For one night of my life, I dared to do something reckless.

My birthday. A bar. Karaoke. And a man so hot he could melt the sun.

Sparks flew. Lust took over. For one night of my life, I felt alive.

Then I was back to my “boring” life. Career-driven. Goal-oriented. Always planning ahead.

But nothing could have prepared me for the positive pregnancy test. We weren’t that reckless.

There goes my “boring” life. And what happens when I tell the father?

Interview:

Hey A.M.!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thanks so much! I’m can’t wait for everyone to meet Jade and Max. I love how their story turned out.

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN and the characters?

Well, Jade Easton is a lawyer who has meticulously planned her life and career. While celebrating her birthday with her best friend, Amy, she’s talked into do something crazy and impulsive. That decision derails her plans and puts her future on a new path.

What are you working on now?

The book is called Trey. It’s a stand-alone spin-off from my rock star books, The Back-Up Series.

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

Yes. I wrote Jade’s sister Sapphire very much like my own sister.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

I don’t have just one. I loved writing Jade and Max, who is an identical triplet. I also loved writing Amy, who is so much fun, and Max’s brothers Brad, and Nate.

My least favorite was probably Jade’s father, only because his reaction to Jade’s predicament is a heartbreaking reality.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN?

I love the night that Jade and Max came together. It really sets a tone for a relationship neither was prepared for. And that spark that they shared never dwindles, in spite of all the obstacles they face along the way. I also love the Lamaze scene, and laughed out loud as I wrote it.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

From my books, Jack Lair. He was my first, and he is everything I find sexy and endearing in a man. Beside the whole rock star thing, I physically modeled him after my dream man, dimples included. He’s cocky, loyal, alpha, fiercely protective, and not afraid to reveal his feelings.

What inspired you to write romance?

I’ve read romance since I turned twelve and discovered Judy Blume. I always loved writing assignments in school. About seven years ago, I had a very vivid dream about a rock star and a relationship he had with his back-up singer. That sparked the idea to write The Back-Up Series.

Lightning Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

I’m in a reading lull right now because of a deadline that’s quickly approaching. Once I’m done with my current WIP, I can’t wait to read Perfect Chaos by Jodi Ellen Malpas.

What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?

Um… I’m not a Harry Potter fan and need to confess I never saw any of the movies.

Twitter or Facebook?

Really Instagram is my favorite. No drama, and easy to navigate. But between Twitter and Facebook, I’d have to say Facebook.

Favorite Superhero?

Superman

Favorite TV show?

Of all time, Friends. Recently, I love The Bold Type, This is Us, and everything connected to The Bachelor.

Sweet or Salty?

Salty

Any Phobias?

Rats

Song you can’t get enough of right now?

Feel It by Michele Morrone.

2020 Movie you’re most looking forward to?

I’m dying to see The Gentlemen, mainly because of Charlie Hunnam.

Thanks so much A.M. for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read NOT ACCORDING TO PLAN!

Thank you for helping in sharing my new release!

Interview:
Hey Mike!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! HANNAH GOODHEART AND THE GUARDIAN OF TIME sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thanks so much! I’m excited to share Hannah’s story.

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the HANNAH GOODHEART AND THE GUARDIAN OF TIME and the characters?

For sure! Hannah Goodheart is turning thirteen and her birthday gets turned upside down when she finds what she thinks is a charm for a necklace or bracelet, but she soon discovers its so much more. Hannah and her friends find themselves on a chase to catch a time-traveling thief and find the rightful owner of the powerful pendant, the Guardian of Time.

Hannah Goodheart, of course is the main character and the story is told mostly from her point of view. Her friends, Morgan McVey, Lily and Annie Little, Sean Evans, and Sam Blake are caught in this cat-and-mouse chase with her. I don’t want to reveal too much about the villain—that’s part of the mystery of the story, but you’ll get to meet plenty of interesting characters along the way.

What are you working on now?

I’ve just wrapped on the manuscript for the second book in the Hannah Goodheart series. I’m excited about where the story is about to go. I’m hoping to have some announcements on this next chapter as soon as my publisher completes the editorial review, but for now it’s on to writing book three.

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from
your real life?

Absolutely. Virtually every character in the book has a real-life inspiration—some characters have bits and pieces of more than one person. Hannah Goodheart is loosely based on my daughter, Hannah, who inspired me to continue writing and pursue my dreams at a difficult time in my life. My Hannah grew up with a tight-knit group of friends who informed character elements of Hannah Goodheart’s friends in the book. Each character, however, has taken on lives of their own and have become very dear to me in their own respect.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your
least favorite?

I enjoyed writing them all, but Annie Little was such a blast to write. She’s a quippy little red head who always has something to say. Sosthenes wasn’t my least favorite to write, but in many ways, he was the most difficult. A character from another world, Sosthenes is ancient and wise. He doesn’t use contractions, so it was many rounds of editing to get him just right. He’s also telepathic and given to monologuing, which presented a few challenges for me as a writer.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in HANNAH GOODHEART AND THE GUARDIAN OF TIME?

At the heart of Hannah Goodheart is a story about family and the importance of life’s first friendships. There were a few scenes that were especially meaningful for me to write and are still moving for me when I read them. The third chapter, for example, takes place in the attic of Hannah’s home. She’s an “old soul,” and as she rummages through the dusty relics that belonged to her great-grandparents, there’s a deep connection for me personally. That being said, I’m a fan of science fiction/fantasy. So, I especially love chapter 10, which finds Hannah and her friends on the alien world of Kalos, named for the ancient Greek word meaning “beautiful.”
Someday, I’d like to visit it for real.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

Plenty! Somewhere, some government agent has me on a watch list due to my internet search history. I researched everything from ancient Greek culture to quantum physics. Since Hannah Goodheart and Guardian of Time is a time-travel story, I had to make sure certain historic moments in the book were accurate. I don’t want to give anything away, but I spent nearly a hundred hours alone just researching details for chapter 11, The Dealey Dilemma. The detail and narrative had to be right.

Who is your ultimate book villain?

That honor goes to Sauron from Tolkien’s, The Lord of the Rings. Sauron embodies everything that makes a villain someone to fear—especially for my twelve-year-old self. Jadis, the White Witch from The Magician’s Nephew was a “Dem fine woman” and fearsome villain. Doyle’s character Moriarty get’s my honorable mention. There’s something frightening and super creepy about a truly diabolical mind.

What inspired you to write middle grade?

It’s a long story, but the cliff’s notes version goes something like this: When I was in fifth grade, a teacher and my school librarian put their heads together to find for me the perfect book. They ended up putting a copy of Madeleine L’Engle’s, A Wrinkle in Time in my hands and from that moment on, not only was I reader, but it awakened me creatively like nothing else had before. I’ve always loved telling stories, but after reading that book, I wanted to tell a meaningful story that would provoke thought and spark the imaginations of middle grade and young adult readers.

Lightning Round Questions

I just started reading Starsight by Brandon Sanderson as I wrap up Una McCormack’s Star Trek: Picard novel, The Last Best Hope

Twitter of late.

I’m old-school Superman all the way.
