About the Book:

Title: SHINE!
Author: J.J. Grabenstein & Chris Grabenstein
Pub. Date: November 5, 2019
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook
Pages: 210

"Inspirational, commonsensical, and a whole lot of fun." --James Patterson

Everyone deserves to shine in this sparkling new book from the New York Times bestselling author of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library , Chris Grabenstein, and coauthor J.J. Grabenstein--just right for fans of Word of Mouse and The Fourteenth Goldfish.

"Who do you want to be?" asks Mr. Van Deusen. "And not when you grow up. Right here, right now."

Shine on! might be the catchphrase of twelve-year-old Piper's hero--astronaut, astronomer, and television host Nellie Dumont Frisse--but Piper knows the truth: some people are born to shine, and she's just not one of them. That fact has never been clearer than now, since her dad's new job has landed them both at Chumley Prep, a posh private school where everyone seems to be the best at something and where Piper definitely doesn't fit in.

Bursting with humor, heart, science, possibilities, and big questions, Shine! is a story about finding your place in the universe--a story about figuring out who you are and who you want to be.

Co-author J.J. Grabenstein reads the first chapter of SHINE!:

So today’s topic is Best Books I've Read in 2012 (Doesn't have to be released in 2012, just a book you've read in 2012). And I had a hell of a time narrowing it down to just 10 so there are a few honorable mentions added to this list. If you want to know anything about the books I chose just click on the title and it’ll take you to the Goodreads page!

And make sure to stop by my co-hosts sites Fiktshun, Confessions of a Bookaholic, A Life Bound By Books, and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads for their lists! Oh and make sure to sign up with the linky to share your lists! And don’t forget to enter the giveaway!Details are at the end of this post!

Best Books I've Read in 2012
1. Splintered by AG Howard. Yes it releases January  1st but I read it in 2012 and it was my favorite of the year hands down!!!!!

2. Grave Mercy by RL LaFevers. This was one fantastic historical fiction with a paranormal twist. I loved everything about this story! Assassins rock!

3. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. High Fantasy is one of my favorite genres and this makes my Top 10 all-time list!

4. The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson. Like my 3rd choice this series is on my all-time list! Rae is an amazing writer and Hector will definitely make my book boyfriends list!

5. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. This was the first book of 2102 that I made all of my friends read. I mean I made them drop whatever they were reading to start this one!

6. Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready. Such an amazing ending to one of my favorite series. Many tears were shed.

7. Cinder by Marissa Meyer. A cyborg Cinderella set in a futuristic world yes please! This book was awesome!!!!

8. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. One of my favorite dystopian stories hands down and I loved that it was told in dual POV’s!

9. Masque of The Red Death by Bethany Griffin. Based on an Edgar Allen Poe tale with an awesome main character and two equally sexy leading men whom I still can’t choose between!

10. Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris. Set in a city near and dear to my heart with some of the best sci-fi storytelling set in a real world environment. Plus Ben reminds me of Max from Roswell and the dimension travel reminds me of Sliders J

Honorable Mentions

Renegade by JA Souders. A dystopian tale set in a lush underwater world with one of the most evil villain’s I’ve had the pleasure of reading about!

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead. I love Richelle’s books and this one kicked my ass! The ending *gasps*

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I love Jennifer’s books and even though I just recently read Opal. Onyx was just a little bit more of a favorite.

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. Loved this one! Love all of Julie’s books!

For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund. A modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion that rocked my world! It was a sci-fi/dystopian that I adored!

From Goodreads.
No other love has burned so bright

Life can change in an instant, and no one understands that better than Aura. It’s been almost a year since her boyfriend tragically died. She’s finally letting go of Logan’s violet-hued ghost, but not her search to uncover the truth about her past. As the first in a generation that can see ghosts, Aura is convinced that she has a connection to the Shift. She’s trusted Zachary, ever patient and ever by her side, with all that she knows. But when the government threatens his life in an attempt to learn Aura’s secrets, she will stop at nothing to protect herself and the one she loves...even if that means betraying her own heart.

Just to let you know I might no, I definitely will ramble in this review. This book was the perfect ending to a brilliant trilogy and while my heart is full of joy and happiness with how it ended I’m still sad that it was the end. I could have read about Aura and my dear sweet Zachary for many more books! Yes I am team kilt and damned proud! I also loved Logan though too (yep Brooke I said it) though just as a friend.  Just so you all know Logan is in this book (in a way kinda) he’s very much there in spirit in people’s hearts and minds. Logan Keeley will always be in our hearts.

The way Jeri writes is like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket or listening to your favorite band; it’s like coming home. I can’t wait to see what new adventures she will take us on!

Ok back to Shine there’s so many things I want to say about this book but a lot of it will be spoilery so I will try and, probably not so eloquently put into words my feelings.  This book was awesomesauce, amazeballs, fantastic, brilliant, beautiful, and made me cry. I really wanted to see Aura and Zach get their happy ending but I knew there were going to be challenges and there were many like the cliffhanger that we got hit with in chapter one! It broke my heart to see what happened. Then on to Aura going to Ireland to be with him and discover the mysteries of the shift and the beautiful-ness (OMG it was sooooo perfect!!!!!)  that was the castle scene. Trust me peeps it’s worth the wait; I think I re-read that scene like five times before moving on lol. There is a surprise also that happens with a couple of the other characters in the book that I was so happy about it had me grinning so wide my cheeks hurt.

Speaking of other characters I just have to say I loved Martin Zach’s friend and of course Dylan he’s such a sweetheart!

Because I'm thinking about Dylan I’ve picked a couple passages and one he’s in so I’ll start with that one first.

“Jesus, Aura, with all the shit you’ve had to deal with, I’d be a dick if I got mad at you for wanting a hug.” He shifted his chin against my hair. “I used to think, maybe when Zachary left, I’d have a shot with you. But then in the cemetery, when I saw how destroyed you were about the plane crash, I decided no way I’d even think about it.”

“Why not?”

“Because if Zachary had died, I didn’t want to be what he was for you after Logan died. I couldn’t deal with the waiting. Zachary was like a freaking superhero. Captain Patience or something.”

And next a scene between Zachary and Aura. They’re video chatting.

“No pressure,” I said, “but you should know, I love your body, all of it. Skinny, fat, anywhere in between.”

His fingers twitched. “You don’t make anything easy, do you?”

“Nope.” I licked my lips.”I try to make everything hard.”

Zachary groaned and rolled on his back. “Now I absolutely can’t show you, because it would be pornographic.”

Every cell in my body wanted to urge him to show me everything, and let me do the same for him. But I sensed that what he truly needed was a place to feel safe.

“Maybe tomorrow,” I said.

“Aye.” He turned his head to face me, but stayed on his back. “You look beautiful.”

I glanced at my live shot in the corner. My features were as dim as his. “You can barely see me in the dark.”

“I don’t need to see you to know that you’re beautiful.”

One last thing Jeri mentions a band quite frequently in this book they’re called Frightened Rabbit a band from Glasgow who are brilliant and I just wanted to suggest you check out their site and download some tunes  ;) http://frightenedrabbit.com/

Oh and a couple more things check out Jeri’s site for the river scene from Zach’s POV and some of the many teasers from Shine!

Ok sorry I said I’d ramble right? Just know that you all need to read this book. Thank you Jeri for the ARC and also for being a friend. It means the world to me! Hugs :)
