The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

What Was Your Inspiration for Red Queen?
I'd always wanted to write a novel, but never thought I could actually finish one. So during my senior year of college, I was interning at a studio lot and reading a lot of the self-published bestsellers to try and find something for my boss to adapt. At that point, I'd finished multiple screenplays and thought, hmm, maybe I'm finally at the point where I'm good enough and mentally tough enough to do this. This was sort of the seed and I got to thinking on writing a novel. A few weeks later, I was struck by the thought and image that became central to Red Queen. A young girl fighting for her life, about to be executed, who entirely seems unremarkable and defeated. Then she flips the switch on her executioner, can control lightning, and she absolutely destroys him. This picture, a teenage girl who is an absolute force of nature, was the so-called spark for Red Queen. The central idea - a world of humans controlled by superhumans - came out of this image, and everything built around it. It's really fun to look back on now and realize everything came out of that single daydream I emailed to myself back in 2012.
