Now on to the interview!

Hey Shannyn!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! MY FOREVER PLUS ONE sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thanks for having me!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the MY FOREVER PLUS ONE and the characters?

My Forever Plus-One is the third book in the Daring Divorcees series, but can be read as a stand alone. The series is based on a group of people who met in a divorce support group and became friends. Now that they’re ready to move on to the next phase in their lives, the support each other in other ways.

This book is about Owen and Evelyn. They’ve known each other longest, having joined the divorce support group first. They slept together once, early on, but then became best friends. They rely on each other for everything important in their lives. Now, they’re thinking about changing the status of that relationship.

What are you working on now?

I currently have 3 proposals out on submission with my agent. One of them that I’m really excited about and I hope if finds a home soon. It’s a Leverage-esque  (like the TV show) romcom series, where a group of people steal art for revenge.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

Evelyn was my favorite character to write in this book. For the most part, she really has her shit together. She’s good at her job and she knows what she wants.
But my favorite character of all time is Jimmy O’Malley. He’s the hero of the 4th O’Leary book Catch Your Breath. That book is the basis for my spinoff series, For Your Love, which is about the OMalley family. Jimmy is a bossy, know-it-all, but he loves his family and friends more than anything.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in MY FOREVER PLUS ONE?

I think my favorite scene is early on in the book. Owen and Evelyn are getting ready to go to their friend Tess’s engagement party, as each other’s plus-one, of course.
There’s this attraction between them as they notice each other in ways they haven’t in a long time. They drive to the party and there’s joking and flirting. When they dance together, an offhand comment about sleeping together is enough to make them rethink what they are together.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I had to do some research about my characters’ jobs. Evelyn is a TV producer, so I relied on my friend Google to help with that. Owen is a firefighter, and luckily for me, I have friends who are firefighters or who are married to one.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

There are so many heroes that make great book boyfriends. I think my top 2 favorite are Roarke from Nora Robert’s In Death series and Ranger from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. While I haven’t read all the books in each series, those heroes are men that have stayed with me and when I think about book boyfriends they stand out.

What inspired you to write romance?

This is probably cliché, but Nora Roberts inspired me. I was an English major and a literature snob. I didn’t discover romance until I bought one of Nora’s books and fell in love. Then when I went to buy more by her, I realized she wrote romance. I found my genre and I haven’t looked back.

Lightning Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Red, White, and Royal Blue

What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?

Well, I’ve never actually taken the test to sort myself, but my older daughter swears that I am a Ravenclaw because I rely on my brain and logic for everything in my life. She also said that while Ravenclaws can work well with others, they prefer to be alone (which is also totally me) Then, upon further investigation of Ravenclaw characteristics, I found a list that said Ravenclaws can often be outspoken and bluntly honestYep, Im a Ravenclaw.

Twitter or Facebook?

Twitter always.

Favorite Superhero?

Batman

Favorite TV show?

I don’t think I can pick I love too many. But the shows that I will always stop and watch if they’re on are Leverage, Friends, and Gilmore Girls

Sweet or Salty?

Salty most of the time. I love popcorn. But I would never say no to some good chocolate.

Any Phobias?

I’m slightly claustrophobic. Like, I can get in an elevator just fine. But if I’m super confined, I start having a hard time breathing. If I watch a TV show where someone is buried alive, I physically react by taking deep breaths.

2019 Movie you’re most looking forward to?

There are a few Charlie’s Angels, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
In 2020, there’s Birds of Prey and Black Widow that I can’t wait to go see with my daughter.

Thanks so much Shannyn for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read MY FOREVER PLUS ONE!

About Shannyn:

Shannyn is an occasional English teacher, who also works as a part-time editor while raising her three kids.

Even though she wrote from high school through college (mostly poetry), she’d never considered a career as an author. Writing fell by the wayside as she focused her energy on creating lesson plans and new and fabulous ways to torment her teen students. One group in particular dubbed her “The Torture Master,” a title she carried into motherhood.

After the birth of baby number two, Shannyn resigned from teaching and fell in love with reading romance novels. She read so many books so quickly that her husband teased, “If you’re going to read so many damn books, why don’t you just write one?”

So she did.

That first book is safely buried on her hard drive, but the process set Shannyn on the path to where she is today. The 6-book O’Leary series has wrapped up, as well as 2 Hot & Nerdy new adult trilogies. She’s currently working on her next series.

She is recovering from her Diet Coke addiction, fears putting her foot in her mouth on social media, and has a renewed appreciation for the bad girls of the world.

Shannyn is represented by Frances Black of Literary Counsel.

Chocolatier Emma Miller has a new business selling bonbons to the residents of the quaint town of Wood Creek. When a tiny visitor stops by her shop with an interesting request, Emma is intrigued. The young girl needs chocolates that will help her widowed dad fall in love, preferably with her teacher. What Emma didn't count on was Casey's ever so charming and handsome dad, Grant, stepping into her life. She has to remind herself to be cautious because the one thing she learned in foster care is that people always leave.

Pilot Grant Galloway is touched by his daughter's gift and is curious about the person who made the world-class chocolates. But when he steps into Emma's shop full of delicious smells and tasty morsels, he forgets to breathe. And it has nothing to do with his favorite dessert. She's pretty and kind, and when she has to deal with a difficult client, his protective instincts kick into high gear. But he risked his heart once. When his wife died, it left him broken. He's just now beginning to pick up the pieces, and he and his daughter will be leaving town once the holidays are over.

Thanks to some Christmas wishes, though, these two might discover that their carefully laid plans are about to change.

Now on to the excerpt!
“Oh, no.” The girl’s cheeks turned as red as her little coat. “I don’t want any. It’s for Daddy.”
“For your father?” Emma asked, a little surprised. Her customers were mainly women who bought the treats for other womenmothers in law, sisters, friendsor who wanted to impress guests at a party.
The girl said, “You have to make them especially. Grandma said it. She said that you can make people fall in love.”
Emma’s eyes widened. “That I can do what?” she asked.
The girl hung her head and said something in a whisper.
Emma rounded the counter and squatted beside the girl. “What’s that? You can say it in my ear.” She tucked the white cotton of the protective cap behind her ear as if to hear better.
“What’s that for?” the little girl asked, eyeing the cloth on Emma’s head.
“It’s for when I work with the chocolate. To prevent any hairs from falling into it. That wouldn’t be nice for the customers. I also wear plastic gloves when I take bonbons out of their tray and put them into a box. So I don’t leave any fingerprints on them.”
The girl giggled. “You’re smart.” She looked Emma over. “I think you can really make people fall in love.”
“Why did your grandmother say that?”
“I don’t know. But it was about chocolate. And you have a chocolate shop here. You can help me to She fell silent and eyed Emma as if she was suddenly reluctant to share. She wore a mitten and, turning her palm up, she opened her hand. On the wool rested a few coins, probably not making two dollars. “I don’t know if you sell them like Grandpa sells plants,” the girl said with a weighty frown. “They go one by one or by the dozen. I’d really like a dozen, because then I can be sure Daddy will really fall in love. You see, I don’t think he wants to.”
“I see,” Emma said, furiously trying to process everything.

“Last week Aunt Fay was watching a movie where they kiss, and she asked Daddy to come and watch with her. But he said he didn’t want to see it. And when he noticed I had overheard, he told me that he doesn’t like kissing. That he thinks it’s stupid.” She laughed. “He asked me if I think it’s stupid too and he tickled me all of the time. I had to laugh and laugh until I fell on the floor. Then he carried me to bed.” She became serious again. “Then I thought about kissing. I don’t know if it’s stupid. Grandma and Grandpa kiss all the time and they’re happy. I want Daddy to be happy.” She put her mitten on Emma’s arm. “Please help me make Daddy happy again.”

What happens when your next door neighbor is the hottest, most notorious playboy in all of South Beach?

Reece Rowe is on hiatus from respectability. Before she returns to her stable, boring existence of charity events and dating predictable, stuffy suitors who are only interested in getting closer to the wealthy family who adopted her, she’s going to get a taste of what she’s been missing. She screws up her courage and heads to Vincent Ferguson’s office to find out what all the women in South Beach already seem to know about him.

Once CEO Vin Ferguson’s tech company goes public, he’ll have proved he’s no longer the poor, gritty kid from the wrong side of the tracks. But, citing his bad boy reputation, some financial backers waver, and his friends suggest dating a more respectable woman to improve his image. Ridiculous. Because delectable but snooty socialites, like his next door neighbor, are way out of his league.

And then, Reese walks through his office door and makes him an offer. To say his jaw hits the floor is an understatement.

And he can’t believe what she just proposed...

Excerpt:

What are you wearing?

Her skin heated at the innuendo, and she felt her face flush, despite being alone. Feeling naughty, she shed her tank top and jeans and hopped in the shower. She didn’t have to answer him right away.

Twenty minutes later, with the water still dripping from her hair, she texted back,

Just got out of the shower.

His reply was immediate.

A picture’s worth a 1,000 words.

After applying her favorite lotion and sliding into her bra and underwear set, she scrolled through her phone until she found the silver shower head streaming water and sent that emoji.

A peach and clapping hands appeared, and it took her a moment to figure out the meaning. When she did, her nipples tightened.

She sent him back a French flag and lips. Shouldn’t they start slow?

His reply—the French flag, lips, and a honey pot— sent heat straight between her legs. No question, sex was happening. Tonight. And now, her underwear was as wet as her hair.

She took her time with the blow dryer and changed into a different underwear set. She hadn’t responded to his last text, but a new one came through.

Meeting almost over. See you in the garden.

The man had been sexting from his boardroom? She sent him the snowflake.

He sent back the fire emoji.
