Praise for the Red Zone series: "Imaginative, totally preposterous and I absolutely loved every word!" - Marta, Goodreads

In a future where corporations and nanotech implants run the world, Mace Armstrong is in the wrong place at the wrong time... Literally.

The mission is simple: find a way into CommTECH’s state-of-the-art compound, bug the lead scientist of their bio-engineering team before they release an implant that will kill millions, get out without anyone knowing he’s there. For an ex-army ranger, even one out of his element by a century, it should be a walk in the park. Right?

Wrong.

Because Mace isn’t the only one who breaks into the secure facility. With the building overrun with terrorists, he has to find a way out before he compromises himself and the entire Red Zone team to the enemy.

But there’s no leaving without the woman who inadvertently helped him get into the building in the first place: Keiko Sato, CommTECH’s press secretary. She’s brilliant, beautiful, and knows how to hold a grudge. Against him. She has no idea what secrets he and his team are harboring, or that she’s calling to the animal that’s been locked inside of him for a century.

Even as she argues with him about everything, Mace is determined to protect her. He got her into this mess, and he owes it to her to get her out of it.

Whether she wants him to or not.

Each book in the Red Zone series is STANDALONE:

Interview:
Hey Janet!! First I want to say welcome to Two Chicks on Books I’m glad you could stop by for a chat! RED AWAKENING sounds AWESOME and I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Thank you for having me here, Jaime! 😊

For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about the RED AWAKENING and the characters?

Red Awakening is Die Hard, with romance, and a shifter-twist!

It’s got a building full of terrorists, a hot couple who annoy and attract each other at the same time, and a hero who can’t afford to get swept up in any arrests because his DNA would go on record. Considering his genetics have been fused with an animal, he’d turn into a science experiment for any government that got their hands on him. The book is a race against time, as Mace and Keiko try to get out of building alive, before the terrorists or the government get their hands on them.

How many more books are planned for the series?

Millions! Seriously. My head is FULL of ideas!

Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life?

Keiko is loosely based on one of my sisters, who is tiny, hilarious, smart and has a violent streak a mile wide!

Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite?

I LOVE Mace! He’s huge, often unintentionally politically incorrect, but has a deeply personal need to protect the women around him, especially Keiko. It’s a need that often gets him into trouble like finding himself stuck in a building full of terrorists because he couldn’t run without Keiko. Or getting his ass kicked in a fight with a female terrorist because he won’t hit backMace is a complete teddy bear of a man if you get past his grumpy assed attitude!

I also loved writing the twin bad guys in the book. 😊

And my least favorite had to be Miriam Shepherd. She’s so freaking evil!!

What are your favorite passages/scenes in RED AWAKENING?

There are so many!! I love the scene where Keiko finds out about Mace’s animal for the first time and starts ranting and throwing mugs at his head. That was fun. 😊 And I also love the scene where the stresses of the night eventually hit Keiko and she goes into shock, forcing Mace to rely on his animal for something good to tell her to get her out of it. Mace has had a rough life, and there just aren’t that many good stories in it. But the way he cares for Keiko in that scene melts my heart every time I read it.

What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

I did a LOT of research for this book! It’s set a hundred years in the future, where the world has split into two over the use of implanted tech. Because of that I spent a lot of time researching things like RFID implants that let you scan your hand to access your bank account, or computer lenses that let you scroll the internet with a blink. That sort of thing. Also, the main characters are a bunch of former US Army Rangers who were caught in the blast of an experimental weapon and instead of dying, wake up a hundred years later, genetically changed. Each person is joined with a different animal. The animal lives on their skin as a tattoo, but can separate from the human body and function alongside them. The human has attributes from the animal they’re joined with, so I spent a lot of time researching the animal in this book. I won’t tell you what it is, because that will ruin the surprise! I also went to Houston on a visit and toured the areas that I wanted to use in the book although, I adapt them slightly because the book is set in the future. Like I said, theres a lot of research behind this story and series. And I loved doing it!

Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

I have a few! 😊 I love Lucas Hunter and Kaleb Krycheck from Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling books, and Zacarias De La Cruz from Dark Predator and Gator Fontenot from Night Game, both by Christine Feehan. But, if I had to pick one, it would probably be Gatorno, Lucasmaybe Zacarias? Yeah, I cant pick!

What inspired you to write Paranormal/sci fi romance?

I love reading these books, and my favorite authors weren’t writing fast enough for me! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next Nalini Singh Psy/Changeling book, or the next Christine Feehan Ghostwalker book, so I wrote my own version to keep me busy while they wrote theirs!

  1. what does it take to be a successful author ? I would say the first steps to success is to get high quality reviews for the book from influential readers. I would suggest https://usabookreviewers.com/christmas-gift to attract the best readers in your genre to read and review your book.
