the arts of love, but in their minds our hearts belong firmly to Mortain.”

“I disagree with your convent,” he says. “Why give us hearts at all then?”

Slowly, as if afraid I will bolt, he reaches for my hand, which has somehow escaped from the covers. When he laces his fingers through mine, my heart does its now familiar panicked flight, bumping painfully against my ribs. My shoulder twitches as if to pull my hand back, but my heart overrules it.
His hand is warm, the skin firm. We sit together in silence. I do not know what is going through his head, but my own mind is unable to form a single thought. At least, not a coherent one. After a long while, he squeezes my hand, then leans down to kiss the back of it. His lips are warm and soft and I am filled with the memory of them on my mouth, my throat. Slowly, as if with great reluctance, he pulls away, and I shiver. “Perhaps,” he says. “When this is all over.”

“Perhaps, my lord.”

Ok so swoons!!!!!
