About The Book:

Title: CAPTIVE DESIRE (Planet of Desire #2)
Author: Robin Lovett
Pub. Date: November 19, 2018
Publisher: Entangled Publishing, LLC (Scorched)
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 200

Gahnin, a Ssedez general, hasn't had a woman since his first mate died a century ago. And since his kind can live for a thousand years, he's still bound by traditional mourning. If he breaks mourning, he could lose his position in the Ssedez military. His friends and family. Everything.

That means no falling in love. No lust. No sex. For another century.

Then he's ordered to guard Assura, a human woman and military special operative, on a planet whose atmosphere causes a sexual arousal so fierce, it drives people insane if it isn't satisfied.

Even though he tries to keep Assura at arm's length, he's hooked. Forbidden desire called to life by a human, the same species who killed his first mate. Assura needs his body if she is going to live. But if he gives in to his passion, it could destroy him.

Now on to the excerpt!

Assura grasps my hand. “Gahnin, my relationship with my former lover was what we call casual.”

“Casual?” I have misunderstood and betrayed my  concern for her. I am not supposed to care about herand I am failing.

My vulnerability grips at my anger and pulls at my chest. I do not understand this woman or these humans or any human. “What is casual about love? There is nothing more powerful in the universe.” I have lived with the grief of losing it for ten decades. I am both marked and scarred forever.

Assura leans her head on her knee, and her expression is full of sensitivity and patience. “I love her for the extraordinary woman she is. She is glorious to share a bed with. But I never had any desire to be exclusive with her or to have a commitment from her.”

This translates into nothing I have experienced before.

I have seen other unmated warriors engage in such relationships. But I have never succeeded. “So, you have not cheated or been unfaithful with me?”

“No. I’m free to sleep with whoever and whenever I like.”  She says it with lightness almost like it is a joke.

But there is nothing funny about it to me. “That means that what you and I have is also I have to swallow before I can say itcasual. The acid eating at my stomach, rather than lessening, gets worse. It starts to burn in my gut.

There is nothing casual about the mating bond that is still brewing inside me for her. It is a force of nature, one that I can try to deny or avoid. One that I must conquer.

She hesitates but eventually agrees. “Yes, this is casual.”

I stare off in the forest. “It is also chemically induced.”

“What do you mean?”

“We have been lovers only because of the toxin in the atmosphere which makes us want to have sex, the desidre.” I say this because  I need it to be true. That is the only reason I still crave her body like an addiction.

She stops breathing, so I have to look at her. “That is She stutters with confusion, and her voice morphs to indignation. “Do you honestly believe that? You think the only reason we’re like this”she gestures back and forth between uslike a damn lit fuse waiting to go off, is because of the desidre?”

“Of course it is,” I assert but cannot stop from noticing how her breasts are propped up against her knees, from remembering what they felt like in my hands.

She tosses her head back and stares at the stars. “You know, they say it’s the desidre, but I haven’t felt like having sex with anyone but you, and the Fellamana told me the desidre should make us want to have it with anyone who
breathes. Why is that?”

My breath stops, and I do not want to answer. “I do not know. I have never indulged in casual sex.” It would have been disrespectful to my first mate's memory. Still is.

Assura drags her gaze down to mine, and there’s a mischievous glint to her eye, like she knows something. “You are what we call a serial monogamist, Gahnin. You need to wrap your logic around sex as recreation, not only something to indulge in when one is mated or committed or whatever.”

I try; I do. But it’s as though my brain is a computer and the entry code is wrong.

About Robin:
ROBIN LOVETT enjoys trips to alien worlds to avoid earthly things, like day jobs and housework. A boy and his best friends set out to discover the aliens who crash-landed next to their Roswell, New Mexico, farm in this charming novel packed with adventure and heart, perfect for fans of Ali Benjamin's The Thing About Jellyfish and Jennifer L. Holm's The Fourteenth Goldfish.

Mylo never really believed in Martians, unless they had a starring role in one of his comic books. But then a flying saucer crash-lands next to his Roswell, New Mexico, ranch, and he starts to hear voices--like someone is asking for his help.

With his best friend Dibs and crush Gracie by his side, and his Cracker Jack superhero membership card, a slingshot, and a small American flag--for peace--in tow, Mylo sets out on an epic adventure to investigate the crash and find the Martians. But he and his friends end up discovering more about the universe than they ever could have imagined.

Now on to the excerpt!

I can’t sleep.
The clock on the nightstand reads 1:00 a.m.
“Dibs,” I whisper down at him. “You awake?”
“Yep,” he whispers back.
“Where do you think they’re from?” I ask him.
He doesn’t hesitate. “Mars,” he says. “Probably they were on some kind of mission to take over our planet . . . our minds . . . you know, that sort of thing.”
I snort. “Where did you get that?” I ask him.
Dibs gives me a look like my brains really were sucked clean out of my head by the Martians out at the ship last night. “Where do you think? The Planet Comics series.”
I scoff. “Oh, the Planet Comics series,” I mock him. “The real-life guide to Martians.”
“What we really need to worry about is the second shift that might come down angry and level us with their Martian weapons,” Dibs says. “What do they want with us? And are they a hostile entity?”
I lean on my elbow. “What do you mean?”
“Like Martian mind control . . . or like what kinds of weapons do they have? Ray guns, phasers, stuff like that. What superpowers do they possess? Do they want to destroy mankind? Bring the human race to the very brink of extinction with a rampage of destruction and all that?”
I don’t say anything.
“God made good and God made evil,” he goes on. “Whether you’re talking about Adam and Eve or Martians. The only difference is Martians are one million times smarter than us and they have powers far beyond what we can even imagine. If they want to take over Earth, believe me, they can do it.”
“That’s your comic books talking,” I tell him. “You don’t know it’s true for real life.”
“Yeah, well, that’s what you said about the disk and you were wrong about that, too,” he says. “You don’t want to believe anything is true ’cause you’re scared and that’s a fact.”
“And you’re not?”
He doesn’t answer me that time.
We lie there for a long while with no one saying anything until Dibs punches at the pillow again and turns over.
“There’s something else I have to tell you,” I say.
“Yeah?” He yawns.
“I hear something,” I say. “Sometimes I think I do. I mean, not like with my ears. But it’s something. Or it’s . . . someone.”
Silence.
“I don’t hear anything,” he says.
“No, I mean, not right now. I have been hearing someone calling for help and no one else seems to hear it.”
Dibs’s head pops off his pillow and I can feel his laser-beam gaze bore a hole straight through me. What do you mean? Who?” he finally asks.
“I think it might be . . . them,” I say without looking at him. “It’s someone or something . . . asking for help. My help.”
“Help?”
“I think it could be them. . . . Th-the Martians.” I whisper the last word. “I mean, I don’t know who it is. ’Cause I don’t see anything. Except sometimes I see these outlines on the backs of my eyelids. Does that sound weird?”
“Very weird,” he says.
I sigh and flop back down on my pillow. “Forget it.”
He stays sitting up, staring at me.
“Are you messing with me?” he finally says.
“No,” I say.
“Swear?”
I sit up then, too, and look him straight in the eyes. “Swear.”
Silence.
He’s still staring.
“I’m telling you, I hear them. It’s like . . . it’s like it’s my own voice but it’s . . . it’s their message, and they’re asking for help . . . my help. I mean, I don’t know . . . I haven’t heard anything since we left yesterday . . . maybe they are talking to someone else by now. I hope they are, because I’m afraid that . . . you know . . . well . . . if they’re not talking to someone else, then . . . then maybe they’re not talking at all.” I swallow the lump pushing its way up my throat from my gut. “You know what I mean by that?”
Silence. I fold and unfold my fingers, waiting for him to say something else.
“You’re not lying?”
I shake my head. “Nuh-uh,” I say. “I’m telling you the truth. Cross my heart I am.”

World peace came, just not from this world.

The year is 2355. The deadly virus that killed millions of people is gone, thanks to the quarantine measures put in place by the Criterion, an alien species who appeared just in time to save the human race. In exchange for complying with their tough control measures, the Criterion promised us the technology for interstellar travel. We’ve done all they’ve asked, yet we’re still on Earth with no way of getting into deep space. The Criterion are lying to us. What they don’t know is that we’re lying to them.

Kethryn Miller is an award-winning actress, but nothing will prepare her for the role she’ll take on when a strange woman who shouldn’t be alive turns up in the city, threatening to expose the lies that have kept peace on Earth for 200 years.

Exclusive Excerpt!

City Prime glowed at night, its beauty undeniable. Millions of lights in every imaginable color blinked like neon lovers communicating in code. At least until midnight. After midnight, the power conserves came into effect, and buildings disappeared from the skyline as holo-advertisements and electricity mains shut down. Complete darkness lasted no more than the blink of a neon light; like children afraid of the dark, buildings flickered into life as insomniacs reclaimed the night.

Kethryn Miller stood on the balcony of the eighty-fourth floor, gazing out to the other buildings, wondering what kept her fellow insomniacs awake. She would swap her troubles for theirs any day.

A Criterion ship popped into view. Reflexively, Kethryn took a step back. The Divinity was gold and elliptical with sensor arrays that resembled incandescent roots reaching for the ground. One of a hundred border patrols ships, one for each Earth state, this alien hawk followed a pre-plotted course around the ten cities of State Seven. A citizen could tell time by the patrols. Each noon and midnight the Divinity floated over City Prime. Each night when it hovered by, Kethryn sensed the co-operatives inside – humans who worked security detail for the Criterions – watching her watching them.

She reached for the bottle of wine on the table and the movement activated the Visual Imaging Device – VID – pulling her attention to the invitation projected onto the screen. It showed an invitation for the presidential inauguration in two weeks, one she couldn’t avoid since this was her inauguration. Spending twenty-four years trying to dodge the inevitable made the challenge seem useless.

Damn world peace, Kethryn thought. It wasn’t worth her happiness.

Bobbie Flemming was having one of those terrible, no good kind of days.

Her boss yelled at her because of something a co-worker did, her sometimes boyfriend was getting engaged to another woman, and she wore two different shoes to work. To make matters worse, she agreed to be in a charitable “most eligible” auction for her friend Chuck, who won’t speak to her if she doesn’t show up.

Bobbie doesn’t feel most eligible, and she definitely doesn’t feel like going on a date with someone so desperate they have to win her in an auction. But when two of the hottest men on the planet, who happen to be twins, show up and outbid everyone, Bobbie thinks she’s won the lottery. Until the one in charge opens his mouth and she realizes he’s bat sh*t crazy.

Now, Bobbie’s being whisked off, without her consent, to the middle of Central Park — and what is that — a spaceship?

This was how Bobbie finds herself stranded on an alien planet, with not two, but four incarnations of the same man. (They do that on their planet, it’s like their thing.) And all four of these hot alien males think Bobbie is their fated charge mate. All Bobbie knows is she didn’t sign up for this. Sure, the sex might be awesome, and the guys might be super-hot, but what does it take to get back to Earth where everything is normal, and there aren’t Emperors who want to kill her?

    EXCERPT:

Did he ever think of our night together in the tent?

I did.

Without a doubt, I’d been tipsy, but I remembered everything. For so many years there was tension between us. It started as annoyance, my best friend’s older brother who always acted like a douche. Then, after he joined the Army and came back to visit, it was like he’d matured just enough to lose that obnoxious edge and I realized for the first time how sexy he was. I wanted him. Back then, pursuing guys had been my vice, but I knew Amber might be weirded out by it.

When I thought back to that night at the nature reserve…it was really our last night of true freedom and happiness. It’s strange to think we were happy, especially since our parents had been taken prisoners at that point, and we’d watched his grandfather be killed, but we still had hope. We thought we’d get our parents back. We didn’t have any idea just how horrible things were. Or that aliens were real.

I rubbed the prickly hairs on my arms down and took another bite. I didn’t want to think about that night in the tent. The sound of Tater’s laughter. His wide smile. The way the neck of my loose shirt had slid down while I was arranging my sleeping bag and laughing drunkenly. His warm mouth as he kissed me on my exposed shoulder…when I turned to him, Tater had never looked more serious. It had been a look of question, like, “Is this all right?” And I’d responded by sliding my hand behind his neck and pulling him down on top of me.

Now he never smiled or laughed.

“How are things in the fields?” I asked him.

Tater gave a single shrug, not looking up or saying a word. “If you’re wondering,” Linette said with spite, “Things are amazing with the livestock. I can fill a bucket with milk in record time, and helped a mama swine birth seven piglets yesterday. I’m a regular fucking Farmer Jane.”

Before I could respond, Tater whispered, “I need you to get us a radio.”

Our end of the table went silent and still. I glanced at the guards, who were surveying the room with bland expressions, then I forced another bite into my mouth. When I looked up again, Linette had that crazed look in her eyes, staring straight ahead. Her strategizing look.

“Are there cameras in the room where you teach?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” I whispered.

“How can you not know?” she asked, annoyed. “Look today.”

“Okay, but there’s no way I can take anything. I’m never alone.”

“The guards cannot be staring at you the entire time.” Linette nodded to the bag at my side. “Slip it in there.”

“Remy,” Tater said to his bowl. “If you can get your hands on anything electronic, we can try to use it at night to send or receive signals, and you can return it in the morning.”

My stomach was roiling at the idea. There’s a reason I didn’t join the military. Stealth and danger were not my things. But I was the only one with access to the palace.

“I’ll look,” I promised.

“Have you been alone with him yet?” Linette asked.

My innards seized at this, churning my breakfast. I felt both of their eyes on me as I stared at the pasty contents in my bowl and minutely shook my head.

“Make it happen,” she demanded.

From the corner of my eye it looked like Tater was holding his spoon so hard he might bend it in his fist. I reached out with my leg as far as I could under the table until my foot touched his. The contact, even through our shoes, sent blood whooshing to every nerve in my body. I watched as his hand relaxed on the spoon, and he pressed his foot to mine. Our eyes never met. We were quiet as we finished.

“Did Remy tell you her fantastically stupid idea to try and teach the girls in our room after hours?”

Tater’s eyes flew up to me, scorching me, and I looked at the guard again. When I found one of them staring straight at me, my demeanor changed to demure and I gave the guard a soft smile before looking back down. From the corner of my eye I saw Tater’s hands clench into fists again, and he brought them under the table to his lap.

“Rem…” Tater’s voice was filled with warning.

“It’s fine,” I whispered, grabbing my tray and standing. “Don’t worry.”

I wished Linette hadn’t told him that. As if he didn’t have enough crap on his mind. I sent her a glare, which she returned, and I caught one last look of Tater’s stiff form, hands in his lap, knee bouncing and jaw locked. I wished so badly I could hug him and try to calm him. But all I could do was walk away.

And Don’t Miss the First Two Novels in the Unknown Trilogy!

About UNKNOWN (Unknown Trilogy #1):

Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.

When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.

In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.

About UNREST (Unknown Trilogy #2):

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities...lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can't escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.
