There is no pixie dust in faerie...

In faerie The Hunt is the top of the food chain, and me? I'm the head of the viper, or so they tell me. But that's a lie. Something is rising, a dread, a fear that cannot be named, and I'm about to dive right into the thick of it. Now, if only I can get the guys and The Hunt to work together then maybe we can all come out of this unscathed.

Join Eva and the guys as they adjust to life in faerie in this sequel novella to the For the Blood Series.

Excerpt:
I moved atop Elias, the tempo of my rhythm increasing as I approached climax. He thrust his hips up to meet mine, his fingers biting into my hips with pleasant intensity. I tipped my head back, and one of his hands relinquished its hold on my hip and moved to my breast. He was rough, kneading and tugging just the way it worked with us.

Close, so close.

Oh God.

Awareness rippled through me, a tugging of a different sort. The Hunt. The dead. I had to… Oh God… The orgasm ripped through me, accompanied by Elias’s moan. Green flashed before my eyes and Caister’s voice cut through my groan.

“If you’ve quite finished.” He stood at the head of the bed dressed in his inky-black Hunt gear, leather and cotton and more leather. His emerald gaze swept over my naked form with something akin to arrogant ownership. The heat of passion died as anger flared to life in my chest, along with the bite of something else that I couldn’t define.

“Get out.” Words that should have been clipped came out breathless, which annoyed me more.

Elias cursed colorfully and attempted to pull out of me.

I placed a hand on his chest to hold him in place. “Not you.” I glared at Caister, ignoring the flutter in my belly at the way his eyes blatantly roved over my body. “You. Get out now.”

He crossed his arms and raised his attention to my face, slow and leisurely. “We have a calling.” My horn materialized in his hand. “Blow this for a change.”

I glared at him, resisting the urge to take the horn even though every fiber of my being wanted to. “The dead can wait a few minutes.”

His jaw clenched and his eyes flashed emerald. “Your orgasm can wait a few hours.”

“Fuck you, Caister.”

A dark look flashed across his eyes and his lip curled. “You wish.”

About The Book:

Title: THE LIGHT: HOUSTON TEXAS
Author: Joe M. Solomon
Pub. Date: June 11, 2019
Publisher: NES Publishing
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 538
Find it: Goodreads, Amazon, B&N, iBooks, Kobo

March Madness has begun and college basketball playoffs are heating up, not that Robert Walker—a graduate student from Texas—particularly cares. He has decided to skip classes for the day, sleep in, and get some rest. Unfortunately, a brief spat on the phone with his fiancée makes that impossible. Hoping to take his mind off of it, he scans through TV channels in search of entertainment and instead finds one news report after another that warns of violence erupting in the streets.

People are randomly and savagely attacking one another all along the East Coast from Maine to Florida. Some speculate it may be related to strange lights that have appeared in the sky above the outbreaks. Before any solid conclusions can be drawn, however, the brutality spreads, sweeping across the country until it hits Houston, then proceeds on to the West Coast. Robert, a handful of classmates, and a few others manage to survive the first wave and find themselves in the midst of civilization’s blackest hour, surrounded by pandemonium, bloodshed, and masses of people who have been stripped of their humanity. Hours later, as those strange lights continue to dominate the sky, the vicious horde undergoes a new transformation.

There is no escaping the horror. Unable to reach his fiancée by phone, Robert sets out to find her, joined by a small ensemble of fellow survivors. The thirty-five miles they must cover are fraught with danger, and their terror grows with each step they take as they witness the genesis of a new Earth. Can they find a way to stop it? Will they even survive it?

Now on to the interview!

Hey Joe!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! THE LIGHT: HOUSTON TEXAS sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thank you for the interview. I’m happy to be here celebrating the big release.

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the THE LIGHT: HOUSTON TEXAS and the characters?

In The Light: Houston, Texas, a handful of college students find their worlds turned upside down when mysterious lights abruptly appear in the sky and dramatically change (for the worse) anyone who looks up at them. Chaos and violence erupt. But this is only the beginning. And these students, boasting a variety of personalities and backgrounds, will have to work together to survive.

What are you working on now?

I am working on an anthology that will include sci-fi, suspense, and horror stories, some with humor mixed in. I am also working on my next novel, which will follow the anthology.

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

No. They are a combination of personalities I have rattling around in my imagination: What if you insert this attribute into this deranged person or vice versa?

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

Anthony was my favorite character to write. I wanted him to be horrible, awful, just a terrible person no one could root for. At the same time, I didn’t want him to be too terrible since everybody has a little goodness in them. However, if something unfortunate happened to him, I wanted readers to cheer.

My least favorite character to write is one who presents one face when you meet the person, but secretly possesses a nefarious motive. I know it is a simple character. We’ve all met people like that, too. But I hate writing characters like that. In Anthony’s case, he at least proudly proclaims that he is a snake so you know exactly what you’re getting.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in THE LIGHT: HOUSTON TEXAS?

This is an early scene in which Robert and Alex (Alexandria) are trying to wrap their minds around the chaos that has erupted, chaos that spilled into Robert’s studio apartment in the grad house. They are just coming out of hiding. Robert had sought refuge in a closet while Alex hid in a bathtub with a torn shower curtain thrown over her.

* * *

“Not good,” Robert told her softly. He stood slowly, the movement inspiring a moan.

“Are you okay?”

With an almost catlike grace, she hopped out of the tub. “Are you?” she asked.
Robert gaped.

“Four years of high school basketball,” she said. “But you know that.”

He nodded.

“You want to turn that off?” Alex pointed at his cell phone. “Might need the juice later.”

“Oh. Yeah… yeah,” Robert said almost as an afterthought, then nodded toward the next room. “I guess we should go out there, huh?”

“I guess.”

“Okay. I have to officially say this: I’m scared shitless. I know I’m the guy, but—”

“What, are you crazy?” Alex interjected. “This isn’t about opening a door or picking up a check on a first date. This is the end.”

Robert nodded and took another nervous deep breath. “Yeah. Yeah.” He expelled it. “The Doors.”

Her brow crinkled in confusion. “What doors?”

“The Doors. Jim Morrison. This is the end. You know.”

“The Doors.” Watching him with an eagle eye, she added, “Right. Right.”

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I had to research various aspects of NASA, learn about SOFIA (The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), nuclear submarines, military compounds, and detailed mapping of certain parts of Houston that Google Maps don’t really show, as well as surrounding areas.

Who is your ultimate book villain?

Pinhead from The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker.

What inspired you to write this story?

I always begin with, “What if. . . ?” From there I plug in different ideas, and this was the result of them.

Lightening Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist.

Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.

River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.

Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.

Power of Five is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel.

Now on to the excerpt!

“Is this why you tried to stop my hunt?” Zake snarls into my face. “You wanted to intercept the immortal before he reached me?” His meaty hand turns me around, pressing my head against the barn’s side as the belt uncoils behind me. “What did you offer him, wench? Your maidenhead? Tell me the truth now, girl—it will only hurt more if you lie.”

“I’m not lying,” I say, my body already bracing for the coming blows. “Zake—” I clamp my mouth shut as the belt whistles through the air. There is no stopping this now, and little reason to waste breath that I’ll need shortly.

A furious growl rips through the air. Just when my back is supposed to explode in flame, a dark shape hurtles out of nowhere. Before I can blink, Zake is in the dirt, a large wolf prowling over him. The wolf’s lips pull back, revealing wet canines that glitter in the sun, its thick gray pelt and black muzzle bringing me straight back to last night’s dream.

I gasp, stepping away—and knock right into a wall of muscle and maleness. Tye, the smiling red-haired fae male, is no longer amused. The green-eyed stare he gives Zake is filled with the promise of violence. Not that there will be much of Zake left if the wolf has his way.

“What’s going on back here?” says a quiet voice. A new fae male strides out of the stable, this one dressed in warrior black and sporting a glare that says he’s one breath away from razing the whole estate to the ground. If Tye is an overgrown adolescent, the newcomer is a deadly killer, with long blond hair tied up in a bun, a chiseled jaw, and piercing blue eyes that seem to strip me and find me wanting in one glance. The wicked-looking blades strapped to his waist and back complete the effect.

“Just a wee misunderstanding,” says Tye. “I have it handled.”

The warrior snorts. “That’d be a first.”

Tye sighs in a long-suffering way. “Lera, this is Coal. Try to ignore him the best you can.”

Coal crosses his arms, his eyes finishing their examination of the soon-to-be-dead Zake and the salivating wolf before coming to a stop on my face.

As with Tye, a ripple of recognition races through me, though I’m certain I’ve never seen this male before. My instincts scream at me to run, even as the male’s eyes draw me toward him, the corded muscles of his forearms and shoulders making my breath quicken.

“Time to go, lass,” Tye murmurs into the back of my neck. A command. An invitation. A challenge.

Murderous fae. Mystwood. Broken bones.

My heart pounds, even as my body feels the rightness of Tye’s words and aches to accept them. I swallow, feeling as though the male has claimed me already. And not just him. Five, my soul seems to whisper.

Five what?

Five. There should be five. Has to be five.
