Blog Tour- FACSIMILE by Vicki Weavil An Interview and Giveaway!

Hey y'all! I have an interview from Vicki L. Weavil, author of the awesome sci-fi book FACSIMLE! Oh and stick around for the giveaway!

Haven't heard of FACSIMLE?Check it out!

Title: FACSIMLE
Author: Vicki L. Weavil
Pub. Date: March 8, 2016
Publisher: Month9Books
Pages: 300
Formats: Hardcover, Paperback, eBook
THEY ARE NOT ALONE.

For a ticket to Earth, seventeen-year-old Ann-Maria Solano is ready to jettison her birth planet, best friend, and the boy who loves her.

Her mission is easy: Escort Dace Keeling, a young naturalist, through the wilderness of the partially terraformed planet Eco.

Ann's determination to escape the limitations of her small, frontier colony never falters, until Dace’s expeditions uncover three secrets. One offers riches, one shatters Ann’s perceptions of herself, and one reveals that the humans stranded on Eco are not its only inhabitants.

FACSIMILE is the story of a girl who must choose between fulfilling the dream that’s always sustained her, or save the planet she’s never considered home.

Now on to the interview!

Hi Vicki! First I want to say welcome to back to Two Chicks on Books! FACSIMILE was absolutely fantastic and am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about FACSIMILE and the characters?

The main character in FACSIMILE is seventeen-year-old Anna-Maria “Ann” Solano, who was born and raised on the barren, isolated, planet Eco. Her Peruvian grandparents, who still live with her and her parents, were terraformers sent to transform Eco into a facsimile of Earth’s most beautiful locales.  Unfortunately, the corporation sponsoring the terraforming went bankrupt and stranded the colony. Now, with no spaceships – and little money to buy passage on transport ships – the settlers are stuck on Eco, scraping out a subsistence living using their science and engineering skills.

Ann’s greatest desire is to escape Eco and travel to Earth, where she believes she can fulfill her ambition for a more exciting life.  She is willing to abandon her boyfriend, the hot and charming Raid, and her best friend, the brilliant and sweet Emie, to achieve her goal. But when she is chosen to escort young naturalist Dace Keeling around Eco in exchange for a berth on his uncle’s spaceship, she finds that she doesn’t actually know as much as she thought about her birth planet, or herself.  The discovery of an unknown species makes her question her plans and compels her to fight for something bigger than herself.

What about book 2? Is there a title yet?

Yes, the title is DERIVATION.  I am in the process of writing it now, and it should release in 2017.  (By the way, a one word teaser for that book is: Atlantis).

If you had to evacuate earth on a spaceship right now what is the one thing that you MUST take with you?

My family and my cats!

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

No, not really, although the reason I chose Peru as the birthplace of Ann’s grandparents is because my sister-in-law is from Peru.  So, like Ann, my niece and nephew are half-Peruvian (and half Virginia mountain folk).

I will say that Ann’s grandmother, Paloma, has more than a touch of my maternal grandmother about her. Like Paloma, my grandmother was a strong, no nonsense woman with principles – tough but loving.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

I enjoyed writing all of the characters, but felt the most invested in Ann, since the book is told in first person from her point-of-view.  I also loved writing Ann’s interactions with her mother, her grandmother, and the two young men in her life, Raid and Dace.
I suppose Kameron Frye, another one of the young people on Eco, was my least favorite. Mainly because he is a jerk, LOL.

What is your favorite passage/scene in FACSIMILE?

It might be spoilery… Let’s just say it involves two characters, water creatures, and a strange sculpture.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I researched several things, including solar powered bikes (they do exist!), hydroponic gardening, caverns, and spaceflight.  I also did background research on the legend of Atlantis and the volcanic eruption on Santorini. This research will primarily show up in DERIVATION, but I needed to know where I was taking the story after FACSIMILE.

What are you working on right now?

I am finishing up revisions on SCEPTER OF FIRE, a companion book to my debut novel, CROWN OF ICE.  It is the second book in the Snow Queen Saga, which will ultimately be a trilogy. Like CROWN OF ICE, which is a retelling of “The Snow Queen,” SCEPTER OF FIRE is inspired by H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales. In this case it is a mash-up of the “Steadfast Tin Soldier” and “The Ugly Duckling.” SCEPTER will be published by Month9Books in the fall.

I am also writing DERIVATION, the sequel to FACSIMILE.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

To be honest, I think he is one of my creations – Mark Hallam from my (as yet unpublished) adult science fiction trilogy. Hopefully you will get to meet him someday!

What inspired you to write YA?

I liked the idea of writing about characters discovering the world (or the universe!) and their place in it. YA characters can grow and change so much and I love writing character arcs like that.

Title: NOBODY'S GODDESS
Author: Amy McNulty
Pub. Date: April 21, 2015
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.
Pages: 274
Formats: Paperback, eBook

In a village of masked men, magic compels each man to love only one woman and to follow the commands of his “goddess” without question. A woman may reject the only man who will love her if she pleases, but she will be alone forever. And a man must stay masked until his goddess returns his love—and if she can’t or won’t, he remains masked forever.

Seventeen-year-old Noll isn't in the mood to celebrate. Her childhood friends have paired off and her closest companion, Jurij, found his goddess in Noll’s own sister. Desperate to find a way to break this ancient spell, Noll instead discovers why no man has ever chosen her.

Thus begins a dangerous game between the choice of woman versus the magic of man. And the stakes are no less than freedom and happiness, life and death—and neither is willing to lose.

Praise for NOBODY’S GODDESS:
“There are many terrestrial qualities to this 16th-century village, such as mountains, meadows, forests, and lakes. But there are also hints of magic throughout . . . the story is fun and engaging, featuring a female protagonist who will resonate with young teens.”  —School Library Journal

"Wow. I appreciate this fantasy for what it is: detailed, unique, and just all round amazing. It's the kind of novel that keeps you guessing, and just when you think you've got the twist, something happens to throw you off course.."~ Melanie McFarlane author of the upcoming THERE ONCE WERE STARS & SUMMONER RISING.

WHAT READER’S ARE SAYING:

"It was something so unique and different that I found myself really enthralled with the story. To the point that I almost had to blink myself out of a daze when I finished. "~ Jamie, Blogger @ Queen of The Bookshelves

"I would definitely recommend Nobody's Goddess to anybody looking for a great fantasy book with a plot that's unlike anything I've read before. The characters and the world are all done incredibly well, and Amy's talent with making words jump right off the page to tell the story is just fantastic. "~Ashley, Blogger @ The AP Book Club

"This book is different from any fantasy book I've read before in its concept. It treads the path less traveled, and manages to make a great story that readers can enjoy and love."~Bri, Blogger @ Books And Ashes

Thyra Winther’s seventeen, the Snow Queen, and immortal, but if she can’t reassemble a shattered enchanted mirror by her eighteenth birthday she’s doomed to spend eternity as a wraith.

Armed with magic granted by a ruthless wizard, Thyra schemes to survive with her mind and body intact. Unencumbered by kindness, she kidnaps local boy Kai Thorsen, whose mathematical skills rival her own. Two logical minds, Thyra calculates, are better than one. With time rapidly melting away she needs all the help she can steal.

A cruel lie ensnares Kai in her plan, but three missing mirror shards and Kai’s childhood friend, Gerda, present more formidable obstacles. Thyra’s willing to do anything – venture into uncharted lands, outwit sorcerers, or battle enchanted beasts — to reconstruct the mirror, yet her most dangerous adversary lies within her breast. Touched by the warmth of a wolf pup’s devotion and the fire of a young man’s desire, the thawing of Thyra’s frozen heart could be her ultimate undoing.

CROWN OF ICE is a YA Fantasy that reinvents Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” from the perspective of a young woman who discovers that the greatest threat to her survival may be her own humanity.

Praise for CROWN OF ICE:
“A re-imagining of The Snow Queen, moving and well written.” Sandra Waugh, Author of The Guardians of Tarnec Series.

“I admire the depiction of a young woman staying true to herself and not letting the pressures of love or expectations effect her choice. Thyra becomes an example that would do any woman proud.” Michelle Hauck, Author of Grudging.

“Weavil conducts a careful balancing act between loyalty to the original story and exploring new frontiers; I think she succeeds in this task, and fans of fairytale re-tellings will enjoy this one.” The Australia Times

WHAT READER’S ARE SAYING:
"CROWN OF ICE offers so much more than just the tale of The Snow Queen with a change of perspective. A solid YA adventure with teenagers who learn so much about themselves, and each other. Even the expected happily ever after offers believable surprises that underscore the maturity and independence they each have gained.."~ Julia, Blogger @ All Things Urban Fantasy

“I was enchanted by this book from the opening paragraphs. The story is told from Thyra's point of view, making it very personal and conversational in tone. By using this method, the reader gets to know Thyra on a deeper level than normal.”~ Stephanie, Blogger @ A Dream Within A Dream

“CROWN OF ICE is such a fascinating fantasy, with love adventure and enjoyable characters. I recommend for all fans of fantasy!!” ~ Tonyalee, Blogger @ LilyBloomBooks

“This book was fantastic, and so different from anything that I have ever read. I loved every single page of this book, and I very much look forward to whatever comes next from this amazing author!.”~ Jaime, Blogger @ The Best Books Ever

I love this cover because it reflects the book so well. The image of a girl standing alone on a desolate world is a perfect depiction of my protagonist, Ann, as well as her "sand over stone" world, Eco. But it's also symbolic, because although Ann isn't really alone, she often feels isolated on her frontier planet. The addition of the image of the Earth is also appropriately symbolic. Ann can't actually see the Earth from Eco, but since her goal is to live on Earth it's always on her mind, so the inclusion of the Earth image is a wonderful metaphor for her hopes and dreams.

To Bear an Iron Key is the first in a new and exciting series from acclaimed author Jackie Morse Kessler.
Five years ago, the young witch Bromwyn refused a gift from the powerful fairy king. Tonight, on Midsummer, that decision comes back to haunt her. When her best friend Rusty picks the wrong pocket, he and Bromwyn are all that stand between their village and the rampaging fairies who have pushed through the World Door. If they cannot outwit the fairy king and queen before the World Door closes at sunrise, the friends will lose everything—their village, Bromwyn's magic, and Rusty's life.
From To Bear an Iron Key by Jackie Morse Kessler: "Bromwyn turned to face the burning fields. Reaching deep inside of herself, she closed her eyes and touched the core of her power, the place where her magic lived, where it connected her to all of Nature. She held onto that magic, let it fill her almost to the bursting point, and then she cast it out onto the fields. It blanketed the rows of spelt, and she felt as it rode the wind—Air—and then touched the grain—Earth—and then sizzled around the fire."

JMK

Jackie Morse Kessler grew up in Brooklyn, NY, with a cranky cat and overflowing shelves filled with dolls and books. Now she’s in Upstate NY with another cranky cat, a loving husband, two sons, and overflowing shelves filled with dragons and books (except when her sons steal her dragons). She has a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature, and yet she’s never read any Jane Austen (with or without zombies). She also has a master’s degree in media ecology. (The living study of technology and culture. Which is cool, but she still can’t figure out how to use Tweetdeck.)
Jackie spends a lot of time writing, reading, and getting distracted by bright and shiny new ideas. (She just came up with a new idea right now.) She has a weakness for chocolate and a tendency to let her cat take over her office chair.

The-Emissary-Cover

For hundreds of years, dark clouds covered the skies of Adamah, and an ageless king ruled. Those who emerged with one of six extraordinary Shay powers were forced into the king’s army, an unmatched force with inhuman Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Perception, Empathy, and Healing. With the army behind him, the king—a man who wields all six abilities—was invincible and unquestioned in his rule. To most, serving the king was an honor. But for others, it was a fate worse than death.
When seventeen-year-old Nolan Trividar witnesses the transformation of his brother from kind to cruel after entering the king’s army, he vows never to follow the same path. So when his own power—the Shay of Accuracy—comes upon him at the Tournament of Awakening, Nolan conceals his emergence instead of joining the king’s ranks. For years, he traitorously hides his power, pretending to be only a gifted scribe. But when Nolan comes face -to-face with a deserter, the man discovers his secret. To evade detection and a death sentence, Nolan escapes with the deserter and flees into a night filled with dark creatures who steal both powers and souls. He joins a resistance, a village hidden deep in the forest, filled with others who secretly wield a Shay. But his peace is short-lived when they discover that the dark clouds, undead creatures, their own decreasing powers, and even the king, are all connected.
