Jaime's Review of Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

From Goodreads.
Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

Jaime’s review…..

I’ll openly admit this was one of those books like Divergent that I had friends pushing me to read. Every day they were like “Have you started yet? Why not?” and my best reasoning was I have other books I need to read and review first I’ll get to it soon. Well finally one afternoon Mindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads and Rachel from Fiktshun told Patricia how awesome it was so she started bugging me to read it so, I finally did. Let me tell you I should have not have held onto this ARC for so long without reading it!!!!

This book was fantastic, brilliant, amazeballs, awesomesauce, and every other word that you can think of for great! The lyrical prose was beautifully written, the story flowed like a song flying off the pages! I literally dreamt about this book for the past three nights while reading it! I also cried quite a bit but, I laughed and smiled as well. I am hopelessly in love with Adam and very jealous of Juliette ;)

Tahereh Mafi has created a masterpiece with writing like this…..

“I’m looking and not looking at his face, I’m licked by a million flames and swallowing a million more. He’s staring at like me like he’s never seen me before. I want to wash my soul in the bottomless blue of his eyes.”

Swoons right? The writing is that lyrical and beautiful throughout the entire book!

Now we’re expecting a really bad guy for a villain but I actually found him to be extremely interesting and, I didn’t hate him. You’re probably thinking how? Trust me when you read the book I think you’ll understand.

If you like a good Dystopian read with a hint of fantasy and paranormal Shatter Me is the perfect book for you! I am patiently (NOT AT ALL) waiting for the next book. So when Shatter Me arrives at bookstores November 15th buy this book!!!!! I am not asking, I’m telling this book must be read!

You can pre order Shatter Me from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

  1. I knew you would love it. Being forced into a book always takes awhile to get settled in, but "amazeballs" is right! Haha! :P

I did sympathize with the villain. I am very concerned about that storyline in book two. His story was so sad, too. But unlike Juliette, he didn't side with good and kindness and all that yummy stuff. I can't WAIT for book two. I hope they have ARCs at one of the conferences I'm attending.

I may not tackle anyone for it. But I will stay up all night, on line, outside the door just to get a copy.

I love your review and that teaser paragraph you picked was seriously awesome!

  2. Thanks Rachel! The yeah I really love that paragraph. I can't say much about the villain here because I don't want to spoil to much but I really do get him and why he is the way he is.

Lol I wil be in line right there with you for an ARC of book 2 if they have them because I need more now!

  12. Awesome review Jaime! I'm so glad I listened to you. I have to admit, I did become jealous of Juliette as well, and I'm anxious to see what happens next. By the way, your review is pure awesomeness. I hate when reviewers take things so serious, because if I had listened to the two I read before talking to you, I probably wouldn't have read it. :-)
