Interview with Gisele!

Gisele – how did you get on board the Money Shot ship? Your art is a perfect fit for the series – how much did you love drawing these characters? How was it working with Tim?

Tim and I have followed each other’s work for years, and I think Tim thought I’d be a good fit here since Cherry was going to guest star. Drawing this chapter of Money Shot was a lot of fun. I understood the characters almost as if I had created them myself. Getting to draw Cherry was also a lot of fun as I was familiar with the character. Working with Tim is great, no complaints!

Cherry really spiced up this volume! What inspired you to include her? Did Cherry’s creator Larry Welz love having Cherry included? Tim – how did you approach writing Cherry in Money Shot? Gisele – what was your approach in drawing Cherry?

I drew a few issues of Archie comics, so drawing Cherry came very easy to me. Larry was very influenced by artists that worked at Archie comics. At least I think he was!

List your favorite graphic novels or comics from when you were a child and talk about how you see them as an adult.

I grew up on French BD (bande-dessinée), and what I read the most as a child was Asterix. I was a huge fan of the series, and even tried my hand at writing and drawing my own story when I was like 10 years old. I still think the series holds up, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fun stories with humor, and characters you really get attached to. Hey, a bit like Money Shotminus the sex!

Talk about your favorite (and least favorite) type of character to create/draw (Gisele) and create/write (Tim).

My favorite characters are the lovable assholes. Think Reggie in Archie comics. I like ‘em because lots of humor comes from those types of characters. They’re also fun to draw since you can make them very expressive. Least favorite? Characters with no flaws. They’re just not very interesting.

What are some of your favorites (and why):

Movies (Classic or Current)

Moonstruck (feel good movie), Raising Arizona (very funny), Just Friends (very funny), Desperado (sexy and exciting), Fright Night (‘80s horror at its best), From Dusk Till Dawn (vampire goodness), Mad Max Fury Road (great action and visuals)

Books

Anything by Rumiko Takashi. It’s all good. You can’t go wrong. If was to recommend one series, I’d say Maison Ikkoku. It’s my favorite series of all time.

Series (TV/Streaming)

Walking Dead, House, Vikings, Dexter, Sex Education. I could list more but these are the first ones that came to mind. They’re all very different from each other but in each case they have characters you care deeply about, and you want to see what happens to them.

Video Games

Plants VS Zombies franchise, Battle Cats, Skullgirls, Minecraft Dungeons, Guacamelee!, Human Fall Flat, Brawlhalla, Darksiders Genesis, It Takes Two. In general I play local co-op with my partner, so many of these games offer local co-op, and these are the ones that stand out to me. Battle Cats is single player but that I play on my phone!
