About The Book:

Title: THE MONSTER HYPOTHESIS
Author: Romily Bernard
Pub. Date: December 10, 2019
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Pages: 304
Formats: Hardcover, eBook

Welcome to Bohring-home to 453 people, 2,053 alligators, and one monster curse.

Correction: home to 454 people, now that Kick Winter is living in the swamp Hollows with her Grandma Missouri, the town (fake) psychic. Bohring is anything but boring for Kick who has already blown a hole through the kitchen floor, befriended a chicken-eating gator, and discovered that the town's hundred-year curse is upon them.

It's the Bohring curse and all the kids are about to become monsters-or so the legend goes. People are worried-except for Kick. She knows there's a scientific explanation for everything, especially curses and monsters. But Kick is the new kid in school and she's determined to make a name for herself . . . by pretending to be psychic.

According to her calculations: one teeny-tiny life + (fake) psychic skills = popularity. But when kids start disappearing and glowing creatures start showing up, Kick's theory quickly evaporates in a puff of foul-smelling swamp gas. Can Kick use her (real) science smarts to prove the curse is a hoax? Or is it just-maybe-sort of-somehow possible the curse is here?

Author Romily Bernard weaves a fast-paced middle-grade mystery filled with humor and scientific intrigue, set in a perfectly eerie Southern town.

EXCERPT:
Grandma Missouri’s Prediction #1
“This will end badly.”

It started with an explosion. Not a huge explosion, mind you, but one certainly large enough to send bits of floorboards everywhere. Some went down in flames. Some went up in smoke. The rest landed in Kick Winter’s box braids.

Not that she noticed.

“Should’ve reread those directions,” she muttered, knowing full well that she hadn’t read them in the first place.

Another bit of floorboard fizzled out, plunging into the ragged hole and sending the black cat, Butler, flying for cover. Kick coughed, waved smoke away from her face, and wondered if all burgeoning scientists had such unfortunate setbacks. She wasn’t sure, and she chalked this one up to yet another example of school never teaching her anything she really needed to know.

Then again, setbacks might be the least of her problems because her grandmother was now standing in the kitchen doorway.

Kick’s heart swung into her throat. For an old woman with a limp, Grandma Missouri could move fast when the situation warranted it.
Like right now, when her kitchen had acquired unexpected ventilation.

“Kick! Winter!” Grandma Missouri lurched forward, one hand white-knuckled around her cane.

“It was an accident!”

“An accident?”

“Absolutely!” Kick tried to laugh. It came out a sputter. “You know how these things go. You don’t know you’re having an accident until you’re having one and—”

Crack!

Another piece of kitchen floor tipped into the still smoking hole.
Grandmother and granddaughter listened to it land with a hearty plop. Fortunately for everyone, the Hollows—the tiny cottage where they lived—was built on stilts above the swamp, and the flaming bits simply fell into the murky water. Unfortunately for Figis—the enormous alligator who lived under the Hollows—those flaming bits were now raining on him.

As Kick watched, Figis floated past the hole, slimy with mud and looking distinctly put out.

Or maybe that was just how the alligator normally looked. She wasn’t sure. She’d only been at the Hollows for a few days.

“Your aunt was right,” Grandma Missouri said at last, studying the singed hole with wide eyes. She sat down heavily on a kitchen chair, the tiny bells on her skirt jingling. “You really are going to grow up to be an evil genius.”

About Romily:

Romily Bernard graduated from Georgia State University with a literature degree. Since then, she's worked as a riding instructor, cell-phone salesperson, personal assistant, horse groomer and exercise rider, accounting assistant, and, during a very dark time, customer service representative. . . . She's also, of course, now a YA novelist.

So don't let anyone tell you a BA degree will keep you unemployed.

Romily currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and Find Me is her debut novel. It placed first in the 2011 YA Unpublished Maggie Awards (given by Georgia Romance Writers) and won the Golden Heart Award for YA Romance from the Romance Writers of America in 2012.

Author: Mallory McCartney
Pub. Date: April 21, 2020
Publisher: MM Books
Formats: Hardcover, Paperback, eBook

“Hope was a dangerous thing. It could consume every dream and make them take flight, becoming wild daydreams in one’s heart and mind. Or hope could incinerate everything you thought you knew, burning you down to your core, leaving you raw and exposed for the world.”

Emory Fae has only known one thing—life at The Academy, a school for those who have special abilities. Following in her parents’ footsteps, the pressure to uphold their dream falls on her and one of her best friends—Adair Stratton. An outcast and feared by most, Adair longs to break away from the expectations dictating his future. With whispers of dark magic spreading across Kiero, Adair starts to doubt The Academy is all it seems.

An unexpected visit ignites new tensions as the roguish king from across the Black Sea, Tadeas Maher of the Shattered Isles, and his heir, Marquis Maher, sail to Kiero. Notorious for their pirating and wrath, for the first time in years, they demand the Faes listen to their proposition for a new treaty. Caught in the middle of politics, Adair and Emory, with the help of their best friends Brokk and Memphis, search for the one thing that matters the most—the truth.

Their world is tipped upside down as unlikely alliances are made, and war ravages Kiero. Through the throes of betrayal, lies, hidden magic, and love, Adair is faced with a life changing decision. Will he fight or bow to the darkness within?
But, Adair’s decision will change the course of Kiero forever, setting in motion irreversible destinies for everyone at The Academy as Emory Fae rises as heir.

Heir of Lies is the first book in the bestselling Black Dawn series.

The Black Dawn series is re- releasing and “Heir of Lies” (book one) is coming April 21 2020! This edition will have an exclusive map and bonus content!

EXCERPT:

The afternoon sun soaked into his neck as Brokk Foster raised the bow, drawing the string back, his arrow nocked. The bowstring grazed his cheek as his arm shook; he tried not to blink against the sweat rolling down his temple. The courtyard faded away in that second, his hawk-eyed teacher, Professor Iasan, standing to the side, his arms crossed, his face impassive. Brokk’s fellow classmates stood near, and the looming structure of the Academy was behind them.  A strand of his golden hair tickled his forehead as he exhaled. It’s not real, just release the arrow. Just release it.  At the opposite end of the range, a stuffed dummy was raised with an emblazoned red target where a heart would be.  Not real, not real, not real.  Muscles screaming, he tried to empty his charged mind, to convince himself that the undiluted fear that clutched his heart was unreasonable.  With still shaking arms, the arrow flew, cutting through the air with a soft hiss. Laugher erupted behind him, making him cringe as he lowered the bow and saw the lodged feathered end in the ground, not even close to the dummy.

“Enough!” Professor Iasan’s booming voice cut off his classmates’ jeers.

Brokk turned, lifting his gaze to meet the incredulous look of his best friend, Memphis Carter. Memphis raised one eyebrow as his smooth voice filled Brokk’s consciousness, only for him to hear, “Well, what are you going to do this time?”

Huffing, Brokk wrenched his gaze away. Sometimes his friend could be such an ass.  Tactical training class was Brokk’s nemesis, and he met, not for the first time, Professor Iasan’s cutting accusations. “Foster! What do you call that?”  More chuckles rippled out, and the tips of his ears burned. A minute passed, and then another as Brokk studied the fascinating details of his leather boots.  “Well?” Raising his gaze to meet Professor Iasan’s, that familiar flicker of anger ignited in him. He was so tired of being trained for no acclaimed threat. The Academy had taken him in years ago, with golden promises of schooling him in the control of his abilities so he could have a shot at a normal life— that they all could.  Over the years, the Academy had become a school woven from lies. The students here were regimented, honed, and molded into weapons. He did not sign up to be a soldier.  Brokk felt his lips tug upward as he threw the bow at his feet. It clattered noisily, as he threw his hands out to his sides.

“I’m done, Professor Iasan.” He brushed past Memphis, not meeting his gaze.

Through the catcalls and hollers, Memphis’s voice cut through his mind, “Brokk…” Memphis’s tone only made him walk faster out of the courtyard, not looking back once.

Blog Tour- ROSE'S GHOST by Theresa Dale With An Excerpt & #Giveaway!

I am thrilled to be hosting a spot on the ROSE'S GHOST Blog Tour by Theresa Dale, hosted by Rockstar Book Tours! Check out my post below and make sure to enter the giveaway!

About The Book:
Title: ROSE'S GHOST (Rose's Ghost, #1)
Author: Theresa Dale
Pub. Date: November 29, 2019
Publisher: Paper Doll Publishing
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 352

She just wanted her baby back. Rose’s Ghost is the first book in a series of three about a family’s connection with a tormented ghost, still desperate to gain back the child she lost. Rose remains tethered to her family’s property, beseeching those who reside upon or around it to help in her quest. But somewhere between her death and the haunting of Maggie Ridgewood’s family, Rose’s reality has become darkly skewed, and her efforts to find her child threaten to alter the lives of those whose help she enlists – or end them.

EXCERPT:

A movement from the kitchen window caught Maggie's eye. She froze, spotting a dark-haired woman in the back yard. Hunched in nothing but a light dress, the woman stood between the trees and the little bridge. Maggie saw she was holding something in her right hand, and the other looked - strange.

Gooseflesh rose on her forearms as some memory tried to surface, but she was unable to grasp it. Frowning, she headed to the back door and peered out.

The woman was looking at her, too.

Maggie stepped outside onto a thin blanket of snow. The woman waved then, with the hand that held something. Maggie moved closer, smiling and waving back.

“Hello! Did you come from the trail?” She stopped.

The woman was holding a severed hand...and judging by the blood streaming from her left arm into the snow, it was her own.

Maggie’s hands flew up to cover her mouth before she could scream.

The woman was suddenly in front of her, holding a finger of the severed hand to her lips. “Shh; he’ll hear you,” she whispered.

About Theresa:

Hello, dear readers!

Here's a little about the books I write: largely based in the supernatural, I specialize in fictional thrillers and suspense, with a little mystery added in. I love to write relatable characters and try to let them lead me through the story, as I hope they will for my readers.

I love feedback of all kinds; if you have comments, questions, ideas or requests, please reach out!

Recently, I've been dabbling in the romance/erotica as well, writing under the pen name Eleanor Eden, just because the books are so different. The Strength of Burden is "her" debut; a first in a series entitled, "The Fated Order".

I currently live in Gatineau, Quebec, but grew up in Nova Scotia, and I'm proud to set my stories in familiar Canadian surroundings. I've published what I think of as friendly ghost stories, "That Summer" and "Bird With a Broken Wing", and am over-the-top excited for the upcoming launch of Roses' Ghost - the first in a series of three about a family's connection with the long-dead spirits that haunt their land.
