Heather Brewer's Big News!

We all know this lovely lady right??? If you don't check out my post here she's awesomesauce! Ok so why am I posting this you ask??? Well you all know how much I love High Fantasy and her book Soulbound happens to be one of my favorites! It was supposed to be a series and she had book 2 titled and it even had a cover see my WoW here. The only problem? That WoW was from almost a year ago and we kept waiting and waiting for book 2 to come out. Then we learned that the series had been cancelled and I was so sad and angry not to be able to finish this series and see it's resolution. So were a ton of other people then yesterday this happened....

And watched I did and there may have been a ton of squeeing and clapping and yelling!!! So without further ado I give you Auntie Heather's Big NEWS!!!!

Authors Are Rockstars- Heather Brewer is my Rockstar and check out her Giveaway!

I am so happy to be hosting Heather Brewer today she is the fantastic author of the Slayer Chronicles, the Vladimir Tod Chronicles and also the High Fantasy series the Legacy of Tril which is my personal favorite! Book 2 can't come fast enough!

Why is Heather a rockstar? Why not is the question! She always talks to her fans (they call her Auntie Heather), has awesome giveaways and makes the funniest Vlogs! She also puts up with my constant rambling/complaining about Trill and when book 2 is coming out.

Ok so I'm turning this over to Heather to talk about why she thinks authors are Rockstars!

Authors are rockstars.

I've heard that quite a bit in recent years, Minions. And I've come to really appreciate those rockstar moments. Nothing gets me through a day filled with cat boxes, dust bunnies, and deadlines like the memory of walking into a school gym full of screaming teenagers. Nothing can push away a low self-esteem day like the happy recalling of being asked to autograph a fan's book...or baby (which I'm super proud to admit totally happened). In fact, take away those stardom moments and an author's life can be pretty lonely. Mostly, we stay at home (preferably in jammie pants), and write. It's an existence full of solitude...not that solitude is a bad thing.

But being alone can sometimes mean that we authors get lonely, as any person would. And when we do, we reach out through various means (I loves me some Twitter) to touch someone else, to make a connection, to do something to dispel the loneliness that has befallen us. When I reach out, I largely reach out to my Minions. You guys get me. You understand who I am and what I'm about. And when I need a shoulder, you're always happy to lean over and offer me one. But today I want to talk about the other people that I can count on. Today I want to talk about my fellow YA authors.

You see, I was a lonely child growing up. Never mind that I had four siblings and too many cousins to count, all within about a fifty mile radius. I was lonely. And I was bullied. And I was convinced that I was entirely unlikeable.

Sometimes I am still convinced that I am unlikeable. But that's okay. Because during those moments of loneliness, of low self-esteem, I know that I can pull a book from my bookshelf and lose myself in another world, and that in that journey to another place, I will come to understand a special place in another author's mind. And through that, we will bond. I may never meet them. We may never speak in person or tweet back and forth, but I know that we share a connection. We share a story, and that brings me out of my lonely place and back to thinking that maybe I am not so unlikeable after all. And when I do that--when I read a book and feel a connection with its author--I realize that I am not just an author. I am a reader. I am a fan. And I am not alone.

When I go to events that I am not presenting at, and I see the author walk into the room, I grin. I'm so excited to meet them, so thrilled to know that I will soon have my book autographed by them. It's a magical moment, and I love that feeling. When I meet an author that I truly admire, it makes me feel less lonely in this big, wide world. It makes me feel less like a freak and more like an awesome person--a person who shares a secret with an author, with a rockstar.

Because, yeah, authors are rockstars. But not because of the screaming teens who await their arrival. Not because of the autographs and praise and movies on the big screen. Authors are rockstars because of how they make you feel when you're feeling so unlikeable.

At least, that's what they are to me.

This week the book I’m dying to read is Soulbroken by Heather Brewer! I am seriously dying to read this one! I loved the first book Soulbound and I seriously need to read the next one! There’s no pub date for sure with this book and I’m hoping the Dial/Penguin decides to publish it as it’s written and there’s a cover and a blurb! I’m sure you’re all sick of me saying OMG I loved this book but, I’ve been on an amazing book roll lately so sorry you’ll have to suffer  again ;) OMFG I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!

Y’all know I love a good fantasy story and this was another that had amazing writing, beautiful world building, loveable characters, and great plot twists! I think one of the things I loved the most was Heather created her own cuss words for the story and I believe that Fak will be a permanent fixture in my vocabulary from now on ;) so yes there’s a love triangle (I know peeps you’re probably saying “Ugh I’m sick of love triangles”) but this one is really different! As a matter of fact the MC Kaya doesn’t even know she’s in one lol. There’s two beautiful but different boys; Trayton who’s tall dark, handsome, caring, and just a great guy (only problem is he follows all the rules), and then there’s Darius the boy with a secret that has silver hair, a body that screams to be touched, a fast sword, and even faster temper. He’s basically a total Dek as Kaya says but, that doesn’t stop you from swooning and turning into a ball of goo in his presence. Yeah if you can’t tell I’m Team Darius I’ll go for the mysterious rule-breaker any day.

The world of Trill is super awesome! There’s beautiful lush rose gardens, a forest that seems to come alive, and a school that seems to be an entity all its own. There’s dragon-like monsters with blue scales and a bad guy that we hear about but don’t meet (I’m hoping in book 2) but don’t worry there’s enough WTF’ery and plot twists in the book that you won’t miss the bad dude. There’s blackmailing, lies, secrets, tons of action, and yes romance. Oh and the ending even though I figured it out I really did, I still didn’t see to coming! And yeah there’s a cliffhanger and the waiting is gonna suck but, it is a must read peeps!!!! Make sure you go buy it when it hits the bookstores!

Ok so choosing a passage for this one was really difficult I think I had half the book bookmarked lol. But because I love him Darius won so here’s a scene between Kaya and Darius!

Beyond the scent of the salve, I could smell something else. Something that reminded me of wild, wooded places. With surprise, I realized that the scent was coming from my host. Not a shock—Darius seemed to live for the outdoors. It was a pleasant smell, and reminded me of home, of walks in the forest and camping near the river. I sighed, relaxing back on the bed. Darius glanced up at me and I managed a small smile. My throat was raw when I said, “You remind me of home.”

His fingers slowed as they dipped into the pestle once again, his eyes still on mine. “In what way?”

Shrugging, I said, “You smell like the woods. Like wind and rain. It’s…nice.”

“Kaya…” His tone was something I barely comprehended. It was soft and wondering, unlike the man I knew Darius to be. He kept his eyes on his work, his tone even and focused. “If you feel the need to come talk to me, at least come during the day when it’s somewhat safer, okay?”

I couldn’t help but notice that he didn’t say that I shouldn’t come, only that I should be more careful about it. Did that mean he’d hoped I come see him eventually? And just what was that about, anyway? He hated me. Didn’t he?
