tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

I loved Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi but, I will admit that with the twist at the end I was a little afraid of where she might be taking the sequel. Was it going to be more like X-Men? Was it going to lose its beautiful lyrical style? Were there going to be more strike-throughs? What would happen to this beautiful relationship that Juliette and Adam had formed? And most importantly what happened to Warner? Because yes people I am Team Warner and damned proud of it!

Tahereh took my worries and quickly put them at ease. Dare I say Unravel Me was better than Shatter Me? I think I will! Where Shatter was brilliant Unravel dazzled! It was another beautifully written story that had me screaming, pulling my hair, swooning, crying (bawling actually), and left me absolutely speechless!

I won’t go into much detail as to where the story goes because I don’t want to be yelled at for posting spoilers. I actually got yelled at on twitter for posting page numbers! Yes just page numbers people not even what was going on! Let me just say we meet more people with unique gifts some are pretty damned cool. Also there are some really cool twists to the story that left me saying “No Way!”. We also get more of our favorite characters; don’t worry Team Adam people there’s plenty of him in this book! We also get to know Kenji better and I absolutely fell in love with his charismatic smile, quick wit, and snark. If Warner didn’t have my heart completely Kenji would. I will say Juliette’s adjustment to being around people left her kind of whiny and standoffish but, that is only in the first part of the book. And my Warner *sighs*, my Warner he is so amazing! You get to see a more human side; and yes people I know that were adamant Warner haters who have read Unravel now love him too! Don’t believe me? Read the book when it comes out!

I chose a couple passages that I loved each for different reasons……

Adam and Juliette:

Adam isn’t looking at me anymore but he’s not letting go, either. I lean forward and leave a light kiss on his heart. He finally meets my eyes. Offers me a smile, pained smile.

“I love you,” I tell him, quietly, so only he can hear me.

He exhales a short, uneven breath. Whispers, “You have no idea,” and pulls himself away. Pivots on one heel. Heads out the door.

My heart is beating in my throat.

The girls are staring at me. Concerned.

Sonya is about to speak, but then.

a switch

a click

a flicker

and the lights are out.

Warner (sighs) and Juliette:

“Do you know,” he says, closing the cover of the journal only to lay his hand on top of it. Protecting it. Staring at it. “I couldn’t sleep for days after I read that entry. I kept wanting to know which people were chasing you down the street, who it was you were running from. I wanted to find them,” he says, so softly “and I wanted to rip their limbs off, one by one. I wanted to murder them in ways that would horrify you to hear.”

I’m shaking now, whispering, “Please give that back to me.”

He touches the tips of his fingers to his lips. Tilts his head back, just a little. Smiles a strange unhappy smile. Says, “You must know how sorry I am. That I”---he swallows---“That I kissed you like that. I confess I had no idea you would shoot me for it.”

  1. Um, at the start of this review, I was all like, WHAAAA? Is you CRAY? Who would be a Warner fan so early on when he is a nutball douchecanoe? Though, I must admit I've been curious about his character...

By the end of this review? I fanned myself. At the thought of WARNER. Heaven save me.

  6. I'm a Team Adam, diehard. But then I read Destroy Me and then Unravel Me and I found myself, um, confused. Tahereh Mafi does herself well when she writes this one, because I found myself questioning everything I had believed, everything I had felt, everything I wanted from this series. So now I'm re-reading Shatter Me again to remind me why I'm so diehard Team Adam (it's working).

Incredible second book in a series. LOVED it. Cannot wait to see where she goes with the end of the series. AND Mafi is on my instant-read/buy probably forever.
