I fell in love with the slayer sent to destroy me.

Morgan Taylor-Jackson can't wait for high school to end. In six months she leaves for UCLA and says goodbye to La Jolla, California and her parents' messy divorce. But when Morgan is bitten by a four-year-old boy, she becomes infected with a mysterious condition. Fever, insomnia, and a new bustline are only the beginning; Morgan morphs from nerd to bombshell.

As far as Van Xander is concerned, all vampires are evil, even the ones who reject human sacrifice and call themselves Puritans. When Helsing Incorporated sends Van to La Jolla to investigate the local coven, Morgan is his prime target. Pretending to be interested in her, Van asks Morgan out and puts her through a series of tests to determine her killer nature.

Morgan is thrilled to be dating a hot guy like Van and falls for him hard. As Van strings Morgan along, he grows increasingly guilty. Morgan is kind, compassionate, and a gooey romantic. Just as Van's mind begins to change, evil forces threaten everything. When prom night arrives, there are only two ways out of the ballroom: death or immortality.
Now on to the scenes!

Top 4 favorite scenes and why.

Scene #1 Morgan is bitten.
“Hello, Morgan.” Daris wore footed pajamas with dinosaurs on them.
“Um, hi.”
“I want to tell you a secret.”
“Great.” I tried to walk past Daris and into the hallway, but he blocked my path. Do preschoolers not understand about privacy?
“Bend down so I can tell you my secret.” Daris cupped his hands around his mouth like he was going to whisper something.
“Okay.” I scrunched down so I’d be at his level.
Chomp! Razor-sharp teeth sank into my neck.

Louise: I love this scene because of the joke about preschoolers not understanding about privacy. When my nieces were little, they used to try to follow me into the bathroom all the time. Nobody wants an audience when they pee!

Scene #2 Van and his sister Cassandra squabble.
“What I want to know,” said Cassandra, “is where was Morgan yesterday afternoon when you were in Carlsbad slaying the undead?”
“I don’t know,” I answered. “I haven’t had time to check my phone yet. We just got home twenty minutes ago.”
“At least you used that time to shower.” Cassandra made a dramatic display of sniffing the air around me. “Irish Spring. I approve.”
“You’re the one who stocks the soap. I use whatever’s available.”
“When you remember to use soap.”
“I don’t have time for you to annoy me.” I tossed her my phone. “Check up on Morgan while I go brush my teeth.”
“Another gold star for personal hygiene!” Cassandra called after me.

Louise: Van is a nineteen-year-old slayer and Cassandra is his fifteen-year-old sister who keeps him in line. I love the brother and sister scenes because Van and Cassandra crack jokes at the other person's expense but are also extremely loyal to one another. In BITE ME Van knows that he can count on Cassandra to keep him organized, and in SLAY ME, book three of The Puritan Coven, Cassandra runs into romantic trouble and Van comes to her rescue.

Scene #3 Morgan and Grandma Mimi go bra shopping.
Grandma Mimi tugged at the baby pink tank top I was trying on and tsk-tsked. “It’s like you developed overnight.”
There in the fluorescent light of the Nordstrom dressing room, I looked paler than milk. “Do we have to talk about this?”
“I blame all that soy your mother feeds you. It’s doing wacky things to your breast development. We need to get you properly fitted for new bras.” She poked her head out of the dressing room and called for an attendant. “My granddaughter needs her boobs measured.”

Louise:  This scene makes me laugh because every girl who has ever gone bra shopping for the first time probably remembers being equally mortified.

Scene #4 Promageddon.
I surveyed the chaos around me. Bodies littered the ballroom floor. The survivors crowded in the corner, next to the entrance, cornered by a woman in white.
I twisted the vampire’s neck and felt relief when I heard the bones break. But no sooner had I slain this vamp than another monster lumbered toward me.
Armageddon or Promageddon? This was going to be a long night.

Louise: I don't want to giveaway spoilers, but I've been clear all along that BITE ME ends with a spectacular Promageddon scene. It's like the movie CARRIE, but funny. I had loads of fun writing it, even though some of my favorite characters met an untimely demise.
