The Perilous Journey of the Not So Innocuous Girl
Lady Marguerite lives a life most 17th century French girls can only dream of: Money, designer dresses, suitors and a secure future. Except, she suspects her heart may be falling for her best friend Claude, a common smithie in the family's steam forge. When Claude leaves for New France in search of a better life, Marguerite decides to follow him and test her suspicions of love. Only the trip proves to be more harrowing than she anticipated. Love, adventure and restitution await her, if she can survive the voyage.

L. Statham
Leigh Statham was raised in the wilds of rural Idaho, but found her heart in New York City. She worked as a waitress, maid, artist, math teacher, nurse, web designer, art director, thirty-foot inflatable pig and mule wrangler before she settled down in the semi-quiet role of wife, mother and writer. She resides in North Carolina with her husband, four children, five chickens and two suspected serial killer cats. If the air is cool and the sun is just coming up over the horizon, you can find her running the streets of her small town, plotting her next novel with the sort of intensity that will one day get her hit by a car.

Exclusive Cover Reveal- THE CURE FOR DREAMING by Cat Winters and a Giveaway!

I am sooooooo excited!!!! Today I get the EXCLUSIVE cover reveal for THE CURE FOR DREAMING by Cat Winters releasing in October 14, 2014! I adored Cat's other book and am dying to get my hands on this one myself! Check out the gorgeous cover, synopsis, and enter to win an ARC!

About the book:

THE CURE FOR DREAMING by Cat Winters
Publisher: Amulet Books
Publication date: October 14, 2014
Olivia Mead is a headstrong, independent girl—a suffragist—in an age that prefers its girls to be docile. It’s 1900 in Oregon, and Olivia’s father, concerned that she’s headed for trouble, convinces a stage mesmerist to try to hypnotize the rebellion out of her. But the hypnotist, an intriguing young man named Henri Reverie, gives her a terrible gift instead: she’s able to see people’s true natures, manifesting as visions of darkness and goodness, while also unable to speak her true thoughts out loud. These supernatural challenges only make Olivia more determined to speak her mind, and so she’s drawn into a dangerous relationship with the hypnotist and his mysterious motives, all while secretly fighting for the rights of women. Winters breathes new life into history once again with an atmospheric, vividly real story, including archival photos and art from the period throughout.

From Cat:

To create the cover for The Cure for Dreaming, the book’s designer, Maria T. Middleton, started with a black-and-white historical photograph of a young hypnotized woman—the same photo that served as my inspiration for the novel’s opening chapter. She then worked her magic on the image, added that gorgeous lettering, and the final result is vibrant, intriguing, very Victorian, slightly odd, and absolutely perfect for the story.

Even more exciting are the cover’s hidden surprises. Look closely at that ornate wallpaper in the background, and you’ll catch hints about the novel’s darker side. See those swirls radiating from the girl’s head? On the final cover, they’ll turn into a hypnotizing special effect. And if you’re wondering what the girl’s feet are up to, you’ll need to wait until the full dust jacket becomes available. The young woman’s body will wrap around to the back of the book. I couldn’t be happier with Maria’s highly clever creation.

Merry Christmas Eve!!!!!!!Today’s topic is Best Book Covers of 2013 (MUST be a book released in 2013. Would be best if it's a book you've READ in 2013, but it's not required) and this year publishers finally decided to do something other than a girl in a pretty dress (Thank you Publishers!). I did add one pretty dress cover though because I love the color :)

1. Asunder Jodi Meadows. Jodi always has the most stunning covers!

2. The Essence by Kimberly Derting. Still haven’t read this series but I love the cover!

3. The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas. I loved the original cover design for this one but I think the people at Harper thought it looked too much like the Mortal Instruments movie poster and also The 10th Kingdom. But this one is just as stunning!

4. Splintered by A.G. Howard. What can I say look at the detail that Nathalia Sullen puts into this one! It’s simply gorgeous!

5. The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd. The cover just screams creepy and I love it!

6. The Elite by Keira Cass. This orange dress is freaking gorgeous! It’s my favorite cover of the whole series!

7. Dance of The Red Death by Bethany Griffin. It’s just as beautiful as the first and I love that it’s purple!

8. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke. Love the cover it’s absolutely stunning and creepy! Too bad the book wasn’t as good as the cover.

9. Ashes on The Waves by Mary Lindsey. Love Mary and her covers but I think this one is my favorite! Her cover artist at Penguin nailed the feel of this story.

Top 10 Tuesday (1)- Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

So I've never done a Top 10 Tuesday before but I saw the topic and I was like... Oh I have to do this one! There are so many epically bad covers out there and it's time I share the ones that make me cringe the most! Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting Top 10 Tuesdays!

#1

White Cat by Holly Black actually the whole series. I adored the first cover and the books and then Simon & Schuster made this disco ball 70's theme with the series and all I want to do is vomit!

#2

Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I adored the very first cover! This series has had so many makeovers I actually got whiplash!

#3

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. Another series I love and I loved the original cover!

#4

Crewel by Gennifer Albin. I loved the original cover it was so vibrant and colorful!

#5

The Shade Series by Jeri Smith-Ready. Another series I adore and I loved the original covers. I think this was another fail from Simon & Schuster.

#6
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood. The original cover was so stunning! I'm still scratching my head as to why Penguin Teen changed this one.

#7

Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey. This book was an ok read but it did deserve a better cover. They tried with the paperback edition and it is a bit better. But still not great.

#8

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. I really, really loved the first cover and this was an epic fail in redesigns.

#9

Delirium by Lauren Oliver. Hated this revamp the original was soooooooo much better!

#10

The Hollow by Jessica Verday. I actually still have this one on my bookshelves and it reminds me of the Pretty Little Liars opening scene she looks like a doll. I also have the new paperback that was for once in my opinion the right redesign from Simon & Schuster.

So what do you think? Do these make you cringe as much as me? Let me know!

This was kinda fun I may have to do Top 10's more often!

1. Incarnate Jodi Meadows. I loved the butterfly and I thought this was absolutely breathtaking!

2. Embers & Echoes by Karsten Knight. I loved the simplicity of the cover and it's really beautiful!

3. Defiance by CJ Redwine. Not a girl in a dress! I loved the forest above and the castle illusion below and the redhead heroine stands out so well!

4. Everneath by Brodi Ashton. K I said there were a few and this is one of my favorites! I love the smoke at the bottom!

5. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.Loved this book and I loved this cover! The lightening and the blues were just so pretty!

6. Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey. I thought this was a smart cover with a girl in a dress. I love how she's levitating above the water.

7. Masque of The Red Death by Bethany Griffin. The cover artist who did this one got it all right! I loved the MC didn't have a face it was blocked by the parasol. And I'm a huge fan of reds and greys!

8. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. I just saw the cover remake for this series and I'm pretty mad. I loved this original and thought it fit the series so well. I loved that the MC was crying a tear of blood since she is a vampire.

9. Gravity by Melissa West. This cover is brill and I'm not just saying that because I work at Entangled. It was another simplistic one but it just said soooo much!

10. Luminosity by Stephanie Thomas. If you've read the book; which I hope you all will. This cover is a perfect fit! I love the darker covers and this definitely fits Stephanie's dark story!
