I am so excited to be hosting a spot on the HUNTER blog tour! I have a deleted scene from Mercedes to share with you today! And make sure to enter the giveaway to win a hardcover of the book!

Haven't heard of HUNTER? Check it out!

Title: HUNTER
Author: Mercedes Lackey
Pub. Date: September 1, 2015
Publisher:  Disney-Hyperion
Pages: 384
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook
Centuries ago, the barriers between our world and the Otherworld were slashed open allowing hideous fantastical monsters to wreak havoc; destroying entire cities in their wake. Now, people must live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the evil creatures constantly trying to break in. Only the corps of teen Hunters with lightning reflexes and magical abilities can protect the populace from the daily attacks.

Joyeaux Charmand is a mountain girl from a close knit village who comes to the big city to join the Hunters. Joy thinks she is only there to perform her civic duty and protect the capitol Cits, or civilians, but as cameras follow her every move, she soon learns that the more successful she is in her hunts, the more famous she becomes.

With millions of fans watching her on reality TV, Joy begins to realize that Apex is not all it seems. She is forced to question everything she grew up believing about the legendary Hunters and the very world she lives in. Soon she finds that her fame may be part of a deep conspiracy that threatens to upend the protective structure built to keep dark magic out. The monsters are getting in and it is up to Joy to find out why.

Deleted Scene: Joy learns how to waltz

We ended up in a small, white room.  “Strauss,” Fabian said, in a deep baritone, and the white walls turned into—well they said it was a ballroom, and it certainly looked like the couple of pictures I vaguely remembered from history lessons.  Or at least, I thought it did.
Fabian arranged me to his satisfaction—right hands clasped, his left at my waist, my left on his shoulder.  “Music,” he said, and a slow three-quarters tune began playing.
Well it was sort of the waltz that people—mostly older folk—did at the dances back home.  But somehow it was more graceful.  At least it was more graceful when Fabian was doing it.  And it took me a bit to get the hang of—
“Hunter,” Fabian chided me more than once.  “I am the man.  I lead, you follow.  You will be dancing with Josh and Straussing is formal.  That means you have to be a girly girl.”
And I would flush with chagrin and we would start again.
It turned out there was more than one kind of waltz.  There was the slow one that I was used to.  There was a fast kind that nearly had a big fellow like Fabian swinging me off my feet, we were moving so quickly.  There was one that had little skipping steps in it.  And then, once I finally started getting the hang of it, there were fancy moves like twirls and reverses and a sort of double-spin where we’d join crossed hands and pivot around a common point, and even a sort of place where he did pick me right off my feet and into the air.
But it wasn’t just steps I was getting from him.  Once I started being able to follow him, he started talking to me.
“The rest of the people there will all be Cits,” he said, as I listened and worked to keep my feet from tangling.  “They’ll ask you about Hunting, or about yourself.  They may ask you things that seem highly personal; you can answer or not, as you choose, but do so politely.  Keep things light.  Remember, above all, don’t say anything that might make them anxious.”
“Talk about my Hounds?” I suggested faintly.  He nodded with approval.
“No one has ever seen Hounds like yours before.  That’s a good, neutral topic.”
          I nodded.
“Many of them will be high-stat, and once word gets out where you’re going tonight, there will be rankers there too.  Actors, very likely.  Possibly musicians.  Probably one of the Faces—those are people who are famous for being famous.  The cams won’t all be on you.”
“Oh thank glory!” I said in relief, and that teased the tiniest of smiles out of him.
“I was going to caution you not to do anything to try and get the attention back, but obviously….”  He picked me up and swung me around, and this time I landed perfectly on the correct foot.  “They’ll want to dance with you, and you’re supposed to let them.  If you sense the conversation weighing too heavily on Hunting, ask them about themselves.  What they do, how they do it, what’s life like in Apex—“  He smiled again, when I nodded eagerly.  “—won’t hurt in this instance to be a little bit of a starry-eyed turnip very grateful to be here.”
That wouldn’t be hard.  Only last night, hadn’t I been wishing I could see one of those parties for myself?

Review- The Archived by Victoria Schwab

The Archived
Victoria Schwab
Release Date: January 22, 2013
Hardcover: 336 pages
Publisher: Hyperion Books
ISBN:  1423157311
Source: ARC from the publisher
Rating: Loved!!!!!!!!!

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous-it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da's death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hard-won redemption.

OMG, OMG I freaking loved this book! I loved everything about it! Victoria’s writing style just sucks you in; she’s such a beautiful writer!

This isn’t your typical romance although there are definitely good kissing scenes. I loved the idea of the Archive where people’s Histories were saved on shelves like books in a library and I loved reading about the keepers and how they kept these Histories from escaping the Archive and the Narrows. I loved the mysteries that Victoria gave us to unlock just like a key in the doors of the Narrows. And I love three boys in this book! Each for very different reasons. I loved Wesley the most tough (name always reminds me of the Princess Bride lol) with his black spiky hair and guyliner. He was let’s just say… smoking hawt! And I loved Roland one of the librarians with his red Chuck Taylors and his love for rule breaking. I also loved Owen. Just going to leave that one as is you all will have to figure Owen out on your own.

I think one of the things I loved the most about this story was Mac’s flashbacks. The scenes with her Da (grandpa) he totally reminded me of my own grandfather even the smoking part. J

So I chose one of the scenes between Mac and Wesley because I just loved the two of them together.

Wesley’s face is utterly unreadable as my hands loosen and slide away from his throat. He brings up his fingers to his neck but never takes his eyes from mine. We are, both of us, coiled.

And then he smiles.

“I thought you hated touching.”

I groan and shove him, slumping back into my corner of the bench.

“I’m sorry,” I say. The words seem to echo through the garden.

“One things for certain,” he says. “You keep me on my toes.”

“I shouldn't have---“

“It wasn't my place to judge,” he says. “Your grandfather obviously did something right.”

Go get this book when it comes out!!!!!!!

Jaime's Review of The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab

The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.

If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.

And there are no strangers in the town of Near.
These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.
But when an actual stranger—a boy who seems to fade like smoke—appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.
The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him.
As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know—about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.
Part fairy tale, part love story, Victoria Schwab’s debut novel is entirely original yet achingly familiar: a song you heard long ago, a whisper carried by the wind, and a dream you won’t soon forget. Excerpt from Goodreads.

Jaime’s review…
To start I’m going to say wow this book was one of the most imaginative original stories I have read in a long time! Victoria’s words flow like a song through the entire book and there’s never a dull moment.
I rarely find a story where I have absolutely nothing to compare it to all I can say about this one was it reminded me of a ghost story told around a campfire to scare the children to stay in their tents.
I immediately found myself attached to Lexi’s character and also the stranger’s. I felt the up and down emotions of love and loss, smelled the moss on the moor, felt the wind in my hair, and shared their fear. I also really like some of the secondary characters the sisters Magda and Dreska reminded me of my own two grandmothers minus the magic. The Near Witch is scary as all get out and let me tell you I don’t scare very easy but I felt goose bumps the first time I actually met her.
I wanted to post one of my favorite parts to show how Victoria’s words float off the page.
“The music continues, clearer than ever, and it’s hard to listen with only the edges of my ears, because I never noticed how beautiful it is. It’s still on the wind, made by the wind itself, but its wafting toward us like the scent of my mother’s bread, oddly filling.”
I absolutely loved this book! It made me cry and almost jump out of my seat I could not put it down.  So if you’re looking for something new and exciting to read go buy The Near Witch when it comes out in August I highly recommend it.!
Thank you Disney-Hyperion for a galley from Netgalley and thank you Victoria Schwab for sending Hallie Patterson at Disney my information for an ARC you all are amazing!
