Fresh out of college and on the cusp of a promising career in New York City, Sela Monroe falls hard for Theo Walker when they meet in the park. He’s beautiful. He’s brilliant. He’s a go-getter. He’s everything she’s ever wanted. Sela would do anything for Theo. When he calls, she always answers. When he asks her to come over, she’s there in a matter of minutes. No time is ever too late. No request is ever too inconvenient.

There’s only one problem with Sela’s relationship with Theo: he doesn’t love her back. Though Sela’s best friend, Annie, has been pleading with her to move on from Theo for months, citing his manipulative behavior and the hold he seems to have over sensitive Sela, when it finally hits Sela that her feelings aren’t reciprocated, it’s too much.

After an emotional breakdown that leaves Sela in the hospital, she struggles to cope with her emotions. She has never felt more lost or hopeless or used. Only when she begins the healing process does she realize that genuine love does exist and that sometimes in places where you least expect it.

Interview:

Hey Adalyn! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! MY NIGHTS WITH YOU sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the MY NIGHTS WITH YOU and the characters?

First of all, thank you so much for having me!

Secondly, My Nights With You, is about a toxic relationship. It’s about how a person handles being involved in something like that, and more importantly how you heal from that kind of situation. Last but not least, how you find love in the aftermath of it all.

My main character, Sela, deals with a lot of trauma and emotion. She grows so much in the novel and she goes from this weak, hurt, and confused person to someone who is strong and believes in herself.

Theo is a player. He’s completely self absorbed. It’s all about self-gratification, gaslighting, and using people when it comes to Theo. Ultimately, I think he’s the type of character that people love to hate.

Gus comes into the picture to basically help Sela put herself back together. What I love the most about this character is that he is more of an uplifting kind of person. He looks for the good and helps bring out the good in people. In a way he kind of teaches a person things they didn’t know about themselves. In a very good way though.

What are you working on now?

Right now I am working on a novel titled, Graffiti. It is a contemporary romance that can best be described as American History X meets Romeo and Juliet.

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

I think we’ve all had a Theo in our lives at some point, right? Theo is loosely based off an experience I have had, so yes. As far as my real life experience goes, I feel like the lesson I learned from that was very valuable. In the relationship that I’m in now, I now know what something healthy and good and genuine is supposed to look like.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

Gus. Hands down. I’m a firm believer that sometimes we meet the love of our lives after the biggest mistake of our lives.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in MY NIGHTS WITH YOU?

I wouldn’t say I have a favorite passage in particular, but my favorite scenes are the the scenes where Sela is really starting to wake up and realize what her worth is.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I did do some research when it came to alternative approaches to battling depression, but other than that some of the parts of the story came from experiences I’ve lived through. They say you can’t write something authentically unless you’ve lived it, and believe me, I’ve been through a lot in my life.

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend/girlfriend?

Henry in The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I just think he’s adorable. I love his love of books, and how he just wants to be loved. Nobody deserves to go through life feeling broken or unloved like that, and I’d have plenty of good love to give him.

What inspired you to write romance?

Feelings and emotion fascinate me. There’s so much that goes on between two people when they’re involved with one another. My favorite part is that connection between them as well. Sometimes you can’t even explain it. It’s just there. There are no games or gimmicks. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from. I really love being able to show that through my writing. I really love being able to show what real genuine love looks like.

Lightning Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

So I challenged myself this year and told myself that I’d read at least twenty books this year. I’d love to read more, but with work, writing, and a relationship sometimes I don’t always get around to it. I’m on book nineteen, and that particular book is - The Silent Patient.

Instagram, Twitter or Facebook?

I’ve been slacking when it comes to making an Adalyn Caine insta, so my vote is twitter or tiktok.

Favorite Superhero?

Definitely, Batman.

Favorite TV show?

I’m Outlander obsessed. Can’t wait for the new season!

Sweet or Salty?

Both. Or how about we mix them together? Kettle Corn, yes please!

Any Phobias?

Spiders. Nothing on this planet should have eight legs.

Song you can’t get enough of right now?

Shivers by Ed Sheeran. I must have listened to it at least fifty times already.

Winter 2021 Movie you’re most looking forward to?

West Side Story. The original is one of my all time favorites. I’m making my boyfriend take me on opening day whether he wants to or not.

Thanks so much Adalyn for answering my questions! I can’t wait for everyone to read MY NIGHTS WITH YOU!
