Morganville The Series News and exclusive Content

Hey All! I wanted to share some awesome things! Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires Series has become a TV series on YouTube adapted by Geek and Sundry! If you've read the books or even if you haven't this is a great time to start!

Here's some information about the show.

Morganville: The Series Revitalizes Vampire Genre Just in Time for Halloween
Rachel Caine’s Snarky Vampires Perfect for Geek & Sundry’s October Line-up

Geek & Sundry: Rachel Caine is adapting her Morganville Vampires books – fifteen (15) total – for a hilarious fright fest of a web series. Each episode of the first season is expected to be 8-12 minutes long, bringing the entire season to about an hour and is freely adapted by Rachel from the first novel – Glass Houses. The first season will begin airing on Geek & Sundry October 27th with a prime schedule planned out… the hope is that the first season finale lands on Halloween day.

Thanks to a passionate fanbase who fully supported the Kickstarter project (and whose funds were then matched by Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry), Morganville Vampires: Book Series became Morganville: The Series and utilized one of the fastest, most innovative platforms for upcoming shows. Through the expansive reach of Youtube, Rachel’s fans can enjoy the show without the long wait that comes through traditional television and also, reach a worldwide audience faster. All around it made the most sense for a book series of this size and caliber.

Even though web series are seen as non-traditional formats, the casting process and scouting for film locations remains normal. Auditions were held in Dallas, LA, Austin, New Orleans and some digital (to give fans of the books a chance at the spotlight too). Rachel wrote all the character monologues for the auditions. The entire show ended up being filmed on location in Dallas, Texas in four separate venues, including a coffee shop, a turn-of-last-century Victorian home, a hospital, and a university. Nearly every episode ends with Rachel’s infamous cliffhanger endings!

Switching from book to film writing was easier than Rachel expected. The very first thing she did, ended up setting the stage for the adaptation process and made it easier for her to focus on the story she wished to tell. Rachel says, “The first thing I tried to do, since I wrote the book in 2006, was to write down everything I remembered from it without re-reading it. That was fascinating, because what I wrote down was really the core story, and that turned out to be what needed to be told in the show. So while I did go back to the book, I did it for the purposes of review, not inspiration.”

Fans might be wondering how a 10-day- shoot in April 2014 could possibly yield a story they recognize, Rachel is confident the series delivers and explains, “For practical purposes, you can only have so many characters in a show with this running time, so some characters from the novel, while really interesting, ended up not being central to the plot (like Miranda). However, I did think it was important to introduce Myrnin, who is a fan favorite character, into the mix early, so he makes a short appearance this season.”

Summary -- Morganville - a brave teen (Claire Danvers) moves to the very isolated West Texas town to attend the local university, only to (a) run afoul of the local mean (very mean) girls, and (b) move to the safety of off-campus housing with three strangers.

But the plot thickens when she discovers that her new housemates aren’t crazy: Morganville really is run by vampires. They own it, and every one in it. And now ... they own her.

Morganville: The Series – The show stars fan favorites Robert Picardo as Oliver (Star Trek: Voyager) and Amber Benson (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) as Amelie, as well as Lindsay Seidel (Claire), Jordan Taylor Farris (Shane), Haileigh Todd (Eve), Ben Easter (Michael), Nikki Donley (Hannah), Afomia Hailemeskel (Monica), Jessi Mechler (Gina), Taylor Murphy (Jennifer), Gregory Connors (Brandon) and Chase Ryan Jeffery (Myrnin). It is directed by Blake Calhoun, known for his award-winning and groundbreaking digital series Pink and Continuum, the show was filmed on location in Texas on a Blackmagic camera.

Rachel Caine –  is a fictional character herself … a pen name of writer Roxanne Conrad. Since 2003, Rachel has written in the adult Urban Fantasy genre (the Weather Warden, Outcast Season, Revivalist and Red Letter Days series) as well as in Young Adult fiction (the Morganville Vampires series and award-winning novel Prince of Shadows). She is the author of more than forty novels and many short stories, and is regularly featured in anthology collections, most recently the Charlaine Harris edited Dead But Not Forgotten.

Book Trailer- Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine

Hey y'all I just wanted to do a quick post about Rachel Caine's new book THE PRINCE OF SHADOWS. I am dying to get my hands on this book! It's a R&J retelling with a twist! It's told from Benvolio's (Romeo's best friend) POV and I am excietd!

Goodreads/Amazon/Barnes & Noble
Release Date: February 4, 2014
A standalone built around the character of Benvolio, from Romeo and Juliet. The novel will be told from the point of view of Benvolio, who is Romeo’s cousin and, in Shakespeare’s play, attempts to get the lovelorn Montague interested in other girls after it’s discovered that Juliet is a member of the clan his family despises: the Capulets. Caine’s novel, her agent said, explores a scenario in which Romeo and Juliet are not the only couple to fall into dire romantic straits and is “a tale of intrigue, betrayal, hatred, and tragedy,” about “lovers lost, and lovers found.”

And so here's the trailer!!!

Blog Tour- DAYLIGHTERS by Rachel Caine

Today is my stop on the Daylighters Blog Tour check out my rumor of the day if you have a question post it in the comments and Rachel will answer (if she can lol) and make sure to check out all of the other sites for theirs!

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow: The Daylighters Blog Tour
Rachel Caine says goodbye to Morganville

Master storyteller Rachel Caine has her hands full with her bestselling Morganville Vampires novels coming to an end, and a brand new book (a retelling of Romeo and Juliet titled Prince of Shadows) on the way. But with speculation about Daylighters (Nov. 5, 2013), the series finale, at an all time high, she just couldn’t resist dropping some hints. She’ll be stopping by to answer your questions in the comments below, but she can neither confirm nor deny what’s true and what’s not!

Rumor #6: Someone’s getting married!

From Daylighters:

She put a hand over his mouth. “You asked me to marry you. Were you serious?”

She took her hand away. He didn’t say anything. His lips formed what would have been the start of a word, maybe a sentence, but he didn’t actually speak.

She’d actually scared the words right out of him.

“Uh … that came out of nowhere,” he said.

PRINCE OF SHADOWS is out February 4th!
Be sure to watch the official book trailer and read an excerpt!

Daylighters Blog Tour Schedule:
Oct. 31: Page Turners

Rachel Caine is the New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty novels, including the Weather Warden series, the Outcast Season series, the Revivalist series, and the Morganville Vampires series. She was born at White Sands Missile Range, which people who know her say explains a lot. She has been an accountant, a professional musician, and an insurance investigator, and, until recently, carried on a secret identity in the corporate world. She and her husband, fantasy artist R. Cat Conrad, live in Texas, which so far as she knows does not actually contain any vampires.

Check out Prince of Shadows!!!

A thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

Jaime's Trip to The Smart Chicks Kick It Tour and The Northwest Book Festival

This weekend I got to fly up to Seattle, WA (Kirkland actually) for The Northwest Book Festival who hosted The Smart Chicks Kick it Tour. It was a beautiful cool overcast Washington weekend which was awesome because it has been pretty warm here in Nor-Cal. Mindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads, her friend Tiffany, and my mom who is a huge Jeri Smith-Ready fan flew up from Sacramento as well.

The festival is pretty small and it seemed to be mostly indie and self published authors but I did get to meet one of my favorite indie’s Cyndi Tefft who wrote the amazing book Between if you’d like to know more check out my review HERE. Cyndi signed my very own copy of Between, I sat in on a panel she was on, and we had an awesome time! Then my Saturday wound down so mom and I went to see Moneyball which was AWESOME I’m an Oakland A’s fan so I knew it would be but even if you’re not I suggest seeing that movie Brad Pitt was perfect as Billy Beane!!!

Sunday rolled around and the sun was shining it was a perfect day for the big event! We had breakfast at The Original Pancake House which if you’re ever in Kirkland and want some great grub eat there the food was fantastic! Then we headed over to the Teen Union Building where the Smart Chicks event was to be held; we met up with Kristina from kristina-worldofbooks who is a WA native and fellow blogger that I was really excited to meet! I also got to hang out with Tera Lynn Childs who wasn’t on the panels but drove over to visit. The Smart Chicks arrived shortly after us and my mom went kinda photo happy so most of the pics in the slide show are hers ;) The authors that attended this year were Melissa Marr, Melissa de la Cruz, Kelley Armstrong, Jeri Smith-Ready, Rachel Vincent, Rachel Caine, Richelle Mead, Sophie Jordan, Margaret Stohl, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Nina Kirkiri Hoffman, Sara Zarr, and Stephanie Kuehnert. There were so many of them they actually split up into two panels so we had about an hour and a half with each group to ask questions and hear funny stories. Then the signing started and I thought last year’s Smart Chicks event was crazy but this one topped it. I didn’t even get all my books signed I would have missed my plane but, Mindy and Kristina were more than happy to help out and get the rest of my books signed and will send them to me! Thanks ladies BIG HUGS!!!!! Oh one more thing before the slide show. Last year I went to the Smart Chicks event in Menlo Park, CA and this was before we had the blog. I can honestly say after that event one year ago was when I started to really want to start a blog and a big reason why I did so thank you Smart Chicks you have a loyal follower and friend here and I will always make your events!! Much love –Jaime

Ok and now the slide show I hope you enjoy!!!!!!

Mom took some video with her new camera so I thought I’d share one of those clips My #TeamKilt girls will like this clip since it's Jeri talking ;) ;)

Thanks for letting me share my weekend with you I’ll have more fun event stuff to post after October 9th when Patricia and I go to the Becca Fitzpatrizk and Michelle Hodkin signing and then in April when I (and hopefully Patricia) go to the Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention in Chicago!
