Jaime's Review of Fever by Lauren Destefano

From Goodreads.
Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

I wasn’t going to write a review for Fever because I didn’t think I could come up with the right words as to how I was feeling about this book. I’m still not sure about it. I loved Wither a lot and had high hopes for the second book in the series. It’s not that I didn’t like it, because I did but not as much as I hoped. I will read the third book though because I need to see this one to the end. And I have really high hopes for the end!

Because I couldn’t find the right words about how I felt about this one Andye from Reading Teen  understood we chatted about this one a bit and where I couldn’t find the words she did. So with Andye’s permission I’m linking you to her review at Reading Teen she explained how she felt about this second book much better than I ever could have. So check out her review here.

I know a lot of you loved this one so I’m sorry it was just ok for me L I really did love the cover though!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! I like the cover too, now that I read it. It makes a lot of sense. It's one of my favorite things about the book! They were very detailed with it!

  2. I've read a few reviews about Fever and a couple were positive but many were mixed. I loved Wither, but maybe I'll wait to read this when book three comes out and then read all three back-to-back-to-back to get the full experience. I'm still so tempted to read it now though.

I read Andye's review too and it's super helpful. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts Jaime!

    1. It's not that I didn't like it because I did but it just bothered me. It was way too slow!

  4. I have to say, I really like that even though you weren't sure how you felt about the book, that you put so much thought into the review...and ensured your thoughts were communicated correctly (even if you had to use an outside review). More than some bloggers would do. Love your site! :)

    1. Thanks Victoria! Yeah this is the first time I've had to do this. Usually I can find words.
