Blog Tour- FULL FUSION by NJ Damschroder Favorite Scenes & A Giveaway!

Hey everyone! I am thrilled to be hosting a spot on the blog tour for FULL FUSION by NJ Damschroder!

I have NJ's favorite scenes to share with you today! And make sure to enter the giveaway below!

Haven't heard of FULL FUSION? Check it out!

Title: FULL FUSION (The Fusion Series Volume 1)
Author: NJ Damschroder
Pub. Date: June 4, 2014
Publisher: Dragonsoul YA
Pages: 322
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Find it: AmazonB&NiBooksTBDGoodreads
Eighteen-year-old Roxie Sebastian lives a charmed life, and she knows it. Too bad she can't feel it.

All her life, she's felt disconnected from the world around her. Everything changes just before graduation, when she's drawn to an eerie, brilliant light-which narrowly misses her as it blows up her friend Lincoln's car. Clearly someone's after Roxie, and finally Lincoln tells her the truth: He and Roxie are angels, beings from another dimension, and that light is her soul, separated from her human body in a traumatic birth.

Once a skeptical Roxie rules out the other possibilities-like Lincoln created this delusion to escape his abusive father-she accepts her gut-deep knowledge of the truth. But someone has been screwing with her light, using it to commit crimes, and their actions are about to cause irreparable damage to two worlds: the one she lives in, and the one she can't remember.

Aided by her best friend Jordan, her boyfriend Tucker, and Lincoln, Roxie tracks down the criminal and uncovers many more secrets not only of her past, but of the history of their race on Earth. And then Roxie faces a horrible dilemma-the only way she can stop them from ripping apart both worlds is to fuse with her light...which could be tainted by the evil with which it was used.

Now on to the playlist!

Top 5 favorite scenes and why.

1.        Any scene with the twins in it.
Roxie has two five-year-old twin sisters. They are savvy little minxes, knowing just how to play the right level of cuteness to wrap Roxie and her friends around their little fingers. And they’re a huge reason Roxie continues to fight when things get darkest.

2.      The scene when Lincoln tells Roxie that she’s half angel.
This is the big revelation that makes her life make sense and sends her on the big journey across all three books. Also, he’s in her room and not supposed to be, and her mother comes in and makes everything very tricky. I never had to hide a guy behind my door when I was in high school, but if I had, the scene would have been very much like the one in the book. Roxie’s mom is a lot like my mom was. She died before I wrote this book, but I like to think she wouldn’t mind the parallels.

3.      The Big Fight
Roxie is on this quest to find her soul with the help of her best friend Jordan, her boyfriend Tucker, and their friend Lincoln, who is also half angel. They’re the kinds of friends who will, you know, duck out on the senior trip to help you save the world. But they’re also human, and the fight comes as a huge surprise, leaving Roxie alone and feeling ripped apart even more than she had been when her soul was taken. How can this be one of my favorite scenes? Because I know the reconciliation is coming!

4.     Saving the World
Roxie battles through the whole book with the decision whether or not to fuse with her soul once she gets it back. The light is like a concentrated power source, and someone has been using it to do bad things. She’s afraid that it’s tainted, and fusing with it will change her in bad ways. But it’s a missing part of her, so of course she wants to be whole. In the end, she doesn’t have time to agonize over the decision, and love is the only driving force in what happens.

5.     Saving Lincoln
After Roxie saves the world (spoiler alert! [except not really, I only write happy endings!]), her challenges aren’t over. Lincoln is in mortal danger, and Roxie needs him. She can’t face her new reality without someone’s help. I really love how she faces the challenge of her new powers seconds after receiving them.

Author Katie M. John

When you discover your love is as old as time, and cursed for eternity there’s only one thing you can do fight for redemption.

With paranormal elements running amok in Heargton village and the villagers so paranoid they’re even reporting sightings of an angel, the arrival of the young and enigmatic priest, Father Nathanial Abaddon, can’t come at a better time.

But whereas the villagers fall for Father Abaddon’s charm, good looks and confidence, Jeremiah Chase has other feelings about their unwelcome house guest, especially when his sister, Lucia, falls completely under the priest’s charms.

With family histories unravelling in both the Chase and Meadowsweet households, Fox and Jeremiah find their bond both an increasing comfort and distress as it pushes them together and pulls them apart. And, after a disastrous occurrence at Will’s eighteenth birthday party, Fox is forced to make a choice between one heartbreak and another.

When a local college girl is discovered ritually murdered and covered in strange symbols, old suspicions rise, ancient fears manifest, and centuries-spanning blood feuds reignite between the old households of the village.

With their ancestral reputation of magic and witchcraft, eyes turn to the three beautiful Meadowsweet sisters. Including the eyes of Jeremiah Chase, who finds himself inexplicably drawn the quirky wild beauty of the middle sister, Fox.

But as Jeremiah learns the history of her bloodline, he also unearths the dark and tangled story of his own family, giving him knowledge of a terrible and diabolical legacy.

Savage demons, desiccated corpses, life sucking zombie trees, and a land of death and rot await Audrey and her friends as they battle through the fiery realm.

No one’s afterlife is as dispiriting as Audrey’s―at least that’s what she believes after waking up dead without her memories and being promptly assigned to hunt demons for the rest of eternity. She’s convinced God’s made a cosmic mistake; after all, she’d rather discuss the color of her nails than break them on angelic weapons.

It doesn’t help that her trainer, Logan, is as infuriating as he is attractive. And just when Audrey and Logan appear close to developing an amicable relationship, a decision made under duress pushes their hearts in a direction neither of them saw coming.

Despite her sub-par fighting abilities, an ancient weapon of unparalleled power chooses Audrey as its wielder, attracting the cautious gazes of her fellow hunters and the attention of Satan himself. With Satan’s eyes now fixed on Audrey, a battle for the safety of the living looms in the shadows.

Her quirky new mentor guides her on the path to becoming the demon hunter she always hoped. She has great friends and even a kinda-sorta-maybe new boyfriend. But if things are so wonderful, why is Logan never far from her thoughts?

After learning that her family is the target of an unprecedented demonic siege Audrey puts all she’s gained in jeopardy by defying heavenly authorities and returning to Earth. Stranded at the place she once called home with the one person she's been desperate to forget, she'll face vicious monsters, betrayers, and a legion of demons with an insidious weapon that even her celestial sword can't defeat.

Will Audrey’s mistakes in the afterlife be what destroys the lives of the ones she loves the most?

Exclusive Excerpt

We sat on his bed, tucked up against the headboard, Logan sitting with one knee bent and an outstretched leg, and me curled into a ball against his chest, practically cuddled on his lap.

When my tears were spent, I let out a shaky breath of air.

“Audrey, I can’t—” Logan’s voice caught on something. His head rested on top of mine. When he continued, his voice dropped an octave, thickened with emotion. “I can’t imagine what you went through down there. I’m so very sorry. I should never have bonded with you.”

I savored the warm thud of his heartbeat on my cheek for several seconds before what he’d said sunk in. The leakage from my eyes along with a bad case of the feels must have dulled my reactions.
I jerked to a sitting position to stare at him in disbelief—and anger. My face was crusted with the salt of dried tears. There was no doubt I was a hot mess and a half. But that was nothing compared to the mess he’d just spewed.

He reached for me again, but I put a hand up to ward off his movements and curled my upper lip.

Where to even start?

“What I went through? Are you insane?” His gaze jumped around my face as if he couldn’t decide on a safe place to land. “Logan, I actually felt an echo of what you went through. I even experienced some of it in a dream or a weird out of body experience where I was you. What I went through was
nothing.”

He opened his mouth to speak, but I slashed a hand through the air to stop him. “Nothing compared to what had been done to you. You were torn to shreds. Literally, in some spots.”

His face paled. I shouldn’t have gone there and instantly regretted bringing it up—but I couldn’t handle his concern for me when he had been tortured. We’d get to the “should never have bonded with you” comment next.

“You experienced some of . . . of what I went through?” he asked.

Shoot, I gave him another reason to beat himself up. Rookie mistake. “Never mind about that. And what’s this business about regretting bonding with me? Frankly, that’s kind of—hey!”

He grabbed my upper arms and held me still as I tried to push away even farther. His blue eyes flashed, and his face was hard as stone. “If bonding with you caused you to feel even a second of what I endured in that place, then yes, it’s something I deeply regret and would do anything to take back.”

Buried under the caveman response was something sweet, but I wasn’t feeling it.

“Argh. You . . .” I pointed a finger at his face. “You just . . .”

As I sputtered to find the right words, the corners of Logan’s lips just barely tipped up. I stopped talking when I spotted his involuntary reaction. Of course I’d find a guy who thought it was cute when I got mad. Actually, that was probably pretty lucky considering I did tend to have a short fuse.
I pressed my lips together and narrowed my eyelids before performing another visual sweep of his body.

Yep, he looked to be relatively healthy.

I launched myself at him and grabbed the sides of his face, and then I planted my lips right over his.
Just like the first time I’d surprised him with a kiss, he was momentarily stunned.

I gently but firmly bit down on his full bottom lip in a silent demand for him to get with the program. Then I pulled back a fraction, just far enough that my lips grazed his when I spoke.

“Less talking, more kissing,” I ordered.

I’d gone to Hell and back for this guy. I wanted to collect my reward . . . with interest.

About Julie:

Julie Hall is an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author of young adult fantasy fiction.

Before writing her first novel Julie worked as a film publicist and rubbed elbows with the rich and famous . . . as in she would gently nudge them to let them know their meal had arrived during press interviews.

She now spends most of her "office hours" with her two furry writing buddies, Bear and Coco. Her daughter thinks that mommy's superpower is “sleeping all day,” but that’s because she’s often awake until the wee hours of the morning weaving tales of adventure in worlds of her own creation. When asked in an interview what she wanted to be when she grew up, she’s quoted to have answered, “to never have to grow up.”

She currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her four favorite people--her husband, daughter, and two fur babies (because dogs are people too).

Sixteen-year old Anna Arden was once just the magically barren girl from an elite Luminate family. Now she has broken the Bindingand Praetheria, the creatures held captive by the spell, wreak havoc across Europe. Lower-class citizens have access to magic for the first time, while other Luminates lose theirs forever. Austria and Hungary are at odds once more.

Anna Arden did not know breaking the Binding would break the world.

Anna thought the Praetheria were on her side, content and grateful to be free from the Binding. She thought her cousin Matyas's blood sacrifice to the disarm the spell would bring peace, equality, justice. She thought her future looked like a society that would let her love a Romani boy, Gabor.

But with the Monarchy breathing down her neck and the Praetheria intimidating her at every turn, it seems the conspiracies have only just begun.

As threat of war sweeps the region, Anna quickly discovers she can't solve everything on her own. Now there's only one other person who might be able to save the country before war breaks out. The one person Anna was sure she'd never see again. A bandit. A fellow outlaw. A man known as the King of Crows. Matyas.

Now on to the playlist!

Book Playlist

Some notes on the playlist:

Like most of my book playlists, this one is eclectic: some of the songs convey a mood or theme, others help me establish the setting or characters.

To start with, “I of the Storm,” by Of Monsters and Men is Anna’s theme song, as she grapples with her shadows and demons in the aftermath of BLOOD ROSE REBELLION.
Coldplay’s “Spies” echoes in fun ways the conspiracies that run through the book (and the book’s title!)

Ruelle’s “Monsters” speaks to a recurring theme in LOST CROW CONSPIRACY: what is a monster? And how do we confront what is monstrous in ourselves?

The fourth song, Johann Strauss’s Zeitgeister is a waltz published just prior to the period of the novel and would have been a likely choice at any of the balls Anna attends in Vienna.

Goran Bregovićs haunting “Ederlezi” is a popular Romani folksong from the Balkan region. It’s not a song that Gábor or his contemporaries would have known, as it was written during World War II, but it has roots in the haunting Romani folksongs Gábor would have been familiar with. The title “Ederlezi” references a Romani celebration of St. George’s daythough in this case, the title carries dual weight, as St. Georges day (May 6th) was also the day a train carried cars of Romani prisoners from Sarajevo to German concentration camps.

Faure’s “Pavanne,” with its otherworldly melodies speaks to both the human and praetherian magic in the story.

The next couple of songs are for my second point of view: one of Anna’s cousins and one of my favorite voices to write. Scott Stapp’s “Dying to Live” will make sense in context of the story (I don’t want to spoil anything) and Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.”

Passenger’s “Blooddstains” echoes the bittersweet arc of the romance in LOST CROWplus, the album is called Flight of the Crow, so how could I pass that up?

Both Hozier’s “Arsonist’s Lullaby” and Of Monsters and Men’s “Wolves Without
Teeth” are for some of my praetheria, both dangerous and beautiful: Zhivka and Vasilisa.

The final two songsTwenty-one Pilot’s “Truce” and 2WEI’s “Survivor” capture the feeling at the end of this middle book in my trilogy: fighting to survive against daunting odds.

I had fun putting this togetherhopefully readers enjoy it too!
