Interview with Michael Moreci & Nathan Gooden:

What movies/television/books/video games inspired the next chapter of Owen and Axe in Barbaric Vol. 3: Hell to Pay.

For me , visually, the obvious answer is the Video Game, God of War. The story of that game had a lot of similarities to Owen's journey in Hell to Pay. The journey of a great warrior, that has fallen in battle. The video game is very brutal which is also the tone of Barbaric.

Can you talk about who (or what) inspired Owen, Axe, and the entire Barbaric Universe?

Conan the Barbarian was a huge inspiration for this Universe. I adored Conan growing up, so Mike and I wanted to do an homage, and what better way, then to gently make fun of it? The first and only rule I have for Barbaric, is to have fun. It should be nonstop laughs and thrills.

How is Hell to Pay different than the first two volumes?

Well, in this volume, the core group is separated. Owen, Axe, and Soren are in different worlds. They have become almost unstoppable together, but separated,  they are very vulnerable to their enemies. The Curse is now upon Soren's head as well. Axe, well he is Axe. Not much has changed for him, other then the length of his hangovers.

MIKE & NATE:  How was it working with Nicholas

Working with Nicholas, was just effortless. He completely understood the world and dove right in. His ideas just had Mike and I saying to  eachother, "Why DIDN'T WE THINK OF THAT?!". Hopefully this is the first of many that Nicholas will contribute.

List your favorite graphic novels from last year and why you like them.

The Last Ronin. I have always been a huge TMNT fan, and I really liked the path this story took.

It's Lonely At The Centre Of The earth. It's a great look at depression and the black holes it can create.

It's always great to get some new Saga as well.

List the graphic novels and/or prose books that you’re looking forward to next year.

I’m really looking forward to Stephen King's new book. In my opinion, he has been on fire lately. And I've heard rumors of a Cujo sequel.

NATE: Talk about your favorite (and least favorite) type of character to create/draw

My favorites are the strange and unique creatures Mike creates with the Barbaric world. There is always new lands with adventures and creatures. This story progresses quickly, so it's always fun to create rich backgrounds for new cities, tribes, and characters. No one would ever want to hear it, because I would bore them to sleep.; But I always have reasons for a certain design down to each detail. Example the reason some Barbarians wear a certain headband, and others wear face paint. My least favorite are ones that I know are going to get killed quickly. My brain creates this rich back story and then two panels later, they are dead and gone.

Does BARBARIC HELL TO PAY  have a playlist? If so, can you share?

Absolutely!!! Deftones, specifically, the album OHMS.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with readers/tour participants?

Thank You, and I really hope you enjoyed Barbaric, Hell To Pay.
