Today is the biggest day of my professional career. I’ve got one shot to prove I can play with the big boys and the Lachlan account is my ticket. I’ve never been more prepared for anything in my life. So of course that went up in flames.

In hindsight, stopping to get my chocolate milk fix right before the big meeting might not have been the best decision. Neither was fighting for the last jug with a flirty Thor-lookalike. In my defense, not even a Disney-prince-smolder delivered by a sweaty sex god is a match for an anxiety-fueled chocolate craving.

And had I known before walking into that meeting that my sweaty, sex-god, milk-thief was none other than Christopher Lachlan, the new client on whom my career hung, I’d have definitely skipped my morning stop.

Curse my dumb friggin’ luck. I would be attracted to the one person I can’t have.

Now on to the interview!

Hey Kira!  First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! PUSHING HIS LUCK sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thanks for having me!

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the PUSHING HIS LUCK and the characters?

Pushing His Luck is the last book in the Winning the Billionaire series and is about Chris Lachlan, the “golden boy” of the poker group in the series and the last of the confirmed bachelors. He and his adrenaline loving ways meet their match in Charley Claybourne, a risk assessor who has been hired to approve him for insurance. Something she really can’t see herself doing since he spends his free time swimming with sharks and bungee jumping off buildings. In a last-ditch effort to prove his life isn’t as bad as it looks, she accompanies him on a trip to several exotic locations. It becomes increasingly obvious that it’s more than just their jobs on the lineits their hearts.

These two are a ton of fun together and the whole gang from the rest of the series makes several appearances so you get a taste of what’s going on in their lives as well.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on the first book of a new series for Entangled’s Lovestruck imprint and am really excited about it. A bit of a departure from my favorite enemies to lovers stories but still lots of fun. Plus, there’s a derpy dog who is based on my real life pup so it’s extra fun!

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

Hmmm, in this book, not really though several of the ridiculous things that happen to Charley are actually based on my real life experiences. I have the dumbest luck.

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

In this series, Brooks is my favorite. If I could bring a character to life and just hang out with him all day, it’d be him. He’s a blast! My least favoriteI dont think I have a least favorite. Harrison maybe, not because I don’t love him but because he was a little more difficult to draw out.

What is your favorite passages/scenes in PUSHING HIS LUCK?

Hmm there were several in here I really loved. This is an excerpt from one of my favorites though.
They were nearing the end of the song when Charley caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Her voice broke off in a strangled gasp.
“What?” Chris asked, throwing a concerned glance her way.
She leaned in her seat as far away from her window as she could get, vaguely aware that she was totally encroaching on Chris’s personal space and not giving a flying fart in the wind. Anything to get her farther away from the monster stalking across the glass.
“Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” she said, her voice growing higher pitched and more frantic with each word.
“What? What is it?” he asked, his head whipping back and forth, trying to see what was going while still keeping them on the dirt road they were bumping down.
The only response she could summon was a terrified screech. She whipped off her seat belt before he could say another word and flung herself out of her seat and half into his.
“What the
She yanked off her shoe and began beating at the spider on the window with the ferocity of awell, of a woman trying to kill the shit out of a huge-ass spider, screaming her head off the whole time. As she was still sitting half in his lap, his control of the car was probably precarious at best. Some part of her terrified brain registered that not only was she exhibiting extremely unsafe vehicular behavior, but she was forcing Chris to do so as well. Not much she could do about any of that, however, because there was a veritable nightmare inching closer to her, even with her shoe flying at it. Maybe because her shoe was flying at it. She was probably just pissing it off, which only freaked her out more.
“Pull over!” she squealed.
“There’s no shoulders or anything on this road,” he said, though he was laughing so hard he could barely speak. “Hang on. There’s a spot ahead that might work.”
He gunned it until they reached a section of the road that was wider than the rest, and then stomped on the brakes.
He jumped out, dumping her fully into the driver’s seat, though she kept trying to beat the hell out of the mutant spider on the passenger window. Seriously, she’d known they grew bigger down in the jungle, but that thing was unacceptably large. By the time Chris made it to her side and opened the door, all that was left of it was a couple twitching legs sticking out of a pile of goo.
He glanced at her, then back at it, then burst out laughing again. “Think you got it?”
“Can you still tell it’s a spider?”
“Yeah.”
“Then it’s not dead enough.”

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

Oh, I had so much fun with this one. First of all, Chris owns an Airbnb type company, so I spent a lot of time on those kinds of websites sooo many fun places to rent! Then, Chris and Charley travel to Costa Rica, Fiji, and Spain. So I spent way more time than I probably needed to researching everything from activities you can do there to locations to hotel interiors to cars and planes. I always love the research part but this book was especially fun!

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

That I’ve written, probably Brooks lol That someone else has written.Jamie Fraser from Outlander or Rane Falconer from The Wild Swan series.

What inspired you to write romance?

I’ve always really loved romance. For as long as I can remember. I started reading Victoria Holt’s gothic romances when I was around 12 I think. But even before that, when reading books like Little House on the Prairie and the Narnia series and Wrinkle in Time, my favorite bits were anything that hinted of romance. So when I started writing it was just natural to write romance. In fact, I’ve tried writing stories without romance. Doesn’t work. My characters always start falling in love. I just can’t help it LOL

Lightning Round Questions

What are you reading right now? Or what do you have on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Right now, I’m reading one of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood books. I’m quite a few behind so I’m trying to catch up

What Hogwarts House would the Sorting Hat place you in?

Hufflepuff! (according to my account on Pottermore lol)

Twitter or Facebook?

Hmmm depends on my mood but probably FB just because that’s how I keep in touch with all my out of state fam.

Favorite Superhero?

Wonder Woman

Favorite TV show?

Ohhh this is one of those where you really gotta narrow it down, genre-wise LOL Castle is one of my all time faves.

Sweet or Salty?

Sweet

Any Phobias?

Spiders!! OMG sooo freaked out by those creepy things (which reminds me the spider scene that I included here is one of the ones inspired by my real life!) Also, heights. And I’m claustrophobic. Add to that a serious hatred of math, and you’ll get the reason why I decided not to try and be an astronaut like I wanted when I was a kid lol

Song you can’t get enough of right now?

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Senorita. And I’m on a big Beatles kick after watching Yesterday.

Fall/winter 2019 Movie you’re most looking forward to?

Zombieland 2, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Jumanji: The Next Level are all top of the list. Also, Last Christmas and the new Charlie’s Angels look good. And Frozen II. I’m really horrible at picking just one thing LOL

Thank you!!

About Kira:
USA Today bestselling author Kira Archer lives in Pennsylvania with her hubs and two kids. And 3 ridiculous cats. She's one of those people who laughs at inappropriate moments (especially overly emotional occasions like weddings or funerals), and she has an insanely overactive imagination which is great when she's writing but not so great when she's shutting all the lights off at night and then has to go up the stairs. She has a PhD in Procrastination (or would if there was such a thing and there soooo should be because she's seriously at expert level here). And if she's not writing, she's reading, or thinking about reading or writing. And running her kids around because they are busy and she's the taxi driver. She also writes historical romances as Michelle McLean.
