Princess Sepora of Serubel and King Tarik of Theoria have formed an uneasy truce between their kingdoms since the deadly plague began to rip through Theoria. Since their feelings for each other are entangled in politics and power, they must use their own trusted resources to find common ground.

But when traitors with powerful allies arise from unexpected places, Tarik and Sepora face challenges that will change both of their kingdoms forever. Will they learn whom to trust—including each other—in time to save their kingdoms, their relationship and even their lives?

Now on to the interview!

Hi Anna! First I want to say welcome back to Two Chicks on Books it’s been a long time since you’ve stopped by for a visit! ALLY was absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

Thanks so much for having me! I’m ecstatic to be back, and very humbled that you’d have me!

For the readers: can you give us a little recap about NEMESIS and the characters?

NEMESIS is about a runaway princess who both intrigues and infuriates a boy king to no end. She has the power to help his people, yet if that power falls into the wrong hands, ALL the kingdoms may be doomed, so she struggles with whether or not to trust this boy kingand her feelings for him.

So is this the end? Is there more for Sepora and Tarik?

Ally is the endand the beginning. But beyond that, I cannot say more! But lucky for you, both books will be out and you can read to your heart’s content! Also, there is no need to write me hate mail for the ending of Nemesis. I know what I did to you and I stand by it. J

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

This time, no. I had to dig deep and find the characters by myself this time. I actually wrote conversations between them and short scenes that never made it into the books just so I could get a good grasp on who they were as people.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

Sethos, Tarik’s younger brother. He’s so abrupt and honest, no matter what everyone else thinks. As for my least favorite, I don’t think have one. Even the obvious villains are fun to write, and I find that writing deceptive characters is vastly amusing to me! >insert maniacal laugh here< J

What is your favorite passage/scene in ALLY?

It’s at the very end, so I can’t tell you. But I do love the scene where Sethos himself kidnaps a certain opposing kingdom’s princess. J

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

Oh. Em. Gee. I have been buried in books and documentaries about Ancient Egypt for months! Only to find that some of the things I learnedI changed for the book! I did a lot of research on how things could scientifically be feasible in ALLYand its kind of amazing that a lot of it could actually happen, if we just evolved a tiny bit more.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

Warner from the Shatter Me series. To this day, I think about him. So. Freaking. Hot. I love the tormented, imperfect, and almost unredeemable type. We’re getting married one day. You’re all invited to the wedding.

After we get divorced, I’m going to marry Morpheus from the Splintered series. ‘Nuff said.

What inspired you to write YA?

I hate this question because it makes me sound like a beeeoch. Listen. I started writing YA after I read Twilight. I thought to myself, “If she can get published, surely I can get published. Yay!” But lemme tell you, Stephenie Meyer made writing look easy, which is damn hard. Kudos to her. Truly. But she did inspire me to give it a go, so thank you Stephenie!

Lightening Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

I’m currently reading DAUGHTER OF THE SIREN QUEEN (be jealous!). I’m obsessed with the first book and I somehow got my grubby hands on an ARC. And can I just saySqueeeeeeeee!

Also, can’t wait to read RENEGADES by Marissa Meyer. I went on a writer’s retreat with her this spring in Hawaii (highly recommended!) and just from chatting with her about it I can’t wait to read it. Then there’s BERSERKER from Emmy Laybourne. I had the pleasure of reading an early first draft of this (it was soooo gooooood!), and now I’m curious to see the final result!

What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?

Okay, so because the end of the world was supposed to be on September 23rd, I actually confessed that I did not actually reador watchHarry Potter. Are we still friends? What House do YOU think I would be in?

I’d think you’d be a Hufflepuff Anna 😊

Song you can’t get enough of right now?

I have this obsession with Chase Holfelder. He remakes popular songs in his Major to Minor feature and right now I keep listening to his remake of Every Step You Take and dreaming of Morpheus.  You should check him out on YouTube. He’s so talented.

Winter Movie you’re most looking forward to?

I don’t keep up with movies coming out, just books. ButI do want to see the next Avengers, X-Men, and anything else superhero. And if they’re making another John Wick, I’m there.

Thanks so much Anna for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read ALLY!

Can I just say I love you? And thank you for having me? And always practice safe sexread books instead?

Haven't heard of FROST LIKE NIGHT? Check it out!

Title: NEMESIS
Author: Anna Banks
Pub. Date: October 4, 2016
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Pages: 368
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
The princess didn't expect to fall in love--with her nemesis.

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

Now on to the interview!

Hi Anna! First I want to say welcome back to Two Chicks on Books it’s been a long time since you’ve stopped by for a visit! NEMESIS was absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And am so happy that you could stop by for a visit!

Thank you SO much for having me! I haz missed u. :)

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about NEMESIS and the characters?

Sepora is a runaway princess who hides in her enemy’s kingdom, Theoria. There she becomes a palace servant to none other than the boy Falcon Kinga Lingot who has the ability to discern the truth from a lie. She must tread carefully if shes to hide her secrets from him, including her ability to Forge spectorium, a very valuable element and just exactly what he needs to rid his kingdom of the Quiet Plague ravaging his people. Can they learn to trust each other in order to save lives and prevent a war with her home kingdom?

So do you have a title for book 2 yet? When can we expect the cover to be revealed?

The title for book two is ALLY. I just turned it in to my editor, so the cover is a long way off. :(

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

Not from my real life. Tarik is inspired by the boy King Tut of Egypt. His kingdom Theoria is based on ancient Egypt with a few twists thrown in for good measure. Sepora is the person I wish I was. Courageous, yet humble, and feisty yet sympathetic.  She thinks she’s a coward for a lot of the book, but truly, she’s as brave as it gets when standing up for what you believe in.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

I really enjoyed writing Sethos, Tarik’s younger brother who is a Majai warrior trained at the Lyceum of Favored Ones. Sethos is easy going, a bit of a womanizer, and provides a good deal of comic relief to slice through the tension building between Tarik and Sepora. Yeah, he’s my fave.

I didn’t really hate writing any of the characters. They all have their place, and as the author, I have a commitment to writing them as best I can, regardless of whether they’re a villain or not.

What is your favorite passage/scene in NEMESIS?

And that’s when I see the whole picture, every last painted swoop of the brush. I drop his hand. “Are youare you toying with me? I scoot away from him.

“How do you mean?”

“Did you bring me here just to woo me into telling you where you can find your precious spectorium? Did you bring me here to push me over my edge, to soften me up?” I feel so betrayed. So foolish. This entire day has been dedicated to soliciting my knowledge, of plundering my secrets. He wanted me to meet his people, to feel sorry for them, to see them dying in the Lyceum and want to help them. He brought me here to see the beauty of a city that could die if I don’t help them. He brought me here to place the responsibility of it all on my shoulders.

Just as my father would have done.

I see the exact moment the realization strikes him. His face changes from confusion to rage and then, to my surprise, softens into laughter. “Spectorium,” he says, more to himself than to me. “I could see, of course, why you would think that.”

“Well?” I demand, unamused. I’m not even sure what I’m asking, just an explanation perhaps, or better yet, a confession.

He slides to me then, closing the distance I’d put between us. I have nowhere left to move. Does he mean to push me from the top of the pyramid if I refuse to help him save his people?

“Yes,” he says, leaning toward me. I feel panic and something else I cannot name ricochet throughout me. “And no.” His eyes fall on my lips, and I know my cheeks will certainly explode with the warmth filling them. Fears of our lips brushing together replaces fears of falling to my death.

“Yes, I did bring you here to woo you,” he says softly. “But no, not for the spectorium.” And he lowers his mouth to mine.

Tarik waits for me then, our lips barely touching, as if asking a question without words. He waits for me, letting me know that my answer will determine if this will be our first kiss or his last effort at one. He waits for me, tiny me who is about to tremble from the ledge under the scorching heat of his touch.

And I make him wait too long.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I watched a lot of documentaries on ancient Egypt, read a lot of books, did a lot of Pinterest research to inspire outfits in the book, and to inspire places and scenes. It was fun, all of it.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

Warner from the Shatter Me series

What inspired you to write YA?

You’ve heard this answer a thousand times, I’m sure, but after I read Twilight, I was hooked into reading and writing YA. Then Graceling, then Fire, and I never looked back!

Lightening Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig. I have Stalking Jack the Ripper on my nighstand though, and it’s beckoning me!

What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?

I refuse to let Hogwarts sort me. I will not be sorted!

Top Ten Tuesday (77)- My Top Ten Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

Hi thanks for stopping by!!! And welcome to my Top 10 Tuesday post!

Thanks to the lovely ladies at The Broke And The Bookish for creating this weekly meme!

Here's this week's topic.

August 9: Top Ten Tuesday REWIND-- go back and do a topic you missed over the years or recently or a topic you really want to revisit.

I chose a topic from April 2011, Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign. These are all books I've read, loved, and hated the covers or books that I've read that had an amazing original cover that the publisher decided to redesign and was an awful redesign.

I'll add book covers so click on the cover to be taken to their Goodreads links. Also if the cover is a redesign I'll post both the original cover and the bad redesign. You'll notice that all the redesigns I hate are Penguin or Simon & Schuster redesigns. I have no idea why they feel the need to redesign perfectly good book covers.

1. I just recently read this one and I really enjoyed the story! I can't stand this cover though.

2. Loved this story but man do I hate this cover something fierce!

3. Ok here's one that's gone through a cover change. There was nothing wrong with the first and it's by far my favorite.

4. Another Andrea Cremer book. Such a good book and such an ugly cover.

5.  Another redesign I hated. But I am obsessed with this series!

6. Another bad redesign. I loved this book too!

7. And one last Andrea Cremer one which had a horrid redesign. Book 2 was redesigned as well but I didn't like that original cover.

8. And I think these are the worst offenders when I comes to redesigns! I feel really bad for the author too! Talk about a bad knock off of the Throne of Glass Covers!

9. I love this series but this redesign really made me upset. The original covers were so pretty!

10. And last but not least! I lost count how many redesigns this series went through and I still think the original cover for book 1 was the best!

So what about you? What are some covers you wish you could redesign? And check back next week for my Top Ten Books With X Setting (top ten books set near the beach, top ten book set in boarding school, top ten books set in England, etc)!
