Interview with Debut Author Jus Accardo & Swag Giveaway!

Thank you, Jus, for joining us today here at Two Chicks on Books. We are so happy to that you were able to stop by since we know that you are busy working on the second book in the Denazen Series, Toxic. We would love to get to know you and the characters a bit more so here’s are few questions that we came up with.

Two Chicks: We are really excited about your new book! How did you come up with the idea for TOUCH?

Jus: It was really just a spur of the moment thing. I was on line waiting to get coffee and BOOM. The idea just kinda tromped through my brain.

Two Chicks: Some of the best ideas happen that way
TOUCH is awesome in that it dealt with some very awesome abilities. If you were a “Six”, which ability would you want to have?

Jus: I'd totally be able to talk to animals. I have 3 dogs (and a bear--sort of).  I'd love to know what's going on in their heads :)

Two Chicks: That’s an awesome ability. We are both dogs lovers, too. What is your ideal setting when writing? Is there anything that you MUST have in order to write?

Jus: I can work anywhere, but I usually work at the dining room table. It's where I’m most comfortable (plus only a few feet from the fridge (cheese) and coffee pot! As for the must have, see coffee and cheese. Oh, and fluffy socks are a plus.

Two Chicks: That’s so awesome. We have more things in common, we two chicks also love cheese although Jaime is more of a tea drinker while Patricia is more of a coffee drinker. Do you listen to music when you write and if so what are some of your favorite artists?

Jus: I do. I have a playlist for every book and all my characters. Even some scenes get specific songs. I listen to everything from Disturbed and Powerman 500, to Adele and Beethoven. Really, anything with a killer beat or something to say will get my attention.

Two Chicks: Ah, music is so great! We love that your tastes are so eclectic a lot like ours. How many books will there be in the series?

Jus: Right now there are 3 books and 2 novellas in the series.

Two Chicks: So in other words, more goodness to look forward to. We can’t wait!
Kale is absolutely gorgeous (just thought we’d throw that in) and his innocence makes him somehow more approachable. How is Kale adjusting to the new world around him?

I think he's adjusting. It's a lot to take in, but he's doing really well. In TOXIC, we'll see him getting more familiar with things. It's a slow process. He's not going to learn everything overnight. I think the biggest problem he has is that he doesn't understand  why people say and do the things they do. So much of Kale's world is black and white. He doesn't see the need for lies or slang.

By the time book 3 rolls around...well...Kale is going to be...*ahem* Anyway... ;)

Two Chicks: Oh, my! That’s evil to leaves us that way. LOL Dez is one kick-ass chick! Besides pissing off her dad, what are some of Dez’s favorite things to do?

Jus: Well, Dez loves coffee (my kinda girl!). She's a skateboarder and she really does love the rush. She's really like most seventeen year old girls. She loves to hang with her friends, listen to music and dance, and once in awhile, stir up a little trouble. Okay, with Dez it might be a little more frequent than once in awhile, but...

Two Chicks: She’s our kinda girl, too. Dez is so full of life and energy it’s intoxicating in a good way. Dax was one of our favorite characters in TOUCH, will we be seeing more of him in TOXIC?

Jus: I'm SO so happy to hear you say this! Dax was originally going to be a walk on/walk off character, but I fell in love with him. In TOXIC, there will be more Dax. In fact, you'll get to see a different, very surprising side of him. It's something I don't think anyone will see coming.

Two Chicks: We can’t wait to read TOXIC. We’re sure that it will be great. Thank you so much for chatting with us today. We look forward to reading more of your books and wish you the very best! You are always welcome to stop by and chat with us again.

A bit more about Jus:
Jus Accardo is the author of YA paranormal romance and urban fantasy fiction. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald. Her first book, Touch, is due out in November 2011 from Entangled Publishing. She is represented by Kevan Lyon of
Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

About Touch:
"When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Except there's something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she'll turn to dust if he touches her. It's not until Dez's father shows up wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there's more to this boy - and her father's "law firm" - than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation - an organization devoted to collecting "special" kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons - his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. Dez and Kale team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they're caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect."

Cold Blood Blog Tour

Hey Everyone! Today is our stop on the Cold Blood Blog Tour we are very excited to have an excerpt from chapter one on the blog today! Before we post that though here's the synopsis for the second book in the Dirty Blood series available now!

Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected. For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they're kicking your butt in the process. Which happens more often than not for the freshman. Lucky for them, my presence has just stolen the spotlight, and they get a break from the daily joys of hazing. At least I've got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De'Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he's destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn't going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point's evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself, how did I end up here?(less)
Now on to the excerpt...

I awoke to the tires bumping over the lip of the asphalt; Grandma was pulling into a Burger King. We were off the highway, though there wasn't much to see. A lonely looking Burger King sat beside an Exxon. Both were surrounded by trees in all directions. The only interruption was the two lane road we had turned off of. State route something-or-other.
Grandma parked the Hummer beside a faded blue Camry and cut the engine. She glanced back and smiled when she saw that I was awake.
"Pit stop," Grandma said. "You gotta go?"
I shook my head, still a little dazed from the nap, and rubbed my eyes. "No, I'm good. What time is it?"
"Around seven. You want coffee?"
I nodded. "Please." The reality hit me that I was closer to Wood Point than home, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep now.
My mom hopped out and turned back to me. "I'll bring you a coffee and a breakfast sandwich," she said.
"Back in a flash," Grandma called.
Their doors slammed shut at the same time, and I watched them disappear into the building. When they were gone, I reached over and rummaged inside my backpack for my cell phone. I was hoping my mother wouldn't notice it was gone until it was too late to get it back from me, like after she’d left me at school. She must’ve known by now that I’d swiped it back since she tried confiscating it, but she hadn’t said anything yet.
I powered it on and waited for the screen to light up with any new calls. A new text flashed first, and I clicked it open, hoping it was Wes. I still wanted to find something to say to make him feel better, but it was from George.
Did u get my note? I'll miss u. Call me.
Crap. I'd almost forgotten about the song lyrics he'd sent through Angela. It was a sweet gesture, but I wasn't sure what to say to him. “Thanks” didn't seem like enough. He'd be expecting more than that. I just didn't have more than that to say right now. I missed his friendship, but I didn't really know how to get that back when he was still so focused on a relationship. I closed the text. I'd figure something out later.
The screen beeped with a new voice mail. I punched the call button and listened. The voice that reached my ears was not at all the one I'd been expecting. I froze.
"Tara, darling. I heard the good news. You survived, Jack survived; we all survived. Oh wait, not all of us. Dear old Dad didn't make it. Pity. I guess the burden of world domination falls to me. Or should I say, to us. I'm sure by now there are search parties out looking for me. Wes, Cord, Derek, Jack. Maybe not Jack. No matter. They won't find me. But don't worry; you and I aren't finished yet. We’re connected in a way that no one else can touch. And I'll find you, when I'm ready. I have a project to complete first, but I’ll see you soon. Ciao."

Jaime's Review of Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

From Goodreads.
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Jaime’s review….

So you’re probably wondering why Patricia and I are posting back to back reviews; we normally don’t but when we both had the chance to read an ARC of  Clockwork Prince we jumped at the chance! The awesome Amy from the YA Sisterhood had received one because she was Jace’s advocate in the Hero’s Tournament on their page and being that Amy is a total sweetheart she wanted to share it with us! Thanks Amy!!!!! <333333

On to the review.

My heart actually hurts with thoughts of this book not because it was bad but, because it was absolutely brilliant, heart stopping, tears streaming down my cheeks, frustrated screaming, jumping with joy brilliant!!!!! This series is by far a favorite of mine and don’t me mad all you TMI fans and Team Jace people out there but, The Infernal Devices series in my opinion is sooo much better and I am completely and 100% Team Will! He utterly and completely shatters my heart and turns me into a pile of goo. I do love Jem also, sweet compassionate Jem but not with the fiery passion that Will has set ablaze in my heart and bones.

The story itself is beautifully written and there is violence, betrayals, new characters that bring even more to the fray, passion, and some very sexy, steamy, fans oneself scenes! I know most of you have probably seen the teaser trailer of the Balcony Scene by now but holy hell that teaser as steamy as it was doesn’t do it justice! I literally had flushed cheeks and was biting my lip reading it! If you haven’t seen the trailer I’ll post it below or if you just wanted a little reminder ;) I am so happy that I read this book and so sad at the same time seeing as the wait for the next one is going to be pure torture! There will be no ARC’s of the third book and next winter seems soo far away! Regardless of the wait I loved this book and will read again and again until next winter!

Normally I choose a quote to close that has some passion or fire and there’s plenty in this book but this time I chose to post a poem that Will wrote for Tessa it brilliantly captures my feelings and I needed a bit of his humor after reading this one. This is in a book he wanted her to read.

“Caliph Vathek and his dark horde
Are bound for hell, you won’t be bored!
Your faith in me will be restored-
Unless this token you find untoward
And my poor gift you have ignored.
-Will”

Here’s the Balcony Scene clip.

When Clockwork Prince arrives in stores go buy this book or better yet pre order it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble where they have an exclusive edition with a letter from Will to Tessa, or the Book Depository so it’ll be at your door waiting for you! Also check HERE for a deleted scene from Clockwork Prince and Cassie's website for all sorts of cool stuff :)

Jaime's Review of Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Exiled from her comfortable home in the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. In Reverie, she spent time with her friends roaming virtual environments called Realms. But in The Death Shop, even the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage. He’s also her only hope for survival.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry sees Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he also needs Aria’s help; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, they come together reluctantly, and embark on a journey challenged as much by their prejudices as by cannibals and wolves. Their unlikely alliance will forever change the fate of all who live UNDER THE NEVER SKY.

The first book in a captivating trilogy, Veronica Rossi’s enthralling debut sweeps you into an unforgettable adventure.

Jaime’s review….

This story was a fantastic mix of dystopia and fantasy!  The world that Veronica wrote about is something that is both something that is of our world and something that is not but quite possibly could be someday. Another thing I absolutely loved about this book was it was told from two POV’s so we got to feel what Aria and Perry were both thinking and feeling.

The lands described in the story are vivid I could almost feel the wind pick up and the air charge with energy when an aether storm came, and feel the sensation of rocks sliding through my fingers. I also felt Perry’s angst and Aria’s suffering and also love emanating off the pages. I could smell violets every time they were mentioned I will not say in what context because it might spoil something and I could hear Aria singing Tosca which is awesome because I love that opera! (Yes Jaime likes opera shhh)

I will admit in the beginning Aria annoyed me a bit. I think it’s because she was kinda whiny but, who wouldn’t be? She lived a sheltered life ,never experiencing anything real she did everything in virtual reality. She did grow and by the end of the story I really liked her! Perry on the other hand, I fell in love with his POV from his first chapter his strength and protectiveness leaked off the pages and into my heart. He had me swooning in the scenes with his nephew Talon whom I loved too what a great kid! There were also other characters that I grew fond of Roar for one I’ll use the description from Aria’s POV.

“Up close, she saw a gleam in Roar’s gaze. He had a prince’s looks but a pirate’s eyes. Roar smiled, an appealing, clever flash. Aria laughed. Definitely more pirate. Roar laughed at her laugh, and she decided on the spot she liked him.”

Ok I like Roar a lot! I even told Veronica that I loved him and she told me he was a heart breaker ;) The other characters I really liked were Marron and Cinder you’ll see why when you read the book. They all play an important part in the story.

I really loved this book and I can’t wait for book 2 which will probably be another nail biting long year. Thanks Harper Teen and Veronica Rossi for sending me an ARC and letting me be a part of this journey! Under the Never Sky comes out January 3, 2012 and is available for pre-order so go to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or The Book Depository to grab your copy now! Make sure to check out Veronica’s Blog for news, updates, and even some contests!

Top 10 of 2011

Hello and welcome to........

Top 10: A Week of Looking Back....
                                .........and Looking Forward.

Last year Jessica from Confessions of a Bookaholic and Lisa from A Life Bound By Books posted some Top 10 lists the last week of 2010. For five days they recapped some of their favorite books, covers and characters. They also listed some books they were looking forward to in 2011. This year they thought they'd do it again... just with a twist. They  invited some friends (us) to help co-host things and make an event out of it! Rachel from Fiktshun, us here at Two Chicks on BooksJessica, and Lisa  have all come together to work on making this into something we hope more people will want to join in on and contribute. You're probably wondering what the topics of this years Top 10 lists will be and the dates, right? Well we have all that info for you here....

Monday 12/26 – Top 10 Books I’ve read in 2011

Tuesday 12/27 – Top 10 Book Covers of 2011

Wednesday 12/28 – Top 10 Book Boyfriends in 2011

Thursday 12/29 – Top 10 Characters in 2011 (This can be anything you'd like to make it for characters. You can post your favorite Villains, etc. Just be sure that this post is character based.)

Friday 12/30 – Top 10 Books I’m looking forward to in 2012 (also on this day, we'll each be adding something of a recap of the total number of books read, pages read, etc. This part of the post is optional. Feel free to add any stats you'd like to share with everyone. So, if you'd like to also include some end of year stats, feel free to join us!)

How you do these posts/lists is totally up to you. What books, covers and characters you pick are all your own.

The only rules to follow are posting the topics on the dates we've provided.

Now, we know what you're all thinking. That this will be hard to keep to 10. Some of you might like to break the lists up a bit. Working with a Top 10 for YA books and then a Top 10 for Adult titles. Feel free to add honorable mentions if you're also having a hard time sticking to 10. However, with the honorable mentions, please try to keep it to a minimum or it kind of defeats the whole purpose of things.

Our main focus of this event is for YOU to join in and share your lists with us all and for everyone to visit each others blogs and see what books have made it on THEIR lists!

The event is simple. Follow the dates and list topics as provided and fill out the linky below. This gives us an idea who will be joining us for the Top 10 week. THEN, be sure to come back to one of our blogs on each of those days and link up your post for that specific day! Just remember, each day will have a linky for THAT Top 10 topic.

At the end of the event we will be picking a winner using Random.org from the people who have posted their lists and added their info to linky for each day. Total number of maximum entries is 6. Telling us you are joining in on the event in today's linky is your first entry. Posting your top 10 each day with the correct topic on the correct day, THEN coming back to add your link to the linky for that day gives you another entry. Additional Giveaway details will be provided soon, so keep checking back to find out what we'll be giving away!

NOTE: this is the SAME Linky on each of the Co-Hosts Blogs, so please only enter your Name, Blog Name and URL once. Thanks!

Be sure to take the button provided for the event and display it on your blog and link it back to this post so anyone who wants to find out more info about the event easily knows how to find us.

We hope everyone who reads this will be as excited for this event as we are and we can't wait to check out all of your lists!

Jaime's Review of Destined by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa's House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow.

But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness? Find out what’s destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.

Jaime’s review….
I will freely admit I was one of those people that after Awakened I was sooooo angry and frustrated with this series and especially with  Zoey and Neferet ( I mean honestly that woman should’ve been stopped by now right?) that I was going to break up with the HON series. I actually refused to buy Destined because of my anger with it but then something funny happened I actually won a contest! I enter them all the time and I never win and yet I won Destined so I guess I was destined to read this book!

So after my internal battle about reading this book was over I settled in to read it hoping that this book wouldn’t make me want to throw it across the room like Awakened did. I was pleasantly surprised and by chapter seven where we meet the hot and absolutely legal (yes he’s an adult YAY) Travis I was hooked! Yes Zoey is still annoying but I actually could tolerate her more and I looked forward to Stevie Rae, Rephaim and Lenobia’s POV’s and also we get to see from Shaunee’s POV which was really cool and Aphrodite (who didn’t have her own POV but should) was freaking hilarious as usual this series wouldn’t be what it is without her snark and I love her for it!

The story is really good! I liked the twists that evolved and the ending as Aphrodite so exquisitely said “Holy Shit” was something I had hoped for but never thought would happen! I laughed and cried and had a really hard time putting this one down and now I’m really looking forward to the next House of Night book!

Since I’ve been adding some quotes that I love and I couldn’t pick just one from this book I’m picking two one from the new man in my life Travis and the other from the other boy I <33 Stark J

First the swoon worthy Stark.

“If Zoey’s in it, it’s my fight. And you need to understand I’ll win. Every time so walk away”

Now the southern gentleman and my new love Travis; and he’s talking about a horse peeps so keep your heads out of the gutter!

“Take my girl out. She’ll remind you to breathe and smile. Oh and Lenobia, I’d ‘preciate it if you’d stop callin’ me Mr. Foster.” He tipped his hat to her, added a smile and a long, slow, “If you please, ma’am.”

Ugh I love that man! Ok so anyhoo yes HON pissed me off but now it has won me back 100% and I will definitely be buying the next book!

You can buy Destined at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the BookDepository or your local bookstore. Check out the HON website too there’s cool stuff there!
