Interview with Tim Seeley:
1. What Winter holidays do you celebrate in December and January … and how do you celebrate them?
TIM: I do secular consumerist American Christmas. I'm not religious, but I like to give presents and drink spiked eggnog with my family..
2. What traditions are old family traditions?
We don't have too many besides opening gifts on Christmas Eve and eating Taco John's "Mexican" fast food on Black Friday. The important stuff.
3. What traditions are ones that YOU’VE started?
We've got my 4 year old daughter in "Elf on the Shelf." It is incredibly effective at getting her to behave for the entire month of December.
4. What sort of activities during the holidays are your favorites?
I'm a big family guy, so just being with the, and friends is good enough for me. We're pretty low frills people, but there's always a big meal from mom, and a movie night or two.
5. What activities do you like the least?
Shopping.
6. What are your favorite holiday memories from childhood?
My parents used to go all out on the Santa myth (lie?) going so far as to fake deer prints on the roof and shine red lights into our bedrooms. And my grandpa used to dress as Santa (with dark sunglasses) which always delighted my brothers and I.
7. What are your favorite holiday memories from adulthood?
My kid's first two Christmas were during Covid lockdowns, so her first real one last year was incredible.
8. What are your favorite holiday foods?
Not gonna lie, I'm way into turkey n' mashed potatoes.
9. What makes these Winter holidays so special for you?
I live in the Midwest. Always have. And the coziness of a warm fire when it's icy outside is really appealing to me.

1. How do your book’s characters celebrate the holidays?
a. Do they celebrate with family & friends? Yeah, even porn star scientists gotta hang with the fam.
b. What do they eat? I figure they splurge and then feel ashamed about the 5 pounds of fruitcake.
c. What do you think they’d like to do? I figure they'd treat the holidays as time off, and there's no sex or science from December 24-26th.
2. If your book’s characters visited during the holidays, how would you celebrate with them?
Stuff the stockings, if you know what I mean.
