Jaime's Review of Balthazar by Claudia Gray

From Goodreads.
Haunted by memories from his first days as a vampire, Balthazar has spent hundreds of years alone—without allies, without love. When he emerges from his isolation to help Skye Tierney, a human girl who once attended Evernight Academy, Balthazar has no idea how dangerous it will be. Skye’s psychic powers have caught the attention of Redgrave, the cruel master vampire responsible for murdering Balthazar and his family four centuries ago. Having learned of Skye’s powers and the remarkable effect her blood has on vampires, he plans to use her for his own evil purposes. As they stand together to fight the evil vampire, Balthazar realizes his lonely world could finally be changed by Skye...just as Redgrave realizes that he can destroy Balthazar once and for all by taking her for his own.

In a story filled with forbidden love and dark suspense, one of the most beloved characters in Claudia Gray’s New York Times bestselling Evernight series will captivate readers with his battle to overcome his past and follow his heart.

Jaime’s review….

First thing I said when I found out about this book was “Heck Yes!” Balthazar was my favorite character from the Evernight Books. Second thing? I hope it’s a series! Well I’m not sure now if it will be one but I can still hope because she left the ending open with plenty of potential for one. J

When reading Balthazar I thought I’d miss Bianca and Lucas in the story but they were both there for small parts and, I really wished a few of the other characters I loved from the Evernight books would be as well but alas they weren’t. I loved getting to know Skye better though she’s so much more than I thought she would be and she’s pretty kick ass on her own. I enjoyed her spunk and willingness to do whatever she needed to do to stay safe and beat the bad vampires.

The best part of this book though was all the things Balthazar I fell in love with this guy even more than I thought I could. I loved seeing glimpses into his past which made him what he was in the present. I absolutely loved his protectiveness over Skye and him falling in love with her was awesome! He tried to fight it to protect her but she didn’t make it easy and I found myself saying “You go girl!” in a few different places. Skye knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to go for it. I loved Balthazar’s internal struggles and it was quite funny when he got flustered he made me giggle.

The story itself was really engrossing I couldn’t wait to see what would happen with this Redgrave fellow and what Balthazar’s crazy sister Charity had up her sleeve. I can honestly say after what she did to Lucas I wanted her dead but Balty being well, Balty he couldn’t kill his damaged sister. Redgrave is seriously one smart bad guy he’s calculating and cruel but, he’s also gorgeous and suave which makes him even more dangerous.

So back to why I think this should be a series I love Balthazar and I could read many more books about him! We barely scraped the surface on his past and what makes him tick and like I said Claudia left enough on an opening at the end there. Also by the end of the book we knew what Skye was and what she could do but, we didn’t get to explore it much and if there’s not a strictly Balthazar series I would love to see one with the both of them. There are so many places it could go!

For my teaser passage I decided to use one with Skye where she’s talking to an old friend from Evernight because I thought this was freaking hilarious J

“Nothing else has happened.”

“He kissed you!”

“Once. And I kissed him once. That’s it.”

You need to jump his bones.”

“Clementine!”

“You know you do!”

“No,” Skye said, trying to sound more firm than she felt.”Chasing a guy like that only gets you hurt. Any guy who really cares about you should want to be with you. Once he knows how you feel, He should step up.”

“And you feel like Balthazar’s not stepping up?”

Balthazar comes out March 6th so pre-order it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or The Book Depository.

Make sure to add it to your Goodreads lists and make sure to check out Claudia’s website!

Adventures in Books at the Thrift Store

I’m a big fan of thrift stores, especially when looking for books for kids and household items. Sometimes I get really lucky and find tons of stuff but other times I walk away empty handed. Now you may ask yourself why I would be sharing this with you.

Well yesterday I went to a thrift store and of course I headed straight to the book stacks first. As I started looking I saw several books that caught my attention. I ended up picking up eight books for the bargain price of $9.50.  I was totally stoked. I mean I can’t usually buy one book for under $10 let alone eight of them.

What did I pick up you say? Well here’s the list:

For me: Eyes of Crow by Jeri Smith-Ready; Vampire Kisses: The Beginning by Ellen Schreiber; Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens and Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz

For my 9-year old: Fudgemania, Superfudge and Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing all by Judy Blume

For my teen daughter: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Now that last one is where the adventure comes in, not so much that it happened while at the store itself but what happened later when I gave it to my daughter. My daughter is a fan of Contemporary YA Fiction so when I saw Anna and the French Kiss I knew I had to get it for her. I’ve heard great things about it and the companion book, Lola and the Boy next door.  But anyway, on to what happened; I didn’t flip thru any of the books while at the store. (In hindsight, I really need to do that.) So I pick up my daughter from school and head on over to my son’s elementary school to wait for him to get out 15 minutes later. While waiting I pull out my stash of books and hand her the Anna book.

As she starts flipping through it the first thing she notices is that a whole chapter has been taped up with that magic tape that is used for gift-wrapping. We both think that’s kinda weird but, whatever. I help her get the tape off and discover that it’s chapter fourteen. We both flip thru chapter fourteen to see if there are any pages missing but there aren’t, which is good. However, we notice something else that’s…I don’t even know how to put it…strange?! Weird?! Makes you go, hmmm?! What is it you ask? Well someone has taken the time to white-out several words and in some cases, whole passages. Of course this makes us wonder what could be so bad about these words that are whited out? And it's not just chapter fourteen but now she notices that it happens throughout the whole book.

My daughter starts trying to scrape off some of the white-out without tearing the paper because of course we want to see what is soooo terrible. Something must be terrible because someone took the time to white-out so much of the book. To our surprise and frankly our giggles and then right out laughter and indignation it is words such as bollocks, ass, god, blimey, the hell, omg, oh my god. It’s not so much that we’re saying people should or shouldn’t use these words but we found it completely odd that someone would buy a book called Anna and the FRENCH KISS and then go censor it. I mean if you can’t handle some of these words WHY, OH WHY are you reading a book with this type of title? It just doesn’t makes sense to me at all.

Of course now I’m going to have to buy this book at a regular book store because my daughter really wants to read the “uncensored” version. So what the “white-out junkie” really accomplished was us buying Anna and the French Kiss again. Muahahahaha.

Oh and obviously I had to call Jaime right away and let her know what we’d found and she, too found it so funny that she suggested I write a post about it.

We'd love to know what you all think of this? Let us know in the comments :)

Here's a cover of Anna and the French Kiss and a synopsis from the inside flap:

Anna is happy in Atlanta. She has a loyal best friend and a crush on her coworker at the movie theater, who is just starting to return her affection. So she's not too pleased when her father decides to send her to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year. But despite not speaking a word of French, Anna meets some cool new friends, including the handsome Étienne St. Clair, who quickly becomes her best friend. Unfortunately he's taken--and Anna might be, too.

Will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss she's been waiting for?

You want to buy your own copy of Anna and the French Kiss you can do so at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Book Depository or ask for it at your local bookstore.

UPDATE: For those of you wondering...here's a sample page of what the inside of this book looks like:

Jaime's Review of Buried by Linda Joy Singleton

From Goodreads.
In a new school and determined to keep her secrets from being discovered, Thorn finds a mysterious locket that leads to a shocking discovery—the unmarked grave of a newborn baby. Surrounded by new friends she barely knows, as well as the school’s famous former student, a smoking-hot musician named Phillipe, Thorn must investigate to find out if one of them is a murderer.

Jaime’s review….

Confession I’ve had this book for a long time and have read it twice. I’ve been dying for it to get closer to release day so I could post my review!

Linda Joy Singleton is a favorite author of mine not only because she’s local but, because she writes great books! Most of them are set in Northern California so I am very familiar with the places! Her Seer series is one of my absolute favorites and is where we originally meet Thorn. I was so glad to hear that she was going to get her own story because I really felt that she needed one.

In Buried I will admit that I missed the Northern California locations as she set this one in Nevada and I also missed some of the characters from the Seer books. I get it though this was Thorn’s book so it had to be new. There were scenes where a couple of my faves showed up in a way that didn’t steal the scene from Thorn but it was still cool they were there. I also enjoy how Linda focused this book on Thorn and not Thorn and a boy. Don’t get me wrong there’s a boy but it’s not all about him which I found refreshing! I really loved this story Thorn’s psychometry  or “finding ability” is something I find fascinating I don’t know if  I could deal with it I mean she finds a baby’s grave ugh poor thing (yes both Thorn and the baby!) There’s a character whom is called the Grin Reaper who I adored he is awesome! This book was so much fun to read and I really can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Linda write faster!  ;) ;)

Buried comes out March 8th so make sure to pre-order your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or the Book Depository and if you want to meet Thorn before that get the Seer books I highly recommend them!!!! Also make sure to check out Linda’s website for information about all of her books!

Make sure to add Buried to your Goodreads lists and also the Seer Series too!

Thanks to my friend Linda Joy Singleton and Flux books for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book!

Jaime's Review of Cinder by Marissa Meyer

From Goodreads.

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Jaime’s review….

I love Fairy Tales and I love modern retelling of Fairy Tales so when I heard what Cinder was all about I just knew I had to get my hands on a copy! Marissa Meyer wrote a beautiful tale once I picked it up I had a hard time putting it down to eat or sleep.

It was really funny though I kept imagining Drew Barrymore as Cinder I know some of you are probably like “whaa?” but if you’ve seen Ever After  you might get it. Drew’s character Danielle was strong and independent just like Cinder trust me go watch the movie.

I loved the setting of New Beijing and that Cinder was a cyborg I just thought that was sooo flipping cool! Not to mention there were humanoid people inhabiting the moon called Lunars that had bioelectric abilities like sharks! I also loved the part about the plague because it made the story different not just the normal prince meets Cinderella falls in love, she goes to the ball, blah, blah, blah, and then they live happily ever after. Actually the ending of this story left me going “huh?” shit I need book 2 now!!!!!!

There’s no fairy godmother but there is a doctor who is really cool and a total crack up and an android Iko who the story wouldn’t have been the same without! Oh and Prince Kai I really loved him I didn’t fall in love with him; he’s completely for Cinder but, he was so sweet and funny and self depreciating it was hard not to like him. I also loved that there’s a twist so we have more to look forward to and Scarlett (Book 2) can’t get here soon enough. I’m meeting Marissa on Thursday I’m hoping for some spoilers ;)

Ok the teaser scene this time is right after Cinder gets asked to the ball and don’t say “Gah that’s spoilery!” because we all know Cinderella gets asked to the ball ;)

“I-I’m sorry,” she stammered. “Thank you—I…Thank you, your Highness. But I must respectfully decline.”

He blinked. His eyes fell as he processed her response. Then he lifted his chin and attempted a grin that was almost painfully dejected. “No it’s all right. I understand.”

Dr. Erland leaned back against his desk. “My sincerest condolences, Your Highness. In more ways than one, it seems.”

Cinder cast him a frosty glare, but he focused his attention on cleaning his spectacles again.

Kai scratched behind his neck. “It was nice to see you again, Linh-mei.”

She flinched at the return of the formality and made to speak, her voice catching at apologies, explanations, but the prince didn’t wait for them. The door was already shutting behind him.

She snapped her jaw shut, thoughts sparking in her head. Dr. Erland clucked his tongue, and
Cinder prepared to rail at him with those budding explanations, but he turned away before she could and paced back to his seat.

“What a shame you cannot blush, Miss Linh.”

Cinder is in stores now so go buy a copy or order it from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or The Book Depository.

Add it to your Goodreads lists and also make sure o check out Marissa’s website.

Jaime's Review of Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

From Goodreads.
I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school,
push,
push,
push,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.
Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.

Jaime’s review….

During my week off from review books Delirium was on my list and the minute I picked it up I was sucked into this amazing dystopian world where love is outlawed. When I first met Lena she completely broke my heart how could a girl not want to love? But then we both met Alex and we both fell hard for the boy with hair like an auburn crown and I didn’t want this love story to ever end! Then it did and it killed me I cried and was completely stunned with what happened.

Skip forward to Pandemonium I was so mad with Lauren for what happened at the end of Delirium that I didn’t want to like this book. I really didn’t and when I heard some non spoilery stuff online like there being another boy I did not want to fall for him at all. I wanted to stay true to Alex. As the story unfolded though I found it hard not to care about this new boy Julian I fought my emotions hard I could not be falling for another one could I? The same thing Lena was thinking.

What I loved about this book was like in Delirium we jumped between Then and Now. Then being The Wilds after Lena’s escape from Portland and Now being set in New York where she is part of the Resistance working hard to make love legal again. I really enjoyed the Ten parts because we get to meet some really cool people I know a lot of the reviews say they hated Raven at first but I didn’t I got her and why she acted the way she did. I also grew really fond of Hunter and Tack. In the Now is where I found myself fighting and losing my battle not to fall in love with Julian who in all rights I should have hated he was part of the bad people, the ones who want to do away with love, but something happens and well I’ll just say wow! Oh and then the ending??? I kinda saw it coming for a few reasons but all I can say is holy crap that blew my mind and book 3 now please! The wait is going to suck for sure.

I had a really hard time picking a quote or scene from this one there’s so much spoilery but I think I found a good one….

“You were calling for Alex,” Julian says, and I feel a small spasm of pain in my stomach. More silence, then: “It was him, wasn’t it? He’s the one who got you sick?”

“What does it matter?” I say. I lie down again.

“So what happened to him?” Julian asks.

“He died,” I say shortly, because that is what Julian wants to hear. I picture a tall tower, smooth-sided, stretching all the way to the sky. There are stairs cut in the side of the tower, winding up and up. I take the first step into the coolness and shade.

“How?” Julian asks. “Because of the deliria?” I know if I say yes he’ll feel good. See, he’ll think. We’re right. We’ve been right all this time. Let people die, so we can be right.

“You,” I say. “Your people.”

Julian sucks in a quick breath. When he speaks again, his voice is softer. “You said you never had nightmares.”

I wall myself up inside. From the tower, the people on the ground are no more than ants, specks, punctuation marks: easily smudged out.

“I’m an Invalid,” I say. “We lie.”

Ok so I hope that didn’t tease you too much because you don’t have that long to wait

Pandemonium comes out February 28th so pre-order it on Amazon
Barnes & Noble, and The Book Depository.

If you haven’t make sure to add Pandemonium to your Goodreads lists and check out Lauren’s website!

Jaime's Review of A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford

From Goodreads.
Eden won the battle-she saved her true love from the darkest evil. But the war has only just begun. With secrets swirling around her, powerful allies unraveling, and life-and death-as she knows it eroding, Eden and those she loves tread dangerous ground. Can she trust anyone? Will her unearthly powers be her salvation or her downfall? A sweeping, dark, and sexy paranormal romance that will haunt readers with an inventive mythology and a cinematic New York City filled with shadows and longing.

Jaime’s review….

You all have no idea how hard this book is going to be to review. Everything about it could be viewed as spoilery. But I’m going to try my hardest.

A Touch Morbid was AWESOME!!!!!! One thing I think you all should know is this book is not Eden and Az centric there are multiple POV’s and most of my favorites were parts that had Luke in them. Yeah I know he’s the bad guy but I can’t help it he has completely captured my heart. Other parts of the book that I really liked were from Jarrod’s POV he’s really growing on me and I’m starting to love him too!

There were so many twists and turns in this story and so many lies and secrets! No I’m not going to say whom or what you must read the book when it comes out! All I will say is that I said a few curse words while reading A Touch Morbid and my jaw hit the floor multiple times. Leah has brought us new characters that are pretty cool also and the people we know and love have some major issues to work through.

What I love about Leah and her writing is she’s not afraid to pull punches. I’m absolutely dreading and dying to read book 3 of this series because I need to see where this twisted tale leads! She had me guessing some things till the very end and now that those questions have been answered she’s left us with more!

I really had a hard time finding a quote from Morbid that wasn’t too spoilery but I just couldn’t resist this part it’s a scene with Luke and he’s talking to someone I’m not going to say who you’ll just have to guess ;)

He trailed his fingers down her face and then further. They lingered against the swell of her breast, the lace of her bustier. “Because you tempt me. You demand I fight for your affections instead of taking what I please.” He dropped his hand. “You tell me no. You say stop. And I listen.” He said the last words like a curse, anger bleeding through, each word rougher than the last.

Luke tilted his head, his neck tense, cracking with a snap. He rolled his shoulders.

“You’re a silly little dead girl.” He glared at her, his tone harsh. “You should mean nothing to me.” He grabbed her chin, forced her to meet his eyes. “And yet I covet you more than anything else on this Earth.”

See he’s HOT!!!!! Literally ;)

A Touch Morbid comes out February 28th so if you want a book that’s wicked and morbidly awesome pre-order it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the Book Depository!

Also make sure to follow Leah on Twitter she has some really cool blog.tv chats and check out her website!

A huge thank you to Harper Teen for the Advanced Readers Copy!

Jaime's Review of Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey

From Goodreads.
Wilde Island is in an uproar after the recent death of its king. The uneasy pact between dragons, fairies, and humans is fraying, and a bloodthirsty witch hunter with a hidden agenda whips villages into frenzies with wild accusations. Tess, a blacksmith’s daughter from a tiny hamlet near the mysterious Dragonswood, finds herself caught in the crosshairs of fate when she is accused of witchery and has to flee for her life along with her two best friends.

Not even Tess’s power to see the future can help the girls as they set off on their desperate journey, but she keeps having visions of a man wielding a sword. And when she finally meets him, Tess has no idea how to handle the magnetic attraction she feels for him, or the elusive call she hears from the heart of the Dragonswood.

In this epic romance, an ancient prophecy comes true in a way neither dragon, fairy, nor human would have predicted.

Jaime’s review….

When I read the synopsis for Dragonswood a few months back I really wanted to read this book and I absolutely loved the cover! I thought fairies, dragons, and humans in a story set in for lack of a better word olden times sounded extremely interesting. Well my friends it was! I really liked this book I’m not going to say love or gush about it though. I didn’t feel a strong connection with Dragonswood like I have with some other books.

The story was written very well and the details were extremely good I could imagine the spider webs in the trees and see the scales on the dragons. I also found the story to be pretty predictable but that didn’t stop me from reading. I didn’t figure everything out. I really enjoyed the strength of the MC Tess in a world where women were considered second class citizens only worth what their looks could gain their father’s in money or power; she stood out as an individual who wanted her own life her own way. That did get her into trouble but it also made her grow as a person. The love interest known as Garth Huntsman was very charming and sweet I didn’t fall head over heels for him and swoon like I do for the boys in other books. Oh well can’t fall for them all right?

My absolute favorite part of this story was the dragons! I wish there would have been more parts with them in the book! I loved their wisdom and their humor and how even they liked the humans they still saw them as hairless worms. Lord Kahlil the ancient dragon was definitely my favorite!

To end I chose a scene that I thought was cute and funny, it’s where Tess is trying to figure out if she can trust Garth Huntsman or not and she has climbed a tree to think.

“Tess?” Garth’s head was thrown back to peer up at me in the branches.”Why scurry up a tree? The stew will be ready soon. Won’t you come down?”

I gripped my knife. Why had I trusted him? I knew better than to trust a man. “You’re angry with me.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Don’t lie; I know anger when I see it.” He looked so small standing far below. Like a grounded blackbird.

Seagull trotted up to him and whinnied. Garth patted her neck. “Now see, you have Seagull worried.”

“Tell her I am happy up here in the tree.”

“She is happy up there in the tree, Seagull.”

I smiled a little. “Tell her I am tired of sudden anger, of punching fists, black eyes, cuts, and bruises.”

“She is tired of sudden anger, fists—“

“Punching fists,” I corrected.

“Of punching fists, black eyes, cuts, and bruises.”
Seagull huffed and nodded. Garth and I laughed.

“Will you come down now and have some dinner?”

“You go ahead and eat. You must be famished.” I felt gnawing hunger but would not admit it. The man did not obey. Instead he climbed. My breath caught. What was he doing?

Garth positioned himself on a thick branch across from me and slightly lower so his head was not quite as high as mine.

“This is my tree,” I said.

He poked a pinecone. “So you own it?”

The rest of this scene had me cracking up J

Dragonswood is out in stores now so if you want to read a good story with dragons and fairies I suggest you pick it up!

You can get it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or The Book Depository. And make sure to add it to your Goodreads lists!

Jaime's Review of Destiny's Fire by Trisha Wolfe

From Goodreads.
It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.

As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.

Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

Jaime’s review….

What a fun book! Debut Trisha Wolfe has given us a world full of the paranormal with a good amount of steampunk thrown in!

This world of Haven Falls she created was so lifelike. I could see the steamships hovering in the bay emanating danger. I could imagine myself dancing in Cog’s seeing the steam and charge coming off of the stage. Also after reading Trisha’s playlist which she did for us on the blog tour you can find that post HERE. I could hear Devon’s band playing a Nine Inch Nails-ish type of set. I absolutely love a book where music plays an important part.

The main character Dez was instantly likable she wasn’t one of those needy, always needing saving type of girls that annoy me. She was strong and could kick some major butt including the bigger guys around her. There were two love interests in this story Jace and Reese. I found myself completely drawn to Reese from the moment I met him I mean c’mon he has violet eyes how cool is that? I did like Jace but more in a best friend kind of way. I also really loved Jace’s brother Nick and his sister Lana they were a major part of the story and it definitely wouldn’t have been the same without them.

The story itself was very original I have never read one about shifters like this they were descendants of the shifter that protected the Pharaoh’s from Egypt; which was awesome because I love Egyptian history and myth. That being said I would have loved a little bit more of an explanation about that I’m hoping it’ll come in book 2. Back to the story though I loved all the twists and turns Trisha threw at us and she kept me up late reading I had to find out what was going to happen!

So if you want a book that’s different from the same stuff you’ve been reading I suggest checking out Destiny’s Fire you will love it and you will be dying to get your hands on book 2 like I am!

You can get Destiny’s Fire at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or at Omnific Publishing’s website!

And don’t forget we’re giving away an ebook of Destiny’s Fire go to this post to enter.

Make sure to add Destiny’s Fire to your goodreads lists and check out Trisha’s website!

Hey thanks for stopping by to check out our stop on the Destiny’s Fire blog tour! This is an awesome book with elements of paranormal and steampunk and Jaime absolutely loved it! Debut author Trisha Wolfe has a hit on her hands! And speaking of hits music is an important process in many authors writing and Trisha is here today to share her Playlist for Destiny’s Fire! Before that though here’s a little bit about Trisha and Destiny’s Fire.

About the author: Trisha Wolfe is the author of the YA Steampunk/Paranormal Romance DESTINY'S FIRE. Her published short stories have appeared in YA literary journals and Fantasy magazines. UNVEILED is her first novelette and part of a Dystopian series releasing TBA. She’s written four books in the past two years, and is currently working on the sequel to DF and a new project. She’s represented by Lauren Hammond of ADA Management.

On to the playlist!
Music is a huge part of my life. When I’m not writing, I have my ear buds plugged in. It’s the only thing that gets me through the mundane things I have to do through the day.
I listened to a lot of bands while I wrote DESTINY’S FIRE. Some that related to the story well, others were just for fun because I loved them. I’ve picked out a few songs that I think really grasp some of the emotions and scenes in the book. But I was disappointed that I couldn’t find a band that fit what I had in my mind for the futuristic Industrial sound of Devon’s band, Current. So I guess that’s just going to be left of to the readers to hear the music in their heads, which might be better anyway.

Dez goes through a range of emotions during her journey. I listened to a lot of Florence and the Machine while I was writing for her, and I feel “Blinding” is her perfect song. It’s HER song.

Flyleaf had a few songs I was debating on using here. They do an AMAZING cover of “Something I Can Never Have” by Nine Inch Nails, and I really wanted to work that in somehow. But I went with “Again” because, well, have you seen the video? Not only are the lyrics great for Dez’s struggle, but damn. That video couldn’t be more perfect with the flames.

If I HAD to choose a sound for Devon’s band, I would probably throw together a mix, combining Stabbing Westward, Nine Inch Nails, and maybe even Tool and Skinny Puppy. And okay, as long as we’re meshing bands together, toss some Rage Against the Machine in there, too. There, that’s a close sound LOL. But, I listened to this song a bunch for Jace. I pictured him in the club watching Dez dance. Especially the last line of the song works great for him.

There were many more bands I jammed out to while writing, but I have to shout out one of my all-time favorites. I would not get through a day without listening to The Misfits. I must have listened to “Come Back” a million times during this story. It’s the song I envision when I think of Reese near the end of the story.  Link for those who want to check out this amazing band: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHVfLHUQa-0&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL1318E1C4F3A48766)

Thanks for taking a trip into my strange brain. Hope you enjoyed the music!
