Top Ten Tuesday (3)- Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit

Hi and welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post! Looks like I'll be sticking with this one for a while since I enjoyed last week's post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

October 28: Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit OR Top Ten Characters Who I Would Totally Want To Be For Halloween

I chose movies!

1. It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. A classic and even now that I'm an adult I still love it.

2. Hocus Pocus. Love Bette and SJP as witches! This one is super fun!

3.The Nightmare Before Christmas. It may be a Christmas themed movie but I think it's perfect for Halloween.

4. Practical Magic. This is one of my all time favorite movies so I watch it whenever lol but I definitely make sure to watch it during the Halloween season.

5. The Monster Squad. This one is from 1987 so yeah it's old but if you haven't watch it do so. It's got all the monsters and some really classic lines :)

6. The Crow. Another one of my all time favorites! Brandon Lee will always have my heart.

7. From Dusk Till Dawn. The Original none of the sequels. I love this whole cast!

8. The Cabin in The Woods. Loved this one it's a perfect Whedon flick it's got the right amount of gore and it's hilarious!

9. Zombieland. Because sometimes you need to watch Woody search for a twinkie lol and kill a ton of zombies.

10. Beetlejuice. Does this one need an explanation? Michael Keaton at his best!

So this is my list. What about you? What are some of your favorite Halloween movies?

And come back next week for Top Ten Books I Want To Reread (or if you don't reread...would reread in an ideal world)

Hugs,
Jaime

Blog Tour- UNHINGED Halloween Post and Giveaways!!!!!

Ok y’all! I’ super psyched because today is my favorite holliday and one of my dear friends and favorite authors is here today for her UNHIMGED Blog Tour!!! Yep A.G. Howard the amazing author of SPLINTERED is here with Jeb (swoons), Alyssa, and Jenara to talk about their Halloween Memories! Also make sure to check out the TWO awesome giveaways I have going on!!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN and welcome to stop #10!

Memories play a pivotal role in the Splintered series. Though they are as unique as the people they belong to, one universal thread binds them all: emotions.
Today, Jeb, Jenara, and Alyssa are sitting at a table and sharing some past Halloween memories and what they felt while experiencing them.
*****
*Jenara flips through a scrapbook and settles on two pictures*

Jenara: Okay, Bro. The directions were to pick a costume that had an impact on you. I don’t remember it saying anything about choosing two.

Jeb: *frowning* That’s weird, I just picked the foil mask. I don’t know how that other one got--

Alyssa: Uh, I chose that one. It impacted me. I bent the rules a little. *twines red strand of hair around a fingertip*

*Jeb studies Alyssa, intrigued*

Jenara: Well, I can’t blame you, Al. It was a masterpiece. Even if I do say so myself. My artistic prowess must’ve imprinted indelibly on your mind that day.

Alyssa: *snorts* Pretty sure it imprinted on Jeb’s butt even more than my mind.

Jeb: *scowls at his sister* No kidding.  I hated that tail. I asked you to make a black devil costume, and you used a feather boa to skimp on sewing. Nice. *clenches jaw* I almost got the crap beat out of me for wearing that trick-or-treating. Those two older guys kept calling me a kitty cat.

Jenara: The way I remember it, the words ‘kitty’ and ‘cat’ never figured into the equation. And you’re the one who had them both pinned to the ground and wouldn’t let them up until they gave over their candy.

Alyssa: Yep. Shiny black fabric, stretched across straining muscles in the moonlight. Enough said.

Jeb: *slants a gaze at Alyssa and grins a sexy smile, hot enough to scald her cheeks* I really am a kitty cat. If you pet my belly, I purr.

Alyssa: *holds his gaze* Don’t I know it.

Jenara: *fakes a yawn* Getting back to the one you picked, Jeb. Fill us in on the deets. The aluminum foil musketeer. How could you even see out of that thing?

Jeb: *taps a thumb against the table* I didn’t want to see. Dad had given me a black eye.

Alyssa and Jenara: *silence*

Jeb: I made a mask like the one Leonardo DiCaprio wore in that movie to cover it up. Kept telling myself that somewhere I had a twin brother who would take my place so I could take his, even if it was in a dungeon.

*Alyssa weaves her fingers through Jeb’s*

*Jeb squeezes her hand back*

Jenara: *gulps and turns pages* Sorry, Bro. Let’s move on to something happier, okay?  Mine and Al’s costumes.

Jeb: *tilts head in agreement*

Jenara: I chose my Tinkerbelle costume from when I was thirteen. It was the first one I ever made, and after that I knew I wanted to be a designer.

Alyssa: And I can’t wait for you to rock the fashion world.

Jenara: *grins* Thanks, bestie. So, give us the deets on your pink ghost.

Alyssa: It was a popsicle.

Jeb: *wraps an arm around her waist* Your mom?

Alyssa: *nods*

Jenara: What am I missing?

Jeb: She used to make Al Jello popsicles when she had a sore throat.

Jenara: Gah. You two are such downers.

Alyssa: *smiling* It’s not a bad memory. It’s a good one. And pink was her favorite color. That’s why I wore it that year. To remember her even when she was away. I think I was eight at the time.

Jenara: * dabbing her eyes* You guys are going to make me ruin my mascara. Stop it.

*Alyssa and Jeb exchange smiles*

*Jenara flips pages*

Jenara: Okay, last, we were supposed to find two memories we share. The worst and the best of our Halloweens together. I think we can agree on these. Definitely, those random clowns at that park next to our duplex rate as the most disturbing memory. Even though later we found out it was a publicity stunt by that ice cream place … Creamery Carnival.

*Alyssa shivers*

*Jeb’s hold tightens around her waist*

Jenara: Dang guys, it was four years ago. You’d think you just saw it two seconds ago.

Alyssa: For some reason it feels like yesterday. *her eyes meet Jeb’s*

Jeb: *lifts Al’s hand and kisses it reassuringly* Al doesn’t like clowns. Let’s get to the puppy picture, J.

Jenara: *brow wrinkling in confusion* O-o-o-okay. That was the year the local ASPCA had a Halloween parade pet adoption and Al and me fell in love with the pirate Weiner puppies.

Alyssa: And we sent Jeb to buy them for us while we filled out the paperwork.

Jenara: But he used our money and bought the dogs for those two little foster girls instead.

Jeb: *shrugs* You would’ve done the same thing if they’d looked at you with their sad eyes. Plus, they were sisters, which meant the puppies got to stay together, too. And you both loved watching them get their faces licked.

Alyssa: Yeah. I’ll never forget those sweet smiles. *sighs*  Puppy-breath fixes everything.

Jenara: Ain’t it the truth? *smiles*

Jeb: *grinning* They should bottle the stuff.

In Unhinged, there’s a memory keeper and a magical place where lost memories are stored, much like we store our memories here in scrapbooks or journals to preserve them. In honor of that, today we’re offering this Alice in Wonderland journal as a prize. Simply enter the rafflecopter below, and leave one of your favorite Halloween memories in the comment section.

Tomorrow, be sure to stop by for tour post number eleven when Morpheus will share the origins of dressing up at Halloween and the Dos and Don’ts of entertaining when your guests are of a netherling persuasion. If you have any costume party plans this weekend, you’ll want to be sure to take notes.

Also, if you haven’t entered the giveaway for a chance at one of the 12 Unhinged ARCs, check out the rafflecopter below.

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

 About A.G. Howard
A.G. Howard was inspired to write SPLINTERED while working at a school library. She always wondered what would've happened had the subtle creepiness of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland taken center stage, and she hopes her darker and funkier tribute to Carroll will inspire readers to seek out the stories that won her heart as a child.

When she's not writing, A.G.'s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

Sweet Evil Read Along Week 4- Final Week and Giveaway

Hey y’all! Welcome to week one of the Sweet Evil Read Along hosted by Mindy at Magical Urban Fantasy Reads and co-hosted by me here at Two Chicks on Books as well as Rachel from Fiktshun, Tara from Tater’s Tall Tales and Nancy from The Ravenous Reader!

This week we’ll be reading chapters 26-31 and our topic this final week is Halloween. I hope you all have had fun reading one of our favorite books with us! Yay my favorite holiday!!!!!!

So with such an open topic what should I talk about? Hmmm how about haunted houses? I did volunteer work for a local charity and every year we had a haunted house. I loved it I actually started out as a starving 8 year old chained to a wall in a cell (yep I really started when I was 8!) I gradually moved on to the graveyard by the time I was 12 and got to scare the bejeezus out of people by flinging myself out of a coffin (yep a real one and it was awesome). By the time I was 16; I became a guide and we had a dentist friend who helped with the house, he actually made me real vampire fangs (still have them to this day) and I loved guiding people around the house and hearing their screams. Yep lol I’m demented also that’s why my friends who know me well know I don’t scare. At all. Horror movies make me laugh and I've never read a book that scared the crap out of me. I kinda wish I had.

So peeps here’s my task for you this week think of a book that will scare the crap out of me and no Stephen King please he bores me. Also what are your favorite things about Halloween???

Ok so here’s the deal as you all know I’ve read Sweet Evil and instead of lulling you to sleep with my review again I’m going to share a favorite passage of mine….

“Do you remember what I told you about the twins and their father, Astaroth?” he asked. “About how they can sense romantic bonds between people?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s why I hit the booze that night when we were all together this summer. I didn't want them to know there was anything there. I didn't want to explain anything or listen to their rubbish.”

My pulse quickened. He was admitting there was something between us. Something mutual.

“And tonight?” I asked, playing with the zipper on my jacket. He pulled a flask out from under his seat as an answer, and my heart turned a solid gallop in my chest.

“Don’t worry. I’m sober right now. I’ll start drinking when we pull up.”

Ok seriously a messed up way to tell someone you care but coming from Kaidan I’d take it any way I could lol.

Make sure to check out my complete review check here! Oh and if you haven’t signed up for the read along yet it’s not too late you have until the 28th! Just go the Sweet Evil Read Along Page and sign up! And to everyone who has participated all 4 weeks y’all rock!!!!! And good luck with the giveaway!!!!

Party Time

Grab Stace and escape

You can’t even process what this creature is. It’s huge, man-shaped, but there’s no time or light to look closer. As it shambles toward you, you grab the first thing your hand touches in the dark, an old broom. Wielding it like a sword, you shout Stace’s name.

“I’m here,” she cries, voice ragged with shouting and sobbing, and you slash out at the man thing. Running past it, you stumble over something on the floor and nearly fall into Stace’s shaking arms.

“Back there,” you manage to get out. Even through the musty fog of the basement, you can smell the smoke from the garage. “The outside door!”

Together you scramble toward the back of the basement. Boxes and old junk clatter to the concrete, and behind you there’s an anguished grunt.

“Come on,” you urge Stace, grabbing her hand and running up the short set of stairs to the rusted bulkhead doors that lead outside. At first they stick, groaning as you push on them, but Stace joins you. Together you throw yourselves against the doors and they yawn open with a metallic whine.

“Run!” you yell, and she grabs your arm as you race across the lawn, away from the billowing smoke and the demonic orange glow of the burning garage.

“What … what is going on?” Stace sobs once you’re in the street. You stop under a lamppost, panting, and kick off your ridiculous shoes. It’s hard to believe they’re still on your feet at this point.

“I have no idea,” you tell her, “but we’ve got to find Michael, and probably Des. Come on.”

Party time is over. It’s survival time now.

You’ve reached a dead end to the story. Go back to the beginning at Reading Teen (http://readingteen.net/)

Jaime's Review of The Hidden by Jessica Verday

From Goodreads
A love that knows no bounds.

Abbey knows that Caspian is her destiny. Theirs is a bond that transcends even death. But as Abbey finally learns the full truth about the dark fate that links her to Caspian and ties them both to the town of Sleepy Hollow, she suddenly has some very hard choices to make. Caspian may be the love of her life, but is that love worth dying for?

Beautifully spun, emotionally gripping, and irresistibly romantic, The Hidden will leave you breathless.

Jaime’s review….

I couldn’t wait to read The Hidden I was super anxious to find out how Abbey and Caspian’s story would end and Jess delivered! I was also sad because this has been a favorite of mine and it’s hard seeing something you’ve spent so much time with come to a close. With that said I can say it was the most beautifully written ending I could have imagined. I laughed, I cried, and when I went to sleep that night I had a smile on my face.

The Hidden started pretty much where The Haunted left off which was a very good thing since we were left with one hell of a cliffhanger. This book had action but it was more about Abbey learning to trust herself and her feelings for Caspian so she could do what needed to be done to be with him forever. It was also about learning to let go and move on. Her love for her best friend Kristen seemed to hold her back but, through a new character in this book Cyn; Abbey finds out how to get what she wants and also give back to the people she cares about.

The story wraps up all the loose ends which was kind of bittersweet. I’d love to see a spin-off of the Revenants or Nikolas and Katy. I also loved how we finally found out Caspian’s connection to Sleepy Hollow. This was one of my first ghost stories and it will always have a soft place in my heart. It will most likely be re-read a few dozen times as well ;) Take it from me if you haven’t read this series October would be the perfect time to pick it up Ghosts, Sleepy Hollow, Death, and Halloween? What could be more perfect? If you’ve read the first two books and have The Hidden on your TBR what are you waiting for? Move that baby up to the top of your pile!!!! Oh and also go visit Jess Verday’s website she’s got all kinds of cool stuff on there like links to buy Abbey’s perfumes :D

You can buy The Hidden at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your local bookstore. Happy Halloween and Happy Reading!!!!!
