Blog Tour- DANCE OF THE RED DEATH by Bethany Griffin and a Giveaway!

Hey y’all! I have an awesome music post for you today! Bethany Griffin author of the amazing Masque of The Red Death and its sequel Dance of The Red Death has stopped by and I love her song choices! They are dark and some are haunting and we have very similar tastes in music. Ooh also there’s an awesome giveaway so check below and enter!

On to the awesome post and of course there will be YouTube videos!

I think mostly with this sort of book, that the playlist is about the mood for me, so the explanations aren't huge. I've added a favorite line from each song.

Dance of the Red Death playlist

Machine Gun- Portishead If I could only have one song that represents this book, this would be it. It's both pensive and aggressive, and perfect for Araby, in my opinion.

if only I could see
You turn myself to me
and recognise the poison in my heart

Plainsong- The Cure This is the song that captures the mood of the world of Masque of the Red Death the best for me. Also, I love the lyrics. These are all of the lyrics.

"I think it's dark and it looks like rain" you said
"and the wind is blowing like it's the end of the
World" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
Cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
A second.
"I think I'm old and I'm in pain" you said
"and it's all running out like it's the end of the
World" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
Cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
A second

Sometimes you make me feel like I'm living at
The edge of the world like I'm living at the edge
Of the world "it's just the way I smile" you said

The Beginning Is the End is the Beginning- Smashing Pumpkins This one also makes me think of the world and the hopelessness of it.

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Something I Can Never Have- Nine Inch Nails- The emotion in this song always speaks to me (there's a lovely pared down version that's amazing, though I also love the original, and it's perfect for this world because it's about yearning, and about things you can't have).  http://vimeo.com/61676920 (One of Jaime's All Time Favorite Songs and Albums btw)

I still recall the taste of your tears.
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears.
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore.
Scraping through my head 'till I don't want to sleep anymore.

Fear- Sarah McLachlan This is the song that most reminds me of Will and Araby.
but I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
here in this lonely place
tangled up in our embrace
there's nothing I'd like
better than to fall

Possession- Sarah McLachlan This is a love song that isn't really a love song. I love the line about tears. I actually just love this song

Through this world I've stumbled
So many times betrayed,
Trying to find an honest word,
To find the truth enslaved,
Oh you speak to me in riddles and
You speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath,
Your words keep me alive

Roads- Portishead Roads is Araby's song as she finds herself and her strength.
Ohh, can't anybody see
We've got a war to fight
Never found our way
Regardless of what they say

Under the Milkyway Tonight - The Church This song reminds me of Araby in the beginning of the story, when she's very much searching for something. In fact, she's searching throughout both books.

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty
Sound of their breath fades with the light
I think about the loveless fascination
Under the Milky Way tonight

The Day the World Went Away- Nine Inch Nails this is my Prince Prospero song.

I'd listen to the words he'd say
but in his voice I heard decay
the plastic face forced to portray
all the insides left cold and gray
there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away

Thanks so much for sharing Bethany!!! I had to post all of the videos because I love these songs so much !!!!!

Haven’t heard about Dance of The Red Death? Check it out!

Bethany Griffin continues the journey of Araby Worth in Dance of the Red Death—the sequel to her teen novel Masque of the Red Death.

In Dance of the Red Death, Araby’s world is in shambles—betrayal, death, disease, and evil forces surround her. She has no one to trust. But she finds herself and discovers that she will fight for the people she loves, and for her city.

Her revenge will take place at the menacing masked ball, though it could destroy her and everyone she loves…or it could turn her into a hero.

With a nod to Edgar Allan Poe, Bethany Griffin concludes her tragic and mysterious Red Death series with a heroine that young adult readers will never forget.

  4. My very favorite thing written by Poe has always been "Eldorado". As a child (I was a weird child) it used to make me want to try to find the city of cold and run into the "shadow/shade" because I thought he's be fun to hang out with. As an adult (or so they say that I am) I find it sad and creepy and down right incredible. I just love it. Also, for the record, I really don't want to find the "shadow/shade" anymore and am more than happy to let someone else have all the gold if they wish to find the city! I'm content to stick to staying home reading!

Aside from that, I think anything Poe wrote was pretty much brilliant. "The Premature Burial", "The Oval Portrait", "The Masque of the Red Death", and "The Tell-Tale Heart" (which was the first one I read way back in the day) are all favorites as well.

Thanks for the chance to enter and I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
