The final book in the New York Times bestselling trilogy, perfect for fans of Battlestar Gallactica and Prometheus!

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn't the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed's former passengers aren't alone on this planet. And if they're going to stay, they'll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been for nothing.

FUELED BY LIES.
RULED BY CHAOS.
ALMOST HOME.

OMG y’all this book was amazeballs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the best in the series in my opinion it’s another case of the author saving the best for last! Beth has wrapped up Amy and Elder’s story with such a beautiful but heart stopping end that I will definitely be reading this one over and over again!

We finally get to see the planet and its crazy dangerous and there will be deaths peeps… just be forewarned. Beth doesn't hold back on who she will kill. I cried more than once in this story. Also we get to meet so many new people; the frozen become unfrozen; and we get to meet Amy’s parents I loved her mom and hated her dad until about halfway through the book lol. And Beth introduces us to a new guy whom I didn't like at all even though he’s totally hot! I will not say more and leave it up to you to judge him. There’s not much more I can say about Shades without spoiling a lot of the story but believe me people you need to read this book go get it when it comes out!!!!!!

I chose a passage from the beginning of the book because I loved it and I didn't want to be too spoilery.

I spent three months trapped, the walls of the spaceship more cage than home. But at least I was alive. Who knows what the planet will hold, what new dangers we will face?

All I have now are questions, fear, and a big blue and green and white planet looking up at me.

We have to go. We have to face the world below. It will be better to die quickly with only the taste of freedom on our lips thank to live long lives pretending not to see the walls that imprison us.

I tell myself, it will be worth it. No matter what price is paid, it will be enough to escape Godspeed. I tell myself these things, and I try to believe them.

Lights blink up at me from the control panel. Elder and I sit directly in front of it, a huge metal lever set into the floor between us. The main Bridge—the big room designed to control the entire ship—had six chairs and dozens of control panels, but this smaller bridge has only two of each. I hope it’s enough. I hope we’re enough.

I reach up—toward the window with the shining planet beyond or toward the control panel, I don’t know which—and Elder grabs my shaking hand.

“We can do this,” he says, no doubt in his voice.

“We have to,” I say.

“Together?”

I nod.

Both of our fingers press the INITIATE LAUNCH button.

  3. I only read the first paragraph of your review since I haven't read the series yet. I have the first two and want to get to them soon. The first paragraph has me convinced I need to read this series ASAP though.

  4. Great review! I hope Amy doesn't get on my nerves this time round because she did in the sequel (mostly because she was a bit selfish), though she has proven herself brave at times too within the entire series. But I do love my epilogues in a final book . . . so that's a bit of a downer.
