Blog Tour- Furious by Jill Wolfson and a Giveaway!

Hey y’all! I’m super stoked to have Jill Wolfson here for a music post today! I love doing these posts so authors can share their favorite songs and also maybe introduce you all to some new music! Oh and make sure to enter the giveaway for a finished copy of Furious!

Haven’t heard about Furious? Check it out!

Furious
Jill Wolfson
Release Date: April 16, 2013
Hardcover: 336 pages
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. (BYR) (Macmilan)

Three high school girls become the avenging Furies of Greek legend.

We were only three angry girls, to begin with. Alix, the hot-tempered surfer chick; Stephanie, the tree-hugging activist; and me, Meg, the quiet foster kid, the one who never quite fit in. We hardly knew each other, but each of us nurtured a burning anger: at the jerks in our class, at our disappointing parents, at the whole flawed, unjust world.

We were only three angry girls, simmering uselessly in our ocean-side California town, until one day a mysterious, beautiful classmate named Ambrosia taught us what else we could be: Powerful. Deadly. Furious.

Now on to the Music Post!!!! There will be YouTube videos for some of my favorites!

Thanks to Two Chicks on Books for hosting this blog tour stop and for suggesting a playlist. Furious is so infused with music that my daughter, Gwen, and I had the best time picking out songs. Ambrosia and each of the Furies have her own theme song and then lots of angry-girl music, plus something for Raymond who plays the violin.

So here’s the playlist – with who or what inspired it.

Heads Will Roll – Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. (Ambrosia)

Tickin’ Bomb – Shovels & Rope (Definitely Meg/Megaera)

Pipeline – Stevie Ray Vaughn (Classic surf music for Alix/Alecto)

You Don’t Own Me – Lesley Gore (Old-school-style for Stephanie/Tisiphone)

Fire Ant – Alex Winston (The Furies first test their power on an ant. Amazing that there’s a great song about ant-hating.)

Where’s My Bow? – Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer [Imagine Raymond playing this on his violin]

Feeling Good – Carly Rose Sonenclair

Sweet Pea – Amos Lee (Something sweet for romance)

Criminal – Fiona Apple (Embrace the badness when love goes wrong) One of Jaime's Faves!!!!

The Furies – The Furies (There’s an actual band called the Furies, so the playlist ends with this one.)

Plus I admit that I listened to this several times as inspiration for the Hunter High Marching Band. Warning: I pretty much dislike marching band music, so this is for hardcore band music fans only. Children of Piraeus from Zorba the Greek. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s91GdgJHct4

Now I need your help. To whip themselves into a frenzy and capture their victims, the Furies use their “binding song.” The ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus describes the music this way:
We sing for the victim
Insanity’s song,
Delirious, demented,
The Furies’ hymm,
Spellbinding minds,
Unstrung strains burning the brain.

Intense! Do you know a song like that? Suggestions?
Or how about composing something yourself?
Let me know what you come up with. There’s a prize for the one I like best (autographed copy of Furious, plus swag.) Send your suggestions to jill@jillwolfson.com. Subject: Fury song

  7. That's an easy question! I LOVE Feeling Good. It was awesome in the original version for the musical, it was incredible when Michael Buble sang it, and it still gives me chills when I hear her do it!
